People who take my life choices as a criticism of theirs

On another sub, I have just seen someone be attacked for commenting that they are vegetarian. The commenter, who was just answering the OP’s question, literally said they were not wanting to shame anyone else for their choices. But still, people laid into them - one person said they were a hypocrite for eating plants (??), and that they shouldn’t be criticising others.

I’m a vegetarian too, and I don’t go around advertising this* - it only ever comes up if I am specifically asked my dietary requirements, or if someone sees me order something in a restaurant and asks. I know many fellow veggies, and nobody is ramming it down anyone else’s throats - we’re just trying to get on with our lives like everyone else! Yet a lot of people react to this like we’re trying to criticise and control them, for simply stating in a neutral way that we don’t eat meat.

I also don’t have kids (I’m a middle aged woman), and I have encountered people who take this as a criticism of their children and life choices. Again, not having kids is just a fact of my life, not a comment on anyone else’s!

*yes, I know I am mentioning it here, but that’s because it is relevant to the peeve, and I am not trying to make anyone else become a vegetarian with my post, I promise!

Where is my bruise?!

I hit my ankle hard earlier today with my suitcase whilst getting off a train. I managed to style it out, but it was really painful, and at first I thought I might have cut myself (fortunately I didn’t).

It is still really sore now, but I don’t have a bruise. Whilst nobody really wants a bruise, I do feel I deserve one as evidence of my pain.

Does anyone else ever feel cheated out of a bruise?
