Parents complaining about holidays being expensive in the school breaks

I’ve just encountered a thread on another sub with parents complaining about the cost of booking holidays when the schools are off. Of course holiday bookings are more expensive during the summer break, it is simple supply and demand, but so many people find this unacceptable.

Here in England, parents can be fined for taking their kids out of school for holidays. This is a controversial bit of legislation, but the point is to ensure children receive a full education (even if their parents don’t make the best choices). But whenever this debate comes up, the focus is on the cost of the holiday, not the impact on education. Parents of course just assume the teachers will catch the kids up.

Having children is a choice that comes with responsibility, including lots of extra costs, and ensuring your child gets a good education. Parents thinking they have a right to a cheap holiday, and that that is more important than their child’s education, annoy me so much!

Thank you for coming to my TED talk 😂

Mummy thinks I am too hot, but I refuse to come indoors!

If she doesn’t move in a minute, she’s getting a cool wet towel put on her, which she will not approve of either!

Behold this beauty from my hotel room last night

Based on the numbering, the hotel has at least 200 rooms - I can’t imagine it is only room 127 that has this sign!

My first attempt at using a sewing machine (before and after)

My naughty greyhound ripped up her bed cover, so I set up my new machine and attempted this fix this afternoon!

I accidentally cut a hole in the fabric and one point, and kept sewing bits of the bed together that should not have been attached, but she seems happy enough with the finished result 😂

“Pillow Vibrator” outlet found in my hotel room

I stayed in a Holiday Inn earlier this week (in an accessible room, which might be relevant), and spotted this. Never seen it before - does anyone know what it is please?

The cable housing went up to the ceiling and out of the room over the door. The socket was just below waist height, and next to the reset button for the emergency alarm.

Sounds like it could be fun, but I expect it probably isn’t!

People who take my life choices as a criticism of theirs

On another sub, I have just seen someone be attacked for commenting that they are vegetarian. The commenter, who was just answering the OP’s question, literally said they were not wanting to shame anyone else for their choices. But still, people laid into them - one person said they were a hypocrite for eating plants (??), and that they shouldn’t be criticising others.

I’m a vegetarian too, and I don’t go around advertising this* - it only ever comes up if I am specifically asked my dietary requirements, or if someone sees me order something in a restaurant and asks. I know many fellow veggies, and nobody is ramming it down anyone else’s throats - we’re just trying to get on with our lives like everyone else! Yet a lot of people react to this like we’re trying to criticise and control them, for simply stating in a neutral way that we don’t eat meat.

I also don’t have kids (I’m a middle aged woman), and I have encountered people who take this as a criticism of their children and life choices. Again, not having kids is just a fact of my life, not a comment on anyone else’s!

*yes, I know I am mentioning it here, but that’s because it is relevant to the peeve, and I am not trying to make anyone else become a vegetarian with my post, I promise!

Where is my bruise?!

I hit my ankle hard earlier today with my suitcase whilst getting off a train. I managed to style it out, but it was really painful, and at first I thought I might have cut myself (fortunately I didn’t).

It is still really sore now, but I don’t have a bruise. Whilst nobody really wants a bruise, I do feel I deserve one as evidence of my pain.

Does anyone else ever feel cheated out of a bruise?
