[Product Request] Good moisturizers that are safe to use on lips?

I've been dealing with dry lips and everyone says to use a moisturizer on dry lips but my face moisturuzer that I use says to avoid lips, I use Purito's oat gel cream.
Was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a good moisturizer that would be safe to use on lips?
Looking for something that's easy on sensitive skin!

I made a tier list of everything I tried

I feel like this could help someone out there in the future, maybe, I was mostly just bored so I made this lol

Currently trying probiotics, I'm on my second day of trying them. Praying they work some magic.

Reasoning for why not trying things :

- I haven't tried Red light therapy as I'm not sure if it will really help, and that's -300€ out of my pocket. Keeping it as a last resort lol

- I haven't tried Mandelic Acid as it sounds weird putting acid on already irritated and raw lips... And the creator who recommends it on this sub seems weird to me. Heavy AI usage followed by disappearing from Reddit is sketchy to me, but I will also keep that as a last option if I ran out of things to try.

- I haven't tried any steroid creams yet as I'm still working with my dermatologist on solutions before going into steroids. Currently waiting to start a allergic patch test in Sept.

There's still a lot of products/tests I have yet to try but I didn't add them to the list as it would be long, so I only added the most recommended things I've seen.

Is the Laneige Lip Mask similar to the Lip Glowy Balm?

Hi guys!! Recently been using the Laneige lip mask and I love it!! I even use it throughout the day because it helps with my dry lips and makes them glossy and nice!

But re-applying it when I'm outside is kind of awkward with the little tube and spoon haha 🥲

Was wondering if there's any other product from Laneige that is similar to the their lip mask which would be easier to apply? Maybe the Lip Glowy Balm? I see a lot of hype about the Glowy Balm so I was wondering if anyone here has tried and if its similar!

Does anyone else here deal with lip swelling?

Curious if anyone else on here deals with lip swelling similarly to how it is like on my bottom lip.

u/Mochagnat — 13 days ago

Why is my bottom lip getting swollen like this? Anyone experienced this?

I went to a dermatologist about it and she didn't say much besides telling me I should get a allery patch test done.
But I can only do that in September and I'm feeling so lost and depressed about my lips.
They don't look like this everyday, they have good days but once a week they swell up like this and then the skin peels.
I tried figuring out myself what could be triggering it, but I can't find anything in particular besides floride, which I've already removed.

Just posting this in case maybe someone else has dealt with this and could give some advice
Also does anyone know what's with the white looking hairs around my lip? I sometimes notice them and other times don't. Don't recall having them before this lip issue, but I may just not have paid attention.

How can I heal my lip barrier?

- please read before commenting -
Not sure if this is the right space to post for lips, I thought it would work in here too since the lips also have a skin barrier which mine has been awful for the past months.
I tried posting in other subs but I tend to get really unhelpful/generic advice.

I'm mostly looking for tips or maybe some advice, it all originally started from what I think was an allergic reaction and it hasn't improved much. I believe I removed the allergic reaction as I don't have blisters/redness anymore. But now my lips just keep on peeling, every 2-3 days, without me even disturbing it much, once the skin falls off, sometimes it remains raw and tingles/burns, then the skin grows back and repeat. The skin feels really sensitive and is in that awkward spot of where too much moisture ruins progress and too little moisture also ruins progress. I'm basically not dealing with the average "dry lips" issue. It feels similar to EC but also not really as I don't really grow any "extra" keratin, the keratin I do grow just does not seem to stick/heal properly.
I went to a dermatologist about it and she didn't provide much besides recommending me to do a patch test to figure out what the initial reaction started from, but I am only able to do that in September and I feel really lost right now on what to do to make it better or less ugly..
I mostly use Aquaphor right now, but sometimes it makes the skin white/loose, similarly like in the pictures attached. But then I fear that if I don't apply aquaphor my lips will get dry

Things I've tried but haven't made much progress with (so pls don't comment about it🥲
Products - Aquaphor (so far using this the most), Labello Original stick, Avène Cicalfate+, Bioderma intensive baume, pure lanolin, La Roche Posay Cicaplast, Vaseline.
Lifestyle - Drinking more water, taking daily vitamin supplements, swapping toothpaste to bio one (no irritants), stopped drinking out of metal cans, started drinking only with straws, started cutting all of my food in small pieces to avoid contact with my lips, avoiding spicy food/food irritatants, stopped using any make-up.

