FYI about the delivery windows from an Ex Courier

I used to deliver for Express, and I see a lot of complaints here about drivers not arriving when the app says they will.
FYI, the delivery windows the FedEx app gives you “your package will arrive between 1:03 PM–2:07 PM” are basically made-up, AI-generated estimates. Those magic numbers are when the AI assumes the driver will be in your area. I wouldn’t rely on them or get upset with your driver for not being there during that specific window.
FedEx gives drivers a delivery map to follow, and my guess is that the estimated window is based on that map. The problem is, that map can be completely out of whack and outrageously out of order.
For example, when I was a driver, I’d have Stop 5 right next door to Stop 59. The sequence made just about as little sense to us as it did to the customers. It led to a lot of customers getting mad at me because their package wasn’t there during the window FedEx gave them. (I didn’t even know what delivery window the customer was seeing.)
Obviously, Priority Overnight shipments are different. I’m not talking about those here.

My deadbeat father asking for money

I’m 28 female, and the man has never been in my life. He has 2 other sons that he has raised and taken care of. He also gave up his parenting rights when I was in 8th grade, and his name was removed from my birth certificate. My mom’s husband adopted me. I haven’t seen him since my high school graduation 10 years ago, and yesterday on Father’s Day, he messaged me asking for 100 dollars, saying he would pay me back out of his wife’s disability check on the first (he also has never paid child support). Give me something brutal.

Identifying food triggers that have helped me tremendously

Some triggers I’ve noticed so far that have actually helped reduce binges and intense cravings while trying to lose weight:

Going out to eat: Regardless of whether I order something healthy, I usually feel overwhelmed by all the options on the menu. I get upset that I can’t have what I really want, which often leads to emotional eating as soon as I get home. I start feeling like I’ll never be able to have the foods I enjoy again, and it causes me to spiral.

Grocery shopping: Similar to eating out, seeing all the foods I would love to binge on can trigger an emotional spiral. To help with this, I’ve switched to strictly using curbside grocery pickup (also helps with my budgeting).

Not having emergency snacks available: Keeping things like protein bars, bottled water, diet soda, and low-calorie chips on hand helps prevent me from getting overly hungry and making impulsive food decisions.

Online food review videos: I used to watch these a lot, but they would make me intensely crave the foods being featured. Now, I scroll past them and try not to watch them at all.

Not counting calories: If I do not count everything I put into my body, my mind starts to spiral. I begin thinking, “I’ve probably already gone over my calories, so it doesn’t matter if I binge.” That mindset can quickly turn into eating hundreds of extra calories. Tracking everything I eat helps me feel reassured, in control, and satisfied because I know exactly where I stand within my calorie goal.

Gotta love guys pissing out their door in broad daylight where kids are running around in the other parking lot.

Today at Louisiana Texas line I-20, eat bound rest area, I’m on my 30-minute break getting my steps in walking around the rest area. Then I saw him pull in, parked halfway in the spot crooked. I was like, why is he parking like that? Then I saw him get out on his top step and start pissing all over the concrete and it’s 11am mind you. The car section is packed and has a direct view of the truck parking. Kids are running around with their families not far from his truck. I doubt they could actually see anything because he was hiding behind his door, but still absolutely diabolical. I stood there and he saw me. I yelled, “ WHAT THE F*** ARE YOU DOING?” He looked all shook, got in the truck, and drove off like much of a lazy, disgusting piece of shit Can you be? He was an owner op I’m guessing I couldn’t read the scribble he had on his truck to even attempt to call in on him unfortunately.

What shifts do you consider to be night shift?

Or what is your “they go in too early to be night shift” or “they get off too late in the morning to be nights?

I’ve worked many shifts at my current job including
3pm-11:30pm (ehh it’ll do)
4pm-4am (my favorite hours to work)
3am-11:30am (currently been on the past couple weeks this is the one I have the hardest time sleeping on)

For starters, I got my CDL in January 2021. I did OTR for 8 months, and for about a year I did a dedicated and regional account.

Then I got too cocky behind the wheel and got into an accident. Not awful, no vehicles were totaled, and thankfully no one died. There were no injuries at all, but I was fired.

I took a break from driving for about a year and a half to humble myself, get my life together, and really think about what I had done.

Now I have found a local CDL job. I have been here for about a year, and I love it. But I am only making 25 dollars an hour with hardly any overtime, and the most I will ever make at this company is 34 dollars an hour, and that will not be for another 10 years.

I just feel like there is so much more I could be doing with my CDL. I want to stay here for a while to build my resume. I have already gotten two safe driving awards since being here, and I want to prove myself.

I guess I am asking, for those who have been driving for a long time, what advice would you give someone like me trying to maximize my career? I am 28, female, and planning to live my life alone, which is why I also have compensation concerns because I know I have to plan this out for the long run. Thanks in advance!! Toot toot 🚛🚛
