What's considered "old" for a pig?

Ghost just celebrated his 4th birthday on August 1st, and according to basically every resource ever he's entering his "golden years" or is at the very least middle aged, but I haven't noticed literally ANY signs of aging whatsoever. In fact, this is the healthiest he's ever been!

He got a nasty URI when he was about 6 months old, then he for the past 2 summers he had cheilitis. The first time, the vet said he got a "chemical burn" from a bell pepper because it was "too spicy" and gave him an antibiotic course that was too short and caused it to come back with a vengeance. Since then, he was successfully treated it with a month long course of Baytril (yes, it took that long to recede plus another week of dosing with no symptoms just to be safe), then when it came up when we moved states, treated him again with no issue and a much shorter course (1 week). He's had various skin issues needing quarterly medicated baths, but thankfully the baths are preventative at this point.

Yet despite all that he's gone through, he is still incredibly healthy. After getting his crappy immune system sorted, he was able to actually be chubby for the first time in his entire life this year and his body is in the best condition it's ever been at 4 years old. He zooms, pops, and is super athletic and energetic. He has no teeth issues, gut issues (even with needing frequent antibiotics) or any other issues other than vitiligo on his paw pads.

If I didn't have his pedigree, you could've told me he was a 2 year old pig and I would believe it. But it begs the question, how old IS old for guinea pigs, and does their ancestry have anything to do with it?

I've owned pedigreed show pigs and pet-mill randombred guinea pigs, and cuy, and it seems like the mill pigs and cuy are always worse off. Cuy makes sense since they were bred to breed fast and grow fast and big, and thus have shorter lifespans, but mill pigs always have weird health issues at young ages which has always been bizarre to me. Excluding satins and pigs with excessive line breeding, pedigree pigs seem to be the healthiest overall weirdly enough. Also guinea pig care quality has increased exponentially in the past decade, so it makes me wonder if guinea pig lifespans are actually longer than the typically quoted 5-8 years? Where did your guys pigs come from, what health issues have they had, and and how long did they live? I'm super curious :)

Did I do something wrong?

This was a conversation with my SLPA mentor, we always had a good relationship while I was under her clinical supervision, though I am autistic (which she knows) which makes me wonder if I was unintentionally rude somehow. I need this signature in order to get my license in order to get a job, and am thinking about sending a follow up text, but don't know what to say without worry of further upsetting her :(

Did anyone else have an "unusual" puberty?

I distinctly remember my mom freaking out because I had a full bush in 2nd grade, and in 4th I had started to develop breast buds, but had ZERO other symptoms until 6th grade, where I had 1 period, then had nothing else for 6 months, then I had a horrible, super heavy period then absolutely nothing again for 3 years, when at that point I had blood work done and was diagnosed with PCOS, despite my ovaries looking completely normal on ultrasound. I've been on birth control ever since (started at 14, and am now 23) and horrible withdrawal weeks, with PMDD that almost sent me to inpatient psychiatry for a couple years, until I brought it up again with my doctor and she prescribed continuous birth control at 18. I still take the withdrawal week of pills twice a year just to keep things flowing, but I could just as easily not take it and have no issues.

Ever since I've been on birth control, I grew a MASSIVE rack that nobody in my family has even remotely come close to, and I almost think it could still be growing, I still occasionally have growing pains in my breasts. Nobody else in my family has PCOS or even any symptoms of it, they are all extremely thin and otherwise healthy. I do struggle immensely with my weight and with insulin resistance as measured on my bloodwork, but don't struggle with excessive hair growth. I just have one singular beard hair on my chin I pluck every couple months and maybe a little more peach fuzz than the average woman, although all my body hair is so blonde it's invisible so I really wouldn't be able to tell if it was excessive or not.

In almost all the PCOS stories I've heard, women have a normal puberty then start showing symptoms in their 20s or whe they are trying to start a family, and it makes me feel like a fish out of water. Has anyone else had an experience like mine or should I see if maybe something else is at play?

Opae Ula in Arizona?

