Another one for my 1000 Chapters Project
Another one for the 1000 Chapters Project
A new marine joins the 1000 Chapters project — this time a battle-worn Astartes from the Hospitallers Chapter.
Wanted him to look like he’s been fighting for far too long, with the once-clean white armour absolutely battered, stained and worn down by a long campaign.
Still standing. Still fighting.
My Counter-Intelligence Unit Is Taking Shape
My counter-intelligence unit is slowly taking shape. Six operatives so far — fully self-contained, with their own systems expert, a special motivator (read: torturer), and enough muscle and firepower to deal with heavier resistance when subtlety fails.
They’re all kitbashed from a mix of Cadians old and new, Arbites, Krieg and Scions.
Basically, the bits box surplus has been sent out for some practical field experience. 😅
First time working with metal Vostroyans – any advice?
Hey folks!
Just got a Vostroyan platoon in the mail, and I absolutely love these angry little bastards 😅
However, I have zero experience working with metal miniatures – both when it comes to preparing them and actually painting them.
So I figured I’d ask the veterans here!
What’s the best way to deal with imperfections, damage, and bent parts before priming? A fair few things seem to have been bent or slightly knocked around during shipping, and I’m not really sure how forgiving the metal is or how best to straighten/fix things without damaging them.
As for painting, I’m thinking of using this platoon as my first proper airbrush project. Are there any particular pitfalls when airbrushing metal minis compared to plastic? Anything I should do differently when priming, painting, or varnishing them?
Any tips from experienced Vostroyan/metal miniature painters would be greatly appreciated!
Astra Militarum officer kitbash
A simple Astra Militarum officer kitbash.
Mostly based on the Cadian Command Squad officer with a few extra bits from the bits box.
Ordo Sicarius kitbash
Finished my latest kitbash! This time it’s an Inquisitor in power armour.
I imagine this guy belongs to the Ordo Sicarius—a powerful Inquisitor tasked with hunting down rogue Assassins, equipped with heavy weapons and a jump pack to match his prey.
This was a really fun project to build. It uses parts from old Firstborn Space Marines, Solar Auxilia, and Adeptus Mechanicus kits, plus plenty of random bits and bobs from the bits box.
Another Inquisitor kitbash in progress.
This one is equipped with power armor, some kind of jump pack, a power fist, and a chainsword.
It’s built from a mix of Firstborn Space Marine, Blood Angels Firstborn, Solar Auxilia, and Adeptus Mechanicus parts.
I’m hoping the paint job will help sell him as a unique Inquisitor rather than just looking like a slightly odd Space Marine.
First member of a new Counter-Intelligence unit
The first member of a new unit I’m putting together for a yet-to-be-decided Astra Militarum regiment.
The idea is a small counter-intelligence/security detachment tasked with rooting out infiltrators, heretics, cultists, and other internal threats before they become someone else’s problem.
It’s a simple kitbash, mostly based on the Cadian Command Squad officer with just a handful of tweaks from the bits box to give him a bit more character.
A task master for my Kill Team
Finally finished my latest kitbash project.
An Ordo Xenos Inquisitor overlooking the battlefield, directing his Deathwatch kill team from atop a fortified palisade. Everything here came from the bits box, and turning a pile of random parts into a small scene like this is easily my favorite part of the hobby.
Hope you like it!
Ordo Xenos Inquisitor Micro-Diorama
Finally finished my latest kitbash project.
An Ordo Xenos Inquisitor overlooking the battlefield, directing his Deathwatch kill team from atop a fortified palisade. Everything here came from the bits box, and turning a pile of random parts into a small scene like this is easily my favorite part of the hobby.
Hope you like it!
Ordo Xenos Inquisitor
My latest kitbash project. I wanted to create an Ordo Xenos Inquisitor as part of a small micro-diorama—a sort of mission commander for my Deathwatch Marines.
The idea is that he’s standing atop the palisade, addressing his troops before deployment.
Every single part came from the bits box. It’s a real mix of components from Sisters of Battle, Imperial Guard, Solar Auxilia, and plenty of other random kits.
I’m hoping a good paint job will tie everything together and really sell the scene.
Building things from scratch like this is probably my favorite part of the hobby. There’s something incredibly satisfying about taking a pile of unrelated bits and turning them into a unique character with their own story.
My first Silver Skull!
Another addition to my ongoing 1000 Chapters project! This time: a Silver Skull. A subtle kitbash to create a more dynamic, custom pose while staying true to the Chapter’s look and feel.
Custom Shadow Wolf from a myriad of parts
Either the very last Astartes of a once-proud Chapter, or the first warrior of something new… depending on what my pile of shame allows. 🙂
Alpha Legion Test Model – Potential New Project
This is a test model for a possible Alpha Legion project I’ve been thinking about.
My interpretation of the Alpha Legion has always been that, deep down, they’re the Legion closest to humanity. They fight for mankind across the galaxy, regardless of dogma, ideology, or tradition. I think of them a bit like Churchill allowing the bombing of Coventry to protect the secret that Enigma had been broken—the greater good requiring impossible choices.
Visually, I wanted to lean into a futuristic style inspired by 1980s action comics. I’ve always loved the way Cobra was portrayed in the early G.I. Joe comics, and I think this miniature captures some of that aesthetic.
Parts used:
Helmet: Armageddon box
Left arm: Primaris Infiltrators
Right arm (with the ridiculously oversized scoped, suppressed bolter): Firstborn Deathwatch kit
Body: Horus Heresy Mk II armour
The paint job is far from perfect, but that’s what test models are for. Hopefully each marine will be a little cleaner than the last as the project grows.
Three New Marines Join the 1000 Chapters Project
Three new Marines for my ongoing 1000 Chapters project.
This time, all three are Primaris Marines freely kitbashed with various Firstborn bits to give them a bit more character and individuality.
Joining the ranks are a Flesh Tearer, a Hawk Lord, and a Brazen Minotaur.
Two Breachers Join the Long Vigil
Two breachers join the Long Vigil: a Hospitaller and a Black Shield.
Both are custom poses and kitbashed using a mix of Primaris and Firstborn bits.
My Saturnine heavy terminator kitbash didn’t quite work out
I kitbashed an extra-heavy Terminator from a Saturnine Terminator, 40k arms and weapons, and a Saturnine Dreadnought head.
Thought this was going to be one of those “trust the process” builds. Turns out the process cannot always be trusted.
Now that it’s painted, it looks… not exactly how I imagined it. But I’ve already invested enough time, effort, and optimism into this lad that I might as well post him.
Let this be a reminder: not every kitbash is a masterpiece.
