I am going through the second playthrough and the differences are very minimal and only a few missions are different. I was wondering whether this is like Nier Automata where the first 2 playthroughs are kinda the same and the third one is pretty different or also the third one is gonna be the same thing with slight differences

Some context before pasting the convo we had literally 1 hour ago. And as usual I felt so powerless and disappointed.

I’m 27 years old, and I haven’t had a good relationship with my father for many years now, basically since I was a teenager. The last time I remember him agreeing to do something with me that didn’t involve me going over to his house, I was 14. We went skiing together.

Ever since then, I’ve always kept trying. I’ve always asked him, “Dad, do you want to do this? Do you want to do that?” He would always promise me we would, and then he never did a fucking thing.

Several times I tried to openly tell him that I missed the relationship we used to have and that I wanted to rebuild it. He would always say all the right things, but never actually do anything about it.

Fourteen is also exactly the age I was when he started another family. From that point on, everything started going wrong for him. He has a severely disabled son who cannot live independently, and now an ex-partner, with whom he has that disabled son and two other children, who makes his life miserable in various ways and treats both him and the children like shit.

I’ve always felt really sorry for him because of all of this, and that’s why I’ve always managed to forgive him and give him yet another chance.

But lately I’m genuinely exhausted. It just seems to keep getting worse.

Whenever he talks to me, he only talks about himself. He never asks me how I’m doing or shows any real interest in what I’m doing with my life. He sends me pictures of himself going out with different women and doing things with women he met two weeks earlier that he hasn’t done with me in ten years.

I don’t give a fuck about your women, and I don’t want to see the fucking pictures of you doing things with them.

I currently live in another city, about four hours away from my family and from him. Last month I went to visit him and he mentioned this move. I told him that I thought I would be coming back around mid-August, although I wasn’t sure, and that if I was back I could help him with it. But he never gave me any specific dates.

Today, this was our conversation (i translated it since english is not my first language):

I’m tired.

Maybe I was impulsive when I told him something that harsh, but I’ve been thinking it for a long time, and during this conversation he genuinely made me so angry that it just came out impulsively. I'm playing on the Steam Deck. After two days, for no apparent reason, the game stopped booting altogether in Gaming Mode. It would only boot in Desktop Mode, which I didn't like because many of the Deck's quality-of-life features are missing there.

I tried reinstalling the game. I'm pretty careful with these things, so I made a backup of my save files, even though I was sure Steam could never fail me... until now. Apparently, this game doesn't save your progress to the cloud. Or actually, it does, since there's a cloud-save check, but it also apparently doesn't. You have to manually upload the save using Ubisoft's proprietary system, which I think is completely absurd.

Reinstalling the game didn't fix the issue, but I eventually managed to solve it by switching to Proton Experimental.

Yesterday, I was on the train and tried booting the game. Well, it turns out you have to be connected to the internet to play because of Ubisoft Connect. Seriously, is it just me, or is that completely ridiculous for a game that doesn't have ANY online functionality? What is even the point?

ALSO, every time I put my Deck into sleep mode with the game open, there's about a 50% chance that the game crashes for some reason.

I mean, what is this? When I buy something on Steam, I expect the full Steam environment. The game is also marked as Deck Verified.

Ubisoft really seems determined to make its ecosystem as frustrating and inconvenient as possible. I honestly have no words for this. The whole situation is completely absurd to me.

I just finished Metro Exodus. I’m going to play the DLCs now, but I wanted to share my first impressions of the games.

The first two games were good, although definitely not among the best games I’ve ever played. The setting was magnificent and every place had an amazing atmosphere, but I found most of the characters a bit bland and underdeveloped, apart from a few exceptions. Pavel, yes, I’m talking about you.

I also didn’t find the story particularly compelling. Most of the time, you’re just following an objective given to you by someone else, then shit happens along the way. That can still be cool, but there wasn’t much character development or many genuinely memorable moments.

Because of that, I really don’t understand why the first two games are so often considered better than Exodus.

Exodus was fucking crazy. The writing improved so much, and almost every character felt compelling and well written. I was worried about the open world because I usually despise games with huge maps, but here it was just the right size and had the perfect amount of content.

The story was also very good.>! I wasn’t a huge fan of the fact that the entire objective of the final chapter was saving Anna because she fell into a fucking bunker, and also conveniently they were developing a miracolous medicine for lung problems, I found that a bit forced.!< But that’s only a small nitpick in an otherwise awesome game.

I understand that the first games are supposed to be more political than personal, but even in that regard I think Exodus did it better. The first game barely scratched the surface of the political conflict, while the second expanded that side of the world considerably, which is one of the reasons I liked it more than the first.

Exodus, however, felt much more original in the way it portrayed its factions and the stories of the different places you visited.

I can understand why some people don’t like the atmosphere of Exodus as much as the first two games, since it did lose some of the classic Metro feeling. I think that mostly comes down to personal preference, though. Exodus might be different from what some people expected, but I still think it is the better game.

The stealth was also so much better. Every area was genuinely fun to approach stealthily, especially compared to the first game, where stealth often felt broken, forced you to follow a very specific path, or simply wasn’t clear enough.

Overall, I would definitely recommend the Metro series to a friend. I didn’t enjoy the first two games nearly as much as Exodus, though.

Metro 2033: 7/10

Obviously, these are just my personal opinions and not an attempt at an objective analysis of the games

I played MGS 1 and 2 a few years back but for time reasons i didn't continue the saga. I'd like to pick it up again but i forgot a lot of the content of MGS1 and 2. Do you suggest any gameplay with lore and story focused commentary or some essays that explains what happened in the first 2 chapters? Thanks

I just finished 2033 and about to start last light redux. What difficulty do you suggest? I am not sure between Hardcore and Ranger (not hardcore). Is Ranger harder or just a different experience? I hate bullet sponge enemies but I also do not want an unfair experience where I die way too easily

I just finished the first game, amazing gam. I played the redux version. The best part of the game for me was the world building, dialogue and narrative. I didn't get into the gameplay as much and the best parts were just exploring the world but i feel like sometimes the encounter felt very long (although i played hardcore which should lower enemies health) and very repetitive, it's the classic formula of that time where you do a section of exploration and there's and arena with a lot of enemies. Are the next games more varied in terms of gameplay? I really want to go on with the story and setting but the shooting didn't really click for me. The Library section would have been interesting if it wasn't bugged as hell.

I've been using Gemini for programming for the last year. It wasn't perfect: it doesn't have an agent that works directly inside the IDE, and it constantly writes useless comments in the code. But damn, it is brutally straightforward with its opinions

I haven't tried Claude yet, but I know it has an agent. Is it any better than ChatGPT in this regard? Is it more like Gemini when it comes to pushing back on bad ideas?

Has anyone tested whether the "All Ears" Great Sage Talent that goes like this:

"Slightly extends Invincibility duration of the first move of all Varied Combos."

also extends the window you can perform a see-through (counter) attack? I love that playstyle and if this was the case it would be huge.