I just moved states to Arizona, and I would LOOOOOVE some of these little guys, but how bad of an idea is it to have them shipped given that it's gonna be 100° for the next couple months? Is there anywhere I can purchase them locally? (I am in Tucson) Or would overnight shopping be ok?

Dishwasher not fully removing grease from silicone dishes?

For context, it's a brand new Frigidaire that came with my apartment, but one of the absolute cheapest ones you can get. The cycles are heavy, normal, and 1hr wash, and the only other option it has is a 4hr delay. I don't even think the damn thing sanitizes.

Anyway, I got a big tub of the Walmart brand dishwasher pacs as a housewarming gift and just used the last of them last week. They were ok, but left hard water spots on all my glasses and plates (which are also glass since they're corelle). So I had gotten some Finish pacs to see if they're better. The Finish pacs don't leave water spots, but all my silicone dishes come out greasy as hell unless I use 2 pacs. Even if I wasn't cooking with oil that day, even things like a little bit of ranch or mayo residue greases up my dishes. For context, I have ceramic pans so all my cooking utensils are silicone to preserve the coating, plus a few other silicone odds and ends, so I have at least one silicone item per load. I've tried putting the silicone items in the utensil basket and both on the top and bottom racks and they always come out greasy no matter how they're loaded.

I don't pre rinse anything, but I do make sure larger debris gets scraped off. I also have been using Amazon basics rinse aid since it's dirt cheap, but I kinda get the vibe that I've been getting what I pay for and wanna try a different rinse aid. I also run the water until it gets hot before starting the dishwasher, but I feel like it makes no difference in the wash quality since stuff comes out greasy regardless.

My pipes are also jacked, I need to plug the garbage disposal before running the dishwasher or else it backs into the sink, but If I plug the disposal it drains properly. I already had maintenance here to unclog the pipes, which fixed the kitchen sink as a whole clogging but didn't fix the dishwasher backing into the sink.

I wonder if the two problems are related and if there's any fixes I can do on my own so I don't have to pay the maintenance fees. Also, what else can I do to get the dishwasher to run better?

How can I get established with a provider who will refill my ADHD Meds?

I am from Colorado and am on an already established dose of generic focalin ER, though I take it twice a day because my body just processes stimulants quickly. I had the same issue on Adderall XR before my insurance (aetna) decided to stop covering it.

Anyway, I am trying to find a PCP but everything is booked out until September, and I simply can't go that long without my meds because I depend on it to function on a normal level.

I would need to find someone comfortable prescribing both my ADHD meds and birth control since I am also on birth control that is also on a different schedule (4 packs every 3 months, I don't take the placebo "period" pills) and need to get it refilled as well. If I didn't need to worry about birth control, I would just go directly through psychiatry.

There's plenty of availability to see a nurse practitioner, but would a nurse practitioner be comfortable with writing these prescriptions in a new state even though they are already established? I'm just really having trouble understanding and navigating the medical system on my own and hope someone can point me in the right direction. Thank you!!

No lipase in Persil?

My MIL gifted me a huge jug of arm and hammer for my and my partners new apartment, and after a few washes I realized that stuff sucked absolute balls and was literally creating blue stains on our clothes. My dad is a blue collar dude and swears by Persil, and not wanting to buy another huge jug of BS, I did some research and found out he actually had some elite ball knowledge when it comes to laundry. What sold me was that it (should) have lipase and I always end up with grease stains from clumsily cooking so it seemed like a no brainer, but looking at the jug it's not listed in the ingredients anywhere. Did they remove it?

Are minis more difficult to housebreak than standards?

I am getting a poodle next year, but am really drawn between a mini and a standard. I grew up with both small and large dogs and I want a dog with a bit more substance than my late Chihuahuas and Dachshund, but I also live in a 3rd floor apartment. It is fairly spacious with 2 bedrooms (only one is occupied) and a surprisingly large, enclosed balcony which we would use a FreshPatch or similar setup for potty training and times when it's too hot for the dog to be outside for extended periods, since we are in Arizona.

That being said, literally every small dog I've had was awful to housebreak, and I specifically will never own a dachshund again for that reason. It's also the reason I'm leaning away from toy poodles, because, no matter how you slice it, tiny dogs just have tiny bladders and my apartment is almost entirely carpeted.