Also would love maybe a recommendation of a gentle moisturizer that is lip friendly!
right now I'm using the Purito oat gel cream on my face but I'm not sure if that would be good to use on lips as well.

I also recently bought the lainge lip mask as I've seen some hype around but I've been scared to use as my lips end up in a "raw" state if the skin does come out on its own, not sure if it'd be smart to use it on raw skincare.

does this happen to anyone else?

This is the only thing that's been happening to me lately, was wondering if there's anyone else that experiences this.
My lips look normal now, the only issue I have is this thin, soft, fragile skin that gets stuck onto my lips and peels off like this when I talk or do motions like the one in the video.
It doesn't seem to happen from eating food as much as I can tell, seems to happen just from my lips touching each other.

u/Mochagnat — 18 days ago

Do most lipbalms not work for you guys either?

I've been constantly trying different lip balms and it always feels like they don't work, they either don't do anything, or they make my lips red/raw

The only thing that helps makes them feel normal seems to be vaseline, I'm curious if this is just a thing on my end or everyone else.

I've seen some people on here using cerave moisturizing cream, haven't tried that yet.

Dermatologist told me to only use Vaseline on lips at night..Thoughts?

Went to a dermatologist for the first time for my dry lips and she told me to not use Vaseline anymore on my lips unless it's at night.
She recommended me to use "Avene Cicalfate+" which I tried and I don't fancy it as its making my lips really white and they are back to being dry in less than 3 hours.

What are your opinions on using Vaseline throughout the day?

Personally it's been the only thing helping my lips feel normal because of how dry they get.
I've tried nearly everything else, Lanolin, Aquaphor, Labello, LRP cicaplast..and Vaseline has been the only one making them feel the best and I maybe have to apply it twice, three times a day.
Would it be bad to still use Vaseline despite what she said?

Edit: Thank you everyone for all the product suggestions and helpful tips!! I am very excited to at some point try everyone's suggestions until I can get to the bottom of this! :)

Little add-on since this post seems to get some traction and I don't want to repeat myself in the comments,
My dry lips started from an allergic reaction to my toothpaste! The irritation has gone away ever since I've swapped toothpastes, but sadly the skin seems to be struggling ever since and not heal properly, I'm in a constant dry and peeling cycle. Before the allergic reaction I've not dealt with dry/peely lips at all.
My derm wants me to do allergy patch testing before treating me so hopefully that'll help!

Derm told me to do patch testing, need some advice!

Hi all, for the past months I've been dealing with very dry and peely lips ever since I had an allergic reaction to my toothpaste.
I went to a dermatologist for the first time yesterday and she recommended me to do a allergy patch test and said she can't help me with my dry lips at all until I do one.

This my first time ever having to do one and I am a bit confused about the process I suppose?
She told me I'll have to stick some stuff to my back and keep them on for 3 days, to which I'll have to come back, do it again and keep for 3 days and then once more?
She also has told me that I can not shower during this time and that I should look to do the allergy patch test in winter as I can't shower and not showering with during summer would be not a good idea.

I'm just confused because it is my first time doing it and I'm wondering if this is the normal way of going about it? I'm not very well informed with patch testing and she didn't seem interested in answering my questions as she seemed in a rush.

does this look like a rash?

I think it slightly burns? Feels tight I didn't notice it until I looked in the mirror. I noticed a few red spots like 2 days ago but it didn't look alarming now it seemed to have spread?

u/Mochagnat — 2 months ago

any of you ever experienced these red dots?

