I have finally acquired an M5-10 (Kalavirus) vial from the show

Copying this from what I posted in the Facebook group.

After months of back and forth, Terry finally agreed to let go of what might be his last remaining M5-10 vial.

It arrived last week, and I just got a display box for it. I plan to add it to my wall display when I get a chance.

Terry said that all of the vials in his possession are hero props and were used in the show at some point, but the trouble is that the code numbers written on them are all the same. The only visible differences between vials are in the barcode and those differences are very subtle.

And depending on the angle and the lighting, the lines of the barcode can look different.

So, I've been able to rule out a few vials seen in the show, but I have not been able to find one that I am definitively certain is the one I now have.

For now, I'm claiming the one with the red outline in the attached photos. The barcode in that one looks blocky because of the angle of the image blending the lines together. Mine looks the same when viewed like that and the major groupings of lines matches mine.

And I think I see a slight tilt in the end cap of that one, which would match mine since the cap was slightly bent when I got it. (That is actually a piece from a kitchen faucet glued into the plastic cap of the tube.)

Also attached are a couple of other possibilities.

I just finished a rewatch a month or two ago, but I'm thinking of starting another one and looking out for any and all instances of an M5-10 vial showing up on screen to see if I can find a match for mine.

I played D&D (solo) for the first time in over 40 years and it was great

Like many kids at that time, back in the early 80s, my friends and I were big into D&D and other RPGs like Gamma World and a Star Trek RPG that I forget the name of.

I always thought it would be cool to be able to play D&D again, but you know how life gets in the way of having fun, so it never happened.

But recently, I asked r/soloboardgaming for recommendations for "solo D&D in a box" and someone suggested the 5e solo module Death Knight's Squire. It was on sale at the time so I grabbed it and gave it a shot today.

https://site.dmsguild.com/product/220997/DD-Solo-Adventure-The-Death-Knights-Squire

The module calls for a level 2 character, so I rolled up a lvl 2 magic user (wizard?) in D&D Beyond, and then I used the character sheet online and the module adventure booklet PDF on my laptop with the maps printed out.

As I said, it's been a long time since I played D&D, so I had to ask ChatGPT about some of the mechanics, but I got going pretty quick.

The digital adventure book is like a choose your own adventure book, with links to different sections based on your decisions.

It just so happened that I had the right equipment and made the right decisions in the game to make beating the big boss fairly straightforward, but there's still a ton of other content I haven't seen yet so I play to try it again soon with another character.

And I've already picked up the next three adventures in the series also.

Anyway, this won't sound like anything special to most members of this sub, but it was kind of a big deal for me to be able to have an experience that reminded me of the good old days.

New Book-Aware User Flair and Spoiler Protections

Our primary goal for r/SiloSeries is to make this a welcoming place for everyone who enjoys the show, whether you have read the books, are currently reading them, or have never opened one.

At the same time, protecting show-only viewers from book spoilers is one of the biggest and most time-consuming responsibilities of the mod team. Even a small hint, confirmation, denial, or suspiciously accurate “theory” can reveal more than the person posting it may realize.

We are making a change that we believe will help us protect show-only discussions while still allowing book readers to participate throughout the community.

Introducing the Book-Aware flair

Anyone who submits a post or leaves a comment in a thread marked BOOK SPOILERS & SHOW SPOILERS will automatically receive the permanent 📖 Book-Aware 📖 user flair.

The Book-Aware flair will replace any user flair the account previously had. Once assigned, it will remain in place.

This is not a punishment or a mark of wrongdoing. Being a book reader should be a badge of honor. The books are the reason this world and this show exist, and book readers are an important part of this community.

The flair simply tells other users and the mod team that the account has participated in discussions where book spoilers are allowed and may therefore have knowledge beyond what has been revealed in the television series.

What the flair does and does not mean

Being Book-Aware does not mean that everything a user says comes from the books.

The show has already changed, expanded, combined, and reinterpreted many elements of the source material. A Book-Aware user can still have genuine theories, make incorrect predictions, misunderstand clues, or be surprised by where the show goes next.

The flair is context, not proof.

However, that context can help the mod team evaluate comments in Show-Only discussions. When a Book-Aware user posts an extremely specific “theory,” hints that a character or detail will become important, confirms or dismisses another viewer’s speculation, or otherwise appears to be drawing on unaired information, the flair will help us determine whether the comment requires closer review.

Book-Aware users are still welcome to participate in Show-Only threads. They must simply participate as though the books do not exist. That means no book-based hints, comparisons, confirmations, denials, leading questions, suggestive reactions, or theories informed by future book events.

This is the first change we are making as part of a broader effort to improve spoiler protections. We may introduce additional updates as we see how the new system works and identify other ways to make discussions safer and more enjoyable.

We are doing this because we want r/SiloSeries to be the best community it can be for everyone who loves the show. That includes longtime book readers, new readers, and viewers who want to experience every reveal for the first time on screen.

Official Release: "Relic #1175: The Mystery of the Pez" authored by Robert Sims

https://books.apple.com/us/book/silo/id6783494786

Adapted from a handwritten journal, this is the first-ever account of Silo 18’s history. Its author, Robert Sims, served as head of Judicial Security under Mayor Bernard Holland and was responsible for securing red-level relics that some feared could incite unrest within the community. Sims held this position when Juliette Nichols, an engineer (or “Mechanical”) from the lowest levels of the silo, returned after going outside and disappearing over a hill.

Unbeknownst to anyone, including his wife Camille — who eventually took over as Mayor — Sims kept a record of his investigation into Relic #1175, a child’s toy with mysterious connections to Juliette and her murdered co-worker. Sims’ candid and illegal account contains many explosive revelations about the silo’s history and leadership.

