And I lucked out getting this VERY early. Should come in handy against those pesky knife-ears
It's been a bit since I last played. Used to seeing the Dwarfs get streamrolled early and most of them die out.
This time around playing I rushed Karak Eight Peaks within the first 15 turns and fought the Skaven for awhile. Not sure if that was key or if a recent update made the Dwarfs better.
Playing on VH/VH and I don't even want to confederate any of them because they're out there doing their thing well and I don't need the extra micromanagement. Maybe this is the game I can finally complete the Book of Grudges?
Genius and Herculean, plus Comely. That was a nice dice roll. I'm sure no plague will show up to ruin this
She gave me SEVEN children and saved my Dynasty, thanks inappropriate relationships! *hands on hips, cocks head to side and smiles*
I posted this in the BG3 group and was IMMEDIATELY set upon with torches, lol. I was told this group loves to hate on the game so hopefully I'll find some curmudgeonly souls to share my displeasure with.
I've played Larians Divinity Original Sin 2 so I'm familiar with their work.
But I always felt DOS2 suffered from issues with often needing foreknowledge of encounters as they'd set you up to have your whole party all clumped together while enemies have high ground, are spread out and not vulnerable to AOE attacks, and conveniently there's barrels or surfaces ready to damage the absolute hell out of you and they're just EVERYWHERE.
When playing BG3 my gripes that kept it from living up to the hype for me were:
HOLDING ALT DOESN'T REVEAL EVERYTHING
You're supposed to hold it down to reveal interactable objects. But it doesn't reveal every object, there are often TONS of objects that don't highlight that you have to just mouse around to find.
INVENTORY BLOAT & JUNK
Good god, so much STUFF! It's a disorganized mess, whether its your own inventory or vendors inventory as well.
And there are a number of items you might pickup in Act 1 that you can use later in Act 3 if you hold onto them. But if you don't have that prior knowledge, you might not have kept said items, or have them on your person, etc.
There's also just too many containers with junk that you spend time looking through. Streamline that stuff and value the players time, don't make us waste tons of time hunting through every nook and cranny and turning up moldy tomatoes.
And I have more potions, scrolls, arrows, etc. than I know what to do with. And selling them is pointless because I have too much gold too!
COMPANIONS ROMANCE TOO QUICKLY
I kill an Owlbear and suddenly Lae'Zel wants to "taste me". Like chill frog-lady, we still barely know one another.
BUGS/CRASHES
Games been out 3 years, numerous patches and updates. Yet I still encounter bugs, some of them known, etc. One was in Act 3 when I was in the sewers and got into a huge battle with some dude who was killing cultists and had a bunch of mephits or something with him.
Was deep into the battle and BAM crashed to desktop, which just killed my desire to reload and replay that whole damned battle.
LIMITED PARTY SIZE
I know there's a mod to allow you to have larger parties. My biggest gripe here is that you miss out on tons of dialogue/interactions. Oftentimes you will wind up sticking with the same party members throughout. I was never bringing the majority of my companions out with me.
Yet they'll interact in camp like we've developed some deep, meaningful relationships when the only time I see them is at camp.
I get the whole "oh, it makes the game REPLAYABLE" line here. But this game is insanely long as it is, ain't nobody got time to replay this 100 gazillion times to try and get the various bits of dialogue.
Plus, there are certain times you'll encounter individuals or events that match up with specific party members. But they get mad you didn't have them with you when you met a specific person or group. Again, you need foreknowledge of what is coming to ensure you have those specific party members along for the ride.
UNIQUE ITEM PROGRESSION
While there are some cool items you'll pickup. I often felt mostly underwhelmed with the feeling of power/progression from items as I went through the acts. Perhaps the biggest letdown being in dealing with vendors, especially as you progressed, and not really feeling like there was a ton to interest you or to try and save up or chase after.
Yes, I know there are some really good items you find or obtain from events and quests. But overall just felt mostly underwhelmed here.
There was a distinct lack of cloaks for most of the game, etc. I come from an older school of D&D where there were more unique stat-boosting items to be found, so perhaps it's more a 5E issue which I feel is kinda watered-down D&D for "the masses"
COMPANION PATHING
Stop running into damned traps already!
UNLIMITED RESOURCES
I never really feel like my back is to the wall and I need to conserve resources/spells, etc. I know I can just easily long-rest to get back to full strength before the next encounter.
ESCAPE DOESN'T PAUSE THE GAME
It takes you to a number of menus, but the game is still running in the background, so you can still wind up entering combat. I can't think of any RPG where hitting ESC to get to a menu didn't pause the game.
FINAL NOTES
Look, I don't despise the game, I just don't think it deserves the insane level of hype it got given the flaws I encountered. And by god man, who is putting all these exploding barrels all over the world????
Why don't they all destroy each other so I can win already?
Now my true heir will inherit all the territories, huzzah! Huzzah for castration!
- Average CK3 Enjoyer
Absolute Cinema!
Y'all better fear her, the tiny ones are feisty!
why do bad things happen to good people?
I don't know what it is, but I'm seeing an abnormally high number of new recruits being offered that are hunchbacks, anyone else experiencing this?
Went to create a new ruler and it instantly gave me this
Guy is just sitting in this one spot stacking dice. He's got a large enough stack that nobody is going to suicide into him. He could be making one tiny attack per turn to at least collect some cards to turn in.
Does he HATE DICE????
I'm nearing the end of Act 2 and just put these on Lae' Zel since I figured they worked well together, especially with multiple attacks, can add some nice boosts to damage and potentially hurt clumped up enemies with the noxious fumes effect.
This is my first run, any other items or tips that would improve this or something better? She's got the Silver Sword from the dragon rider in Act I already.
I grew up watching X-Men back in the 90's and LOVED the theme song. So when I saw a guy at the World Series of Poker Popping & Locking I had to make this
I'm in Act 2 and fighting the shadow-cursed Shambling Mound and his minions.
My Tav is a Sorcerer and the Shambling Mound used some ability to yeet me from the lower ground all the way up to the top of the rocks where he is.
Then a couple of dead bodies popped to life and rushed over so my Sorcerer was all alone with three enemies surrounding him.
Finally got a chance to use Thunderwave, the boss was still near his top health. It sent all three of them flying off screen and I'm guessing they flew right off into a nearby chasm cause I don't see them anymore.
So didn't have to deal with trying to delete his health bar, he's just insta-dead. Man that felt really cool!
