There is something SERIOUSLY wrong with the timings on the PSN release

I never got to play the original PS2 version of this game. I was aware of it but didn't get around to tracking it down before the went OOP (had I known the guy who would go on to make Elite Beat Agents directed it, I probably would've tried harder).

So fast forward to a week ago, I start playing a ROM of the PSP version. No complaints, I get about two levels in and then I hear that it recently got re-relased on PSN. I figured I should do the Right Thing and buy it legitimately, so I do.

Except suddenly I'm now doing horribly at this game, and I don't understand why. I am not an amazing player, but I have a decent number of rhythm games, and I usually don't stop playing them until I've completed them on Expert mode, because I find the Expert tracks are usually the most fun. I know when I'm on-beat. Yet somehow the game keeps declaring I've missed notes that feel right to me.

I've tried various suggestions from this sub: both PS5 and PS4 versions, turning on Mono sound, nothing works. Meanwhile, just to make sure I'm not going nuts, I go back and play the first two missions again on the PSP version, and I get perfect scores on both. Something is definitely off on these re-relases.

I was close to saying, f*ck it, and playing the PSP version to completion with the justification that I paid for it indirectly, but unfortunately I can't progress beyond the third level because my ROM seems to indefinitely hang the PPSSPap emulator at the third level loading screen. So I'm back to being stuck with the PSN version and its wacky input delays.

And just for giggles, after I perfect ran the two stages on PSP and found I couldn't move forward, I went back to the PS5 version one more time. B and C ranks, again, twenty minutes after acing the same tracks on the PSP version.

It's not me, dammit. F*ck this broken ass port.

Is it possible to install a thermal carafe on a model that came with a glass pot?

I bought a 53933 KBGV last year when it was on sale and went with the glass pot, because I figured I'd always be serving the coffee immediately, and it seemed easier to clean. But my wife and I are increasingly waking up at different times for work, and I'm finding that if the coffee sits on the hot plate for more than an hour then it develops a burned taste.

I don't want to buy a whole new model for this (for one thing they're not on sale anymore), but does Moccamaster sell a thermal carafe that I can just slide under my existing model?

Shield Pro remote can turn TV off but not on.

EDIT: Solved. Setting was on the TV itself.

I believe I enabled HDMI CEC in the settings, and hitting the power button on the Shield remote will turn the Shield Pro off as well as the TV, but hitting the power button to turn the Shield on does not turn the TV on.

Is there a setting I need to change on either the Shield or the TV to enable this? I'm just trying to limit the number of remotes I have to reach for when I want to use the Shield. The TV is pretty good at automatically detecting Shield input and switching to it when I do something on the remote, provided the TV is already on.

Used prices on the Shield Pro are pretty much the same as new. Why?

Since it seems abundantly clear that there will never be a new Shield ("We'll get a new one when the Switch 2 is released", they said...), I've been looking at getting the 2019 Pro model to replace my aging HTPC.

The $200 retail which is essentially unchanged for a 7-year-old product felt a bit steep, so I've been trying to find used models on either Craigslist or eBay. But what I've noticed is that the Buy-it-Now prices on eBay hover around $190-200 anyway, and even the auctions still get to about $180 by the end.

I'm genuinely confused by this. If the item had gone OOS then I might understand, but, why would people pay $180 for a used model that might have years of wear-and-tear on it when a new factory-sealed model is still readily available on Amazon? Are the ones being sold on Amazon worse in some way than the ones on eBay? What am I missing? It seems like such a large risk to save 20 bucks.

Someone with physical hardware and Super Mario 64...I need a favor.

I've been trying to go through some of my N64 backlog on emulation (since the Switch 1 NSO collection has like nothing I want to play), and usually when I'm trying a new emulator I'll bust out Super Mario 64 to help me get a feel for how well it runs, calibrate my 8bitdo 64 controller, etc.

One thing that's taking me aback is how often Mario seems to switch to the low-poly model. If you don't know what that is, it's the model shown here, which the game I thought would only use when the camera is either really far away, or Mario is in a spot where the player can't see him.

But just while doing the basic first star, I see that model popping in all the time while fighting King Bob-Omb. I can't unsee it. Like, basically all I have to do is run away from the guy and it will switch to the crappy model.

I took some screenshots in gopher64 just to show how prevalent it is:

https://imgur.com/a/b7ernJ9

My question is: is it this bad on real hardware? I am trying to figure out if it was always this bad and Childhood Me simply didn't notice, or if something in the emulators are somehow prompting the game to switch to that model more frequently. One alternative theory I had in mind is that perhaps it was always this bad, but the fact that emulation is displaying it as a much higher resolution is making it more obvious.

Thanks for anyone who is able to check into this. It's a minor thing, but it's driving me nuts!

Is anyone working on a 2nd Super Robot Taisen OG fantran?

We've got a fantran for Original Generations on the PS2, and a (semi) official translation of OG: Moon Dwellers, but nothing on the intervening OG Gaiden or OG 2nd, as far as I can tell, which potentially makes jumping into Moon Dwellers difficult.

I was made aware on another forum that there's a translated script for 2nd SRW OG floating around. Has anyone tried inserting that into the ROM yet? The translated script is a few years old, but, I'm willing to bet it's still leaps and bounds over some of the MTL scripts people are churning out these days.

Reliable vendors for New 3DS XL replacement battery?

Wanna replace mine just to see if it helps the case gap issue. I'd prefer to buy straight from Nintendo, but they don't seem to sell them anymore.