Had this happen recently, not sure if its an allergic reaction or something to do with EC

My healing journey + routine/products!

Hello everyone!
Just wanted to share what I’ve been using and what seems to be working for me in case it helps anyone else!!

My lips, like many of you, have been stuck in a cycle of peeling, irritated lips since April after a really bad allergic reaction. Prior to the allergic reaction, I never had issues with dry lips. So this was new for me.
They had better and worse days, the pictures I've attached are the worst they looked. I am fortunate enough that I've never had to experience the big dead skin chunks. So maybe my routine won't help those who do. Sorry. :(
I am also not diagnosed with EC by a dermatologist, I've yet to see a dermatologist as I have an appointment only in October, so I've self diagnosed myself as this seems to be what I relate to the most and I've been treating myself with I believe is best.

Timelines - (feel free to skip to routine if you aren't curious)

1st picture, from April,
I was using only Aquaphor and Vaseline, it wasn't doing anything besides making the dead skin soft and annoying.
I swapped to an all natural toothpaste and stopped using mouthwash, I couldn't floss due to pain.
Stopped drinking fizzy drinks, I was drinking only water.
This month was the worst of it all, it was so painful and burning constantly.

2nd picture, from May,
is when I attempted "Leave alone" method, I attempted it only for one day as my lips ended up splitting open and bleeding not long after I took the picture and I got scared from continuing it.
I kept doing the same routine from April. Everything was still painful.

Pictures from June,
This is when I found out about Exfoliative Cheilitis, and found this sub, I tried my best learn as much as I could, read everyone's stories and advices, read blogs etc.
13th June, is the last day i was using only Aquaphor. That day I decided to order "La Roche Posay Cicaplast" as I've seen some people recommending it.
26th June, is a few days of using La Roche over Aquaphor, this day I also decided to try this cotton pad method I've seen some posts of, the picture was taken before I tried it.
30th June, is me doing cotton pad x3 a day, and La Roche. This is the best I've ever seen my lips and the best they ever felt, La Roche was amazing but sadly my lips were still getting really dry fairly fast, every 5 hours I had to do the routine otherwise it would feel uncomfortable.
The picture where I circled my lip lines, I was so happy about that, I thought my lips texture was finally coming back, sadly though that has fallen off, though I think it was my fault for not moisturizing properly therefore getting dry too early.
In the morning I also decided to try my normal toothpaste again to which I had zero reaction to! Besides that it felt weird tasting mint again lol, at night I didn't want to push it so I resorted back to the natural toothpaste and instead I decided to try flossing again for the first time, which was a bit awkward but it didn't hurt!

Pictures from July,
I decided to introduce a moisturizer, which is the "Atoderm Intensive Baume" in hopes to not let my lips dry out as fast as they used to, I took those pictures mid day and I did my routine in morning, and they still look hydrated and nice! In fact I even forgot to do the middle day routine.
This is something I will still have to test with and see how it goes, but so far so good for the 1st day! :)
In the morning I also used my normal toothpaste again and I used my mouthwash again! Seems okay so far and had no issues.
Also that red spot on my bottom lip, I'm pretty sure is a pimple from me touching my lips too much, oops.

Now, here's a more better explained routine for those that don't want to read everything or want it simplified.

The routine,

I do the routine three times a day

- Wash teeth, and clean my tongue with a tongue scraper.
If your lips get red after brushing, use an all natural toothpaste, sometimes just SLS free isn't enough!