With that said, for people with toys, minis and/or standards, which size of dog was easier to housebreak, and would a more mellow standard do well in an apartment with regular enrichment? I would be open to a mini with any energy level as it's easy to exercise and enrich a smaller dog indoors without causing a ruckus. I would love a standard but the logistics are my biggest worry. Also, for poodle owners in Arizona, how do you plan your days so that you can work, enrich and exercise your pup, and avoid the heat? Thank you!!

Starting a job without a license? (Arizona)

So to apply for the license you need ~$300 to cover all the fees and that's money I simply don't have right now having just finished my college degree and moving states. Would I be able to start a job without licensure as long as I have the ability to obtain it without issue?

How should I arrange the awkward living/dining room of my new apartment?

The only requirements are that the couch faces the TV and that there is ample room for a good sized comfy couch, no loveseats/futons etc or accent chairs.

I know you aren't supposed to pre-rinse dishes, but it makes the dishwasher nasty, what am I doing wrong?

So, I've stayed a fair bit with my mother in law who moved into her house 4ish years ago, and they don't pre rinse their dishes. Obviously the big stuff gets scraped off, but the occasional piece of corn or rice might end up in there. On the other hand, my mom is militant about making sure the dishes got rinsed before they went in, and that only a thin layer of sauce or seasoning ended up in there, if even that.

Now my mother in laws dishwasher smells like something died in it, and even with thoroughly cleaning the filter and running some machine cleaners through it, the dishwasher still smells and all the glasses and plates come out smelling funky, and my partner has pulled black slime out of the holes in the sprayer arms before. Mind you, it's less than 5 years old and gets ran as it should otherwise without any abuse.

Now my mom's dishwasher is 9 years old and doesn't have any issues with smell or any dishes smelling funky. We check on the filter sometimes but honestly there's never anything out of the ordinary in it other than a very thin layer of grime. We tried not rinsing the dishes off for a few months after taking advice from a co-worker, and the dishwasher itself started to slightly smell and the dishes were starting to get that distinctive wet dog aroma, so we cleaned the machine switched back to rinsing and there hasn't been any issues.

I've worked at restaurants and they pre rinse dishes before going into the dishwasher, so why wouldn't you do the same for a comparitively way less powerful residential machine? I know it's technically because the detergent needs something to cling to, but it seems counterintuitive. How is food and biofilm and other nastiness not building up inside the sprayer arms? Or do my mom I just have a freakishly strong sense of smell and most people genuinely can't tell the difference as long as the dishes look clean to the naked eye? Or does "don't pre rinse" actually mean "don't pre WASH" and you're actually supposed to get a lot more of the food buildup off the dishes than scraping would do alone, which would require the dishes to be rinsed. Can someone who knows more than me explain?

Just hit the jackpot on marketplace

I am moving out next month and now my kitchen is gonna be decked out in my FAVORITE corelle/pyrex pattern and there's enough of it to host an entire dinner party! 18 big plates and 15 of both other plate sizes and 2 bowl sizes. I know the corelle branded items are dishwasher safe, but what about the pyrex items like the mugs and seasoning containers (I think that's what they are?) No biggie if they aren't but just curious :)

Very tiny stuffed animals sold in pink boxes in the 2000s?

It's driving me nuts because I can't find them anywhere online since I have no idea the brand or manufacturer, but I know they existed. They were these teeny little stuffed animals, like McDonald's toy sized, and they were sold in these pink (with maybe yellow font?), open boxes where the sides were triangular, so you could still touch it and such. The individual boxes were on this larger display with risers and maybe 50 total on the display?. I bought one as a kid at a local toy store circa 2010. The animals were all fantasy colored (pink, purple, yellow, orange etc) as far as I can remember, mine was a hot pink poodle with light pink pom poms, ears, and tail puff. None of them had clothes or any other anthropomorphic features. I don't remember if they were intended to be keychains or if they were just meant to be tiny stuffed animals. If anyone has any leads it would be greatly appreciated!