My next choice would be the 3DS XL battery from ifixit, but the Internet seems split on whether a 3DS XL battery will work in a New 3DS XL, because they seem to be slightly different.

Anyone have recommendations for a New 3DS XL battery that comes from a reliable vendor and won't crap out after three months?

When did all the UC Gundams get Funnels?

I'm only up to Gundam ZZ in the anime backlog, but the funnels seemed to be weapons limited to the Psycho Gundam or the Qubeley models. I don't remember seeing them in Char's Counterattack. Why do Amuro, Char, Hathway, Quess, etc. all have them in the recent SRW games?

Proud owner of a pre-modded New Nintendo 3DS XL. Have questions.

Just bought a pre-modded Galaxy N3DSXL off someone. They said they first jailbroke it about 3 years ago, so I'm not sure how old the firmware is or whether it needs an update. I did review the Wiki / FAQ / Megathread, but still have questions. Here we go:

  1. Looks like the version of Luma3DS on here is v11.0. Is it worth updating to the latest, which appears to be 13.4?

  2. Are there any other core utils I should be updating? Universal Updater / Checkpoint / FBI? I am still learning what these tools do, since I didn't have to go through the install process for them.

  3. Before grabbing this New 3DS XL for the explicit purpose of modding it, I had (and still have) a regular, black 3DS. This one was not jailbroken, because it was connected to my Nintendo ID, so I only played physical carts and legit-purchased games from the online store. I have two saved games from this 3DS that I would like to transfer over to the XL, if possible: Fire Emblem Awakening, and Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux. All of my other games I either beat or never started, so I don't really care about the save data--but for those two, Awakening has sentimental value (plus some post-game stuff I never finished), and Strange Journey I was like 2/3rds of the way through before I put it down and don't want to have to start over.

Both of them are carts, so is it as backing up the cart save via Checkpoint and restoring it? If I want the cart save but don't want to have the cart inserted every time (e.g. I want to download FE:Awakening and SMT:SJR via hShop to my 3DS XL), do I have to do anything special to make the cart backup save readable by the digital download game? Also, do the two copies have to match vis-a-vis which DLCs I had installed? I know hShop can add the DLCs as well, but I honestly don't remember which, if any, that I paid for.

  1. I am assuming that the only games available on hShop are titles that were offered for sale via the Nintendo eShop? I'm not seeing much of my existing DS or 3DS library, which I had intended to play, so I am assuming I will either need to procure ROMs the old-fashioned way or rip my carts myself? How do the NDS files get installed once I have them (I already have a few I was using with RetroArch on my PC)?

EDIT: All good! Updated Luma3DS. Universal Updater then updated itself...I used it to update all the other tools. I backed up Fire Emblem Awakening and SMT:SJR save data, then ripped the carts myself using GodMode, and restored the save data via CheckPoint to the digital copies. Now I can pick up where I left off on both games without the carts.

8bitdo 64 controller has incorrect default mappings

I purchased an 8bitdo N64 Controller for use with RetroArch (and NSO, but the official selection is rather limited) and tried it out as soon as it came in. RetroArch immediately recognizes the controller, but some of the default mappings when trying to use it within an N64 core are wrong.

  • B is mapped as A
  • A is mapped as a nonexistent button
  • Only one of the trigger buttons gets mapped to 'Z'. The other gets mapped to a nonexistent C-button toggle.
  • Up-Arrow C and Down-Arrow C are reversed. I think it might be due to the default map treating the C buttons as a right analogue stick and putting the respective buttons on +Y and -Y axis.

It took me awhile to figure out what all the quirks were until I fired up a copy of Super Mario 64 where I had sufficient muscle-memory to recognize what was wrong and tweak it until it felt normal.

I can fix the issues via a controller remap profile, although it means I have to do it for every N64 core. Is it worth trying to file a bug upstream to make the default profile for the 8bitdo 64 better? Or is it just a curiosity of how the N64-specific core inputs differ from global profiles and this is likely to persist regardless?

Question about Super Robot Wars T editions

Does anyone know the difference between these two listings?

https://www.play-asia.com/en/super-robot-wars-t-multi-language/13/70cf4z

https://www.play-asia.com/en/super-robot-wars-t-multi-language/13/70cf4v

One of them advertises English and Chinese subtitles, and is cheaper...while the other has actual English box-art and advertises English subtitles, but is more expensive. I'm assuming one is the Chinese/Hong Kong release and one is the SEA release for like Malaysia?

All other things being equal I'd obviously prefer to pay less, but I wanna make sure that if I went with the first option that English language would indeed be an option, and that I can set it as a default so that I don't have to faff around with the menus every time I launch the game.

SRW 30 and Y only have a handful of combo attacks, and they're usually big ones that act like finishers and either suck up a ton of EN or require a bunch of people to get together (ala the Majestic Prince final).

I'd like more small-scale ones along the lines of some of what we got in the OG 1 & 2 games. While we're at it...some other kind of Support System ala Fire Emblem that would reward you for keeping related characters together. It doesn't have to be much: a combo attack for Char/Kamille, or maybe a "rival bonus" for keeping Char and Amuro next to each other. I feel like if the characters are closely related enough that they are alternate candidates for each other's mechs, there should be some kind of inherent bonus/interaction possible between them.

EDIT: Went back and checked OG2. The mechanic I'm thinking of, separate from combo attacks, is Pilot Relationships. Bring those back!