- soak a cotton pad in warm filtered water, tap it gently on your lips to clean them.
Do this as you see fit, I see different takes on it, I tend to leave the cotton pad on my lips for a bit, maybe 20-30 seconds, then I tap gently, to which I then gently try to remove the skin that looks like will come off, I don't force it. What I mean by that is once the lips are "wet" the dead skin will naturally turn soft and white, if that white layer of skin looks like it isn't attached to the lip, you can tell by how it sits at the top, then I remove it gently by tapping it with the soaked cotton pad, sometimes they are a bit harder to remove to which I usually get a q-tip, soak it in the warm filtered water and gently press a tiny bit to take it off.
This takes some getting used to as you don't want to remove skin that may just be new healing skin, it's a bit confusing as they look similar. If there's no dead skin to remove then I just do this to clean them!

- I let my lips air dry a bit
Some people say it's best to apply products on wet lips for that moisture, but I find it best to do it once the skin settles down a bit and is dry, this may differ depending on your lips!

- I apply a light layer of the Atoderm Intensive Baume
Tap it on your lips gently, don't swipe, if you prefer to swipe do it gently.
I don't think you need this specific one, any moisturizer will do!

- I seal it in with La Roche Posay Cicaplast, Vaseline (Aquaphor or lanolin also works if you prefer those)
I personally prefer La Roche as I feel like Vaseline can be a bit "heavy" for me and La Roche is more light, but La Roche is a bit expensive so I'm trying to make Vaseline work.
I don't swipe it again, I only gently tap it onto my lips.

I re-apply Vaseline / La Roche throughout the day if my lips feel like they need it.
And that's it! :D

I am obviously not healed, as I still do have dead skin that comes off and my lips don't look perfect, but I am pretty happy with them so far!
The routine as I said is still new, but its similar to many on here as I've taken their advice but added my own twist to it. I've been basically only doing it for a week so I need to give it more time to see proper improvement and I may change some things here and there, but only for a week it feels great!
I am so happy that things feel and look more normal :)

I hope maybe this helps anyone else out there!
If there's any questions, feel free to ask!
Good luck to you all <3

I do not recommend the moisturizer, I believe it has made me lips really red and irritated 😖

Should I visit a dentist for a swollen feeling in one corner of my mouth (inside)

I am just wondering if a dentist could help with this at all as it's not a gum / tooth issue, but it's still inside the mouth and I don't want to waste their time.

My right mouth corner feels swollen inside when I poke/touch it with my tongue, it's not something that bothers me much as the feeling fades away throughout the day but it is something I'm curious about since it didn't happen before.
Edit: forgot to mention i have this exact swollen and sore feeling where the philtrum is as well, still inside only, nothing externally

My mouth corner had a period where it used to be a little red externally (not cracked), which made me think of angular Chelitis or maybe something fungal, but the redness went away and the inside is still weird feeling.

Does this look like EC? + My story.

Hello everyone!
I am pretty sure I have EC but I am not diagnosed.

Have been dealing with my lips being a in peeling cycle for 2-3 months now, I believe it started from an allergic reaction, I was drinking a monster, and my lips instantly started burning, I kept drinking for a while like a dummy, thinking it's nothing serious, but then a red inner line started forming and it was burning so bad, I ran to the bathroom and had to constantly have my lips under cold water because of the burning sensation, I was in so much agony and my doctor was on vacation, so I went to the ER which they told me it's herpes, to be fair at the time I had a lot of clear looking pimples showing up, you can see in the photo slide 5, towards the bottom. I went to my family doctor once he was back from vacation and he said it is not herpes and most likely an allergic reaction, and then he recommended me to use Labello, and drink loads of water. I am pretty sure it was an allergic reaction to the metal can as I've been drinking the monster flavor for years without issue.

Slide 5, is the WORST my lips have been, I was waking up with my lips stuck together and not being able to even talk without putting some water on them, they were burning and stinging, I could barely open my mouth to talk or eat, I entirely stopped washing my teeth for a week (I know ew) but I just could not open my mouth. I had dry lips constantly, and I kept reapplying Labello like every 10 minutes because they felt so dry. On the picture where there's a teal dot, is the last day I used my normal toothpaste, I figured out my lips were getting SO red and being so irritated due to the toothpaste. Changing it made a huge difference. My lips haven't been in that bad of a condition since.

