What is your partition set up and why?

Hey! I'm new to Arch and after a while one thing I'm still trying to wrap my head around is the different ways and reasons you can partition everything. From my main understanding, people usually have 3 partitions. One boot partition, one main partition which holds all of your data, and a possible swap partition if you decide to do that rather than a swap file.

Though I know this can be different between people, and it seems like a very subjective thing. That's why I'm curious to see what others did when partitioning, I just want to see what other options there might be depending on the person!

How would I select the bottom portion of this layer and split it into a second layer alone?

I want to move the word "death" separately from the word "plastic". I don't have a clue on how to do this and the only tutorials I can find online are how to export them separately rather than cutting them in half and putting each within its own layer.

Is there a way to skew a rendered grid without using the legacy one?

I'm attempting to make a skewed grid pattern as shown in the photo. The problem is, if I render a grid by doing Filters > Render > Pattern > Grid, the modern grid cannot be skewed using Unified Transform. Now, the legacy grid can be skewed, but its way more difficult to render it into the correct dimensions I want it to be. Am I missing something or is this just something thats not easily possible?

First ever mixtapes!

I recently got into cassettes when I bought a SONY TC-WE305 at a thrift store. After some research, a belt replacement, and buying a few tapes... I recorded over some stuff I like!

I also custom made the J-Cards which was a lot of fun and I think they came out pretty good!

Loud screeching / screaming coming from only one deck when rewinding [SONY TC-WE305

What is the cause of this and how do I fix it?

The screeching only happens in deck B, as shown in the video, deck A works fine with no noise. deck B also makes no noise if rewinding without a tape inside... I recently replaced belts, could one of them belts be slipping due to the torque of the cassette?

Is there a way to reinforce the head plates of cockroaches?

I own dubia roaches, and when they pass or shed, I like to collect the plates that usually protect their head as they always have some really pretty patterns. I would love to turn something like this into a necklace or key chain, but the problem is they are incredibly delicate and crack under the slightest of force. I was wondering if there was a way to make them a lot more durable?

I was thinking some sort of clear epoxy or resin shaved down to work well as jewelry, but I fear they might break in the process. That or lamination or something similar, but I fear the same thing might happen.

Mostly just wondering if anyone has tried anything similar and know what to do?

Apologies if this isnt the correct place to ask

Skip to loudest section within audio file?

Hey, I'm trying to find the loudest section of an audio file. I was wondering if there was an easier way to find where the peak of the volume is within the audio rather than having to scroll over and eventually find it. Its a bit difficult in my scenario because a lot of the audio gets very close to maxing out meaning its all very similar heights within audacity but you can very much hear the volume differences when actually listening to it. It also doesn't help that my audio file is a bit long, being around 30 minutes to an hour long.

First time recording a cassette! Few questions for a few issues (SONY TC-WE305)

Hey! I'm new to recording onto cassettes and just recorded an album onto one for the first time. While, I wasn't expecting this too be perfect I still do wonder what caused these issues and if there are things I should do to or fix to avoid them.

To preface, I recorded the album on an older tape I found at the thrift store using a SONY TC-WE305 cassette deck, of which, I recently replaced the belts for and did a few other cleaning things (like wiping off the gunk on the sensors)

First, there are a few parts of the song that sound a bit slowed down and then speed back up, its very mild but I can notice it because Ive listened to this album so many times. I think this is called "wow"? Is this a problem with belts not fitting tight enough or could it just be the cassette itself being older and possible a little wrinkled or weird inside?

Next, there are a few parts where sound gets a little bit quieter (video for example) and then goes back to the normal volume, I don't have any guesses for why other than, again, old tape.

Finally, there a few sections where sound cuts out for a very tiny little bit, but I think that may just be clipping, so next time id just have to lower the recording level a bit. I do want to ask, how much is too much when it goes into zones above 0 (idk how it is with other decks, but for this one, 0 is for type I and II tapes, anything higher (+3 as listed on the deck) goes into a red zone which I assume would be clipping)? with the song I recorded, it goes into the red sometimes, but not for much longer than a light flicker other than one or two parts (which i definitely need to lower it a bit lol)

Sorry if these are pretty simple questions, whenever id look anything up it'd give me worst case scenario moments rather than little things (like an entire song clipping and not recording, or a really extreme wobbly sound, etc.)

Also thank you to everyone who s helped me before on this subreddit, I really appreciate it and I'm really excited to get into the hobby and I'm really enjoying it a lot so far!

Does it matter that the belt is slightly twisted? (Sony TC-WE305)

I am attempting to replace the belts on my deck, but every time I attempt to get it on it gets a little bit twisted. Will this effect anything or is this normal and fine?

Cleaning Car Stereo Tape Player?

My vehicle (98 dodge caravan) comes with a tape player built into the stereo. I use this tape player fairly often but not with normal tapes, instead, I use a bluetooth adapter cassette. I do plan to start using normal cassettes on it eventually and I have tested and, can confirm, it does work with normal cassettes fine, but I'm worried that this thing hasn't been cleaned or even opened in its whole life time.

Cleaning it will be quite a pain, but I'm wondering if its worth opening it now, or just to open it and clean it when problems begin arising. I have also heard about vehicle cassette player cleaners, but these could only possibly clean the censors and I have no clue how well of a job it can do, depending on the amount of gunk on everything.

This might be a question for car people rather than tape people, but how different could the tape player be within a car stereo compared to your usual deck or player? Could these car players also have the melty belt issue given enough time?

Black "tar" on cassette, is this melted belt?

After testing a cassette deck I bought, I noticed after pulling out the cassette, it had a little bit of this black tar on it. After wiping it off, I realized it was... tar like and was very oily and was difficult to clean off of my hands. Is this piece of a belt thats melted away or is it something else?

Edit: It indeed is belt tar, thank you!

Found a cheap tape deck at a thrift store, anything I should know before hand? [SONY TC-WE305]

I should start by saying I am a beginner and haven't dabbled much with this sort of thing... so tips would be nice! I have done a good amount of reading but I probably missed some good beginner tips.

Found this at a thrift store for a little under 10 dollars so I decided to grab it. Its a little dirty and crusty in some areas (externally, I haven't yet opened it up and checked it internally) but nothing that a little bit of rubbing alcohol cant fix...

So far it seems to work, buttons work fine, nothing is sticky, and when running it without a tape everything seems to spin fine (kind of, getting into that soon) and what-not... but I haven't yet grabbed any tapes to test its actual playing or recording abilities (haven't wanted to rummage through a bunch of old stuff hidden away)

I was curious if there is anything I should know before attempting to use it, I do know this is a bit of a cheaper tape deck but its fine to use as a beginner I think. My only real concern is the deck B... When I rewind I hear a sound that is a rhythmic tapping sound as it goes. Could that be a concern at all? I have heard that the belts in these things can get old and eventually melt (though, I feel like if it was actually fully melted it wouldn't even be turning... or at least, not very well...)

here is a video with audio, couldn't figure out how to attach a video to the post.

The main reason why this concerns me at all is deck A doesn't do this.

Springtails not eating molded food?

I have had springtail cultures for years.... but the one issue I always run into is that if they leave some food behind for some reason (in this case, yeast flakes) and it begins to mold... they ignore the mold and I have to manually clean it up myself. Just wondering why?

Small hard black thing, seed?

Found this in my bed, thought it was a price of lint but after touching it, it is hard and rolls around like a rock. It doesn't feel rock like though and it's perfectly round. I'm thinking it's a seed but I don't know from what

Probably unimportant but I found it in my bed and I live in southern cali