Looking for games with hit points, armor class, weapon and armor equipment, d20 battles, etc.

I have very little experience with board games in general, but I've been playing a lot of Archwynd recently, both solo (with my own variant rules) and co-op. I like how it has the familiar D&D features that I remember from when I was a kid.

I have my eye on Underquest, but I haven't researched it that much yet. And I have a copy of Gloomhaven Buttons & Bugs on the way.

And I know there are actual D&D board games, which I'll be looking into.

What other games come to mind that include HP, AC, d20s, traps, equipment, etc?

I'm looking for something not super complex, up to about 60 minutes playing time, knowing that I'd turn that into two hours.

And the smaller the physical footprint the better. I usually play at Starbucks and those tables are like 24" circles.

Thanks in advance.

Using Google Drive app on a Mac. One subfolder does not appear in Finder, while other updates in that same top-level folder show normally.

It's been a couple of weeks now. I've rebooted a few times. The subfolder that I created in Google Drive from one Mac, and which is visible in Google Drive online, refuses to show up in Finder on another Mac.

Other updates to that same top-level folder show up as normal.

I guess I'll uninstall and reinstall Google Drive on that Mac, but I forget if that has the potential to cause any issues with synced folders and such.

Any other ideas of what might be going on?

How do I disconnect an email account from the external Send Email action in Rules?

I'm trying to set up the ability to send emails from my Outlook account via a rule. I could not authenticate it on my account, so someone from my IT department logged in to their admin account at the authentication prompt.

The feature seems to work now, but it says the emails will be sent from the IT user account. I tried different projects, clearing cookies, restarting app and browser, and it's still tied to that account.

How can I clear that setting so I can authenticate on my own account?

Thanks

Can I move a task and associated subtasks based on a rule fired by a subtask?

I am using a form to create tasks, and a rule to add 3 sub-approvals and 2 more subtasks.

I have another rule that says "When approval status changes" and "Check if task contains..." then "Move task to section...".

It fires, but it's only moving that particular sub-approval item to the new section.

(Or actually, it's copying that sub-approval to the new section and I can still see it in the original task also.)

Is that how "move task to section..." rules are supposed to work on subtasks? How do I get it to move the entire group of task and associated sub-items all at once?

So what are your favorite active PBBGs?

I play several PBBGs, but I'm always looking for new ones. There are tons of idle options, and I've tried most of them, but I'm pretty set on idle games already with Milky Way Idle and Melvor Idle 2 beta filling that slot for me.

On the more active side of things, I'm playing Farm RPG and Titan Conquest daily.

But I'm still looking for other active games to try out. Something that I can play for 5 minutes or 5 hours whenever I want to, without having to wait for timers, energy recharge, or idle tasks to complete.

I'm trying Roguelite MMO RPG for now, and there is a lot to do, but I'm not sure it will keep my attention. I'm also trying Dragon Swords 2, but I'm not thrilled about the daily energy cap system.

Fallen London would be another contender if it didn't have an energy system also.

Anyone know if Isekai Guardians is more active than idle? I think I have beta access for that one, too.

Unless I can find anything else, it's looking like I might go back to Norroth as my main active game. I just hope the new version took care of some of the inventory issues that I had with the previous version.

Nullspire is also one I plan to take another look at.

But what about you guys? What are your favorite active PBBGs? Free or paid is fine; I'm looking for all suggestions.

Thanks.

Any advice for approving the Asana for Outlook Email app?

To be clear, I am not referring to the Asana for Outlook integration in Outlook itself. I'm referring to the feature where you can use Rules on projects to send Outlook emails.

Our IT folks said they couldn't find Asana for Outlook Email in Microsoft Entra.

Anyone get it working in your system?

Anyone have any tips for sequential approvals and notifications?

We are just starting out in Asana and I'm trying to set up an approval flow process. It starts off with a form submission, then goes to approver 1, then approver 2, then approver 3, then done.

I have the automation set up to create the 3 approval subtasks with their blocking dependencies when the form is submitted and the task is created.

But what I'm trying to figure out is the best way to notify the next approver only when it's their turn.

If I assign the people when the subtask approvals are created at submission, will it notify them even if their approval task is blocked?

For now, I'm thinking have them turn off the Task Added notification for that project, and then @ ing them when they are the next approver.

Is there a better way to do it?

Thanks

It's my fault, but I still have to vent - VBTV has horrible customer service

I subscribed to a recurring annual subscription last year. I used it during VNL and then forgot about it.

I never received any renewal reminder notifications or confirmation until I saw the charge come through on my credit card app.

I emailed them that day explaining that I had not received a reminder and that I did not intend to renew and would like a refund for the charge from that day.

When I've had similar experiences with other services, they've have always been gracious and allowed me to cancel.

But the VBTV rep just pointed me to their terms and conditions that says that subscriptions are non-refundable, and said I could not get a refund. He did cancel my account, but it won't take effect until next year.

They are likely entirely in their rights to deny my request, and it was absolutely my fault for not cancelling sooner.

But still, that is not the right way to treat your customers. I definitely will not be resubscribing at any point in the future after this.

Update: It turns out that the state I live in has a law that applies to situations like this. Annual renewals are required to be proceeded by a notification 30-60 days before renewal with information about how to cancel. I gave that information to the support rep, and I'll see how they respond.

Can you scroll webpages with the ball on an Elecom Huge?

I used to be big into trackballs, but it's been several years since I've used one. I just ordered an Elecom Huge.

I'm not sure how I'll like scrolling web pages with a thumb wheel, so I was wondering if there was a way to scroll with the ball.

Like hold a button and move the ball, etc.

Whether with the built-in software, BetterTouchTool, or BetterMouse.

Thanks

Edit: Sorry? I meant SteerMouse, not BetterMouse.

And I’m on a Mac.