Slide 4, are my lips on a normal basis, I think the biggest change to my routine has been aquaphor and the tooth paste + chugging loads of water. Most days they look normal which is why I'm a bit hesitant to say that it's EC, although I feel like aquaphor is holding everything down from looking worse. I think if I stop applying aquaphor they'll go back to looking bad. At first I was applying aquaphor every 20 minutes, but I slowly got to applying it once every 2-3 hours? I could honestly go for longer but I'm just scared. I still do have the dead skin, when my lips are wet from washing my teeth and then I apply aquaphor is when i can see the dead skin because i lift it up a bit, it always gets me to worry but it doesn't look like anything as bad as it used to be.

Picture 1/2/3 are recent. My burning sensation entirely stopped, they don't ever feel like burning or stinging, all they do is have some dead skin here and there, it's always on the same spots and it feels uncomfortable sometimes to talk. The dead skin is also very little, at least that I can see. Mornings are the worst part of my day, I wake up with my lips pretty numb and a bit swollen.

I've not been to a dermatologist, sadly they are fully booked until October so me thinking I have EC is a self diagnosis, from everything I've googled this is the closest to what i can relate to. I will say though my mouth corner also gets really red sometimes, it doesn't crack but it's just red and swollen, even inside of my mouth, if I touch the corner with my tongue it feels swollen and sore same with above my front teeth, still inside the mouth, if I touch it with my tongue it feels swollen and sore, curious if anyone else with EC can relate to this? Eating ice cream or drinking cold beverages helps a LOT with this.

[Routine Help] How to stop or help constant lip peeling cycle?

Hello everyone. I've been dealing with this lip issue for 2-3 months now, which I believe started as an allergic reaction from a drink, not sure really but it was REALLY bad at first (slide 4) I could barely open my mouth to drink/talk, washing my teeth was impossible for like 3 weeks from pain, I went to the Doctor for it and he couldn't help more besides recommending me some labelo. I used that for like a month and it wasn't doing anything tbh. Once I swapped to aquaphor I think it helped drastically (slide 3) the peeling / flakes became more soft and doesn't look as dramatic as it looked before, they aren't as dry anymore, the pain also went down a bit, honestly they look close to "normal" but when I wake up in the morning I still always have some soft dead skin on my lips and my lips still feel tender to touch and sometimes hurt, sometimes even oddly sticky lol. I'm honestly unsure what to do anymore besides just keep on applying aquaphor and hope that they'll be better but I'm curious if anyone else that has maybe gone through something similar and has some advice to take better care of them?

The first two pictures are from today when I woke up (already had aquaphor on them). I've been noticing a lot of soreness/stiffness in my mouth corner, even inside of my mouth when I touch the corner with my tongue from the inside it feels sore/tender and kind of feels puffy if that makes sense? which leads me to think it may be something fungal? But I'm not sure.

Things I've tried / have done.
- Got blood work done. Doctor said it all looks fine
- I used to take multivitamins. Stopped taking them.
- Tried leaving them be for like two days. It made them really dry and bleed, got scared and stopped.
- Tried pure lanolin for like 2 days. Didn't quite like the consitancy, felt really sticky and like it was making them worse.
- Swapped toothpaste. I use one that's free of basically any irritant and I stopped using mouth wash. Even swapped to a new toothbrush.
- Started drinking only out of only straws and I don't bite into anything anymore.
- Started drinking more water. I think I do over 2L a day but sometimes I may be slacking.
- Stopped applying ANYTHING on my face / lips. No makeup, only lip balms / chapsticks. All I've tried so far has been Labelo, Vaseline, Pure lanolin, Aquaphor.

I think that's basically it.
Also just in case someone will say "Go to a dermatologist". I am actively trying, sadly, the soonest I can possibly see a dermatologist is in late October, so I'm taking my chances here and hoping anything at all that would make this better as it's so mentally draining :/
