r/ATLA is Not Allowing Any Posts/Comments Related to the "Leaked Movie"
Prior Announcement was maybe not clear enough, but please do not mention or reference the animated film "Avatar Aang - The Last Airbender" on this subreddit.
There are some fans who are waiting for the official release and before then want to avoid spoilers, discussion/info stemming from the leak as much as possible . r/ATLA has always been stricter on spoilers compared to other Avatar subs, and at least somewhat more accommodating to people who loved the original cartoon but aren't "caught up" on all avatar stories since then.
So we are asking... just pretend the movie doesn't exist or at least never leaked. No minor spoilers, no general thoughts, no rating/reaction, no implied spoilers or including it in broader rankings ... just nothing. Additionally, just to be extra safe , we are going to put a hold on all fanart of the ATLA main characters as young adults (as those may be inspired by movie designs and also may spark movie discussion).
For subs that are less strict on the movie (though still also having megathreads and some restrictions) try r/TheLastAirbender , r/Avatarthelastairbende and r/AvatarMemes
Update on "2026 Movie" Related Rules / Non-Spoiler FAQ & Feedback Thread (Please Read)
Its been a few weeks since the animated film "Avatar - Aang The Last Airbender" (AA:TLA? , idk I'll just call it the movie) leaked and things have settled down a bit so we thought it appropriate to clarify/tweak some policies. In a general sense we are trying to accommodate some discussion of the movie while being considerate of fans waiting for the official release.
A few important notes upfront:
- This thread is NOT a spoiler thread. We want it to open for users who haven't seen the film to comment feedback if they wish.
- Regardless of anything below, the relevant restrictions of rule four (the regular spoiler policy) will apply until a month after the film's official release (sometime this Fall). The rest will last until further notice, and likely at least until after SDCC this July. Additionally the rest of the rules still apply as normal unless stated otherwise.
- Images/clips from the leaked film aren't allowed anywhere on the sub.
- At the moment we have one 'active megathread' that mods will redirect people to. That was titled "Megathread #3" and I'll refer to it as "The Spoiler Megathread".
I) Discussion Policies
A) "Spoilers /Discussion of the contents of the Leaked Movie" are only allowed in The Spoiler Megathread. No Posts, And No Comments in Other Threads.
- Sorry if that's wordy but just want to be clear that covers not just the obvious major plot spoilers, but stuff that seems more minor/vague or ones general reaction.
- Basically if its something you could only know or think through having seen the movie you shouldn't be saying it outside the spoiler megathread.
B) "Official / Verified Info" is Allowed Outside the Megathread Though Still Restricted.
- This encompasses official announcements and tidbits about the films story given/ verified by crew (see) as well as the premise and character/cast list now on places like Wikipedia.
- You can make posts about such info, though it should be spoiler marked just like how preview pages for comics are. Or think of how many people choose not to watch even official movie trailers to try going into the story as blind as possible.
- Likewise, comments should be spoiler marked unless in an appropriate movie related thread where people would naturally expect to see such info. Such as the comments under a post about a movie tie-in book.
C) "Non-Spoiler Leak News/Impact Discussion" is Allowed Without Restriction
- This encompasses reports on how the film leaked, response from crew, discussion of the movie's release strategy, as well as speculation on how the leak may impact Avatar Studios moving forward.
D) Other/ 'In general......'
- Implied and hinted spoilers are still spoilers.
- Do not talk about the movie in old threads.
II) Fan Art
- We are going to allow standard "character art" of members of the ATLA gaang as adults to be shared here without being spoiler marked. Even if a piece may take inspiration from the movie designs.
- That said art depicting specific scenes/moments, or references to lines in the film are considered spoilers and should only be in the spoiler megathread.
- If there is interest, we could make a dedicated megathread for art / other fan works related to the movie.
III) Piracy
- As always no links to piracy sites, or explaining/requesting unofficial means to watch Avatar content.
- In the megathread or appropriate movie-related threads, users can allude to piracy in a general sense particularly when discussing the leaks impact. But explicit encouragement/promotion of piracy is not allowed.
IV) FAQ about the movie
- "What do I need to watch/read before this movie?" Simply the original cartoon Avatar the Last Airbender(ATLA). There are some comics set shortly after the show, and so before the movie, with the most important (in roughly descending order) being The Promise, The Search and The Rift. But none are required to understand the film.
- In regards to ATLA there is no alternative watch order, just watch the 61 episodes in order. Though note some platforms combine certain multi-part episodes.
- "Is the film complete?" Yes, it has been since early March
- "Is the version of the film that leaked complete?" Basically its the full film with nearly everything appearing complete, but some moments may need audio/visual polish.
V) Misc.
- Feel free to comment your feedback on the policies/enforcement and other ideas you may have.
- Some avatar subs have different policies regarding the movie with say r/ATLA being more restrictive and r/AvatarMemes being less, so feel free to check out those and other subs listed on our sidebar.
- You can comment on the older two megathreads (essentially #1 Light Spoilers/ General discussion, and #2 Non-Spoiler Discussion of the Leak's Impact) but we won't be directing removed posts or comments there.
Spoilers Allowed In This Thread (for this story). Please remember to spoiler mark posts/comments about the story outside this thread for a month after release.
