Caught a bit of the Claypool Gold tour. Worst money I ever spent.

Drum solo feedback please

Doing my first solo at a big funky rock show next week (Primus cover band), what’s your overall feeling on this? Trying to fine tune it. I know it’s still sloppy towards the end.

What I’m going for: a 6/8 base that morphs into a few different forms, switching from a straight to a swing feel throughout.

Stop tossing good food: New California law rewrites 'best by' and 'use by' rules

These are just a few of the phrases you might have seen on your food items:

  • Use by
  • Best by
  • Expires by
  • Please enjoy by

Each phrase can convey a different message about the food product. These meanings however, are often not conveyed to the consumer, who may unintentionally contribute to food waste by disposing of food they believe is spoiled.

Californians toss out 2.5 billion meals' worth of unspoiled food each year, contributing to organic waste that accounts for 48% of what residents send to landfills, according to the California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery, or CalRecyle.

To remove the ambiguity and resulting food waste, Assembly Bill 660 was signed into law and goes into effect July 1. Here's what the bill will do

Will this eventually cause back problems?

I’m new to wilderness backpacking. I’m 45 and have worked as a landscaper my whole life. I’ve not met anyone who has about this so I thought I’d put it to this community: is it a known thing that this will eventually cause back issues? And if so, what preventative or corrective measures are you practicing?

I know gear is getting lighter all the time and I do try to carry the lightest load I can, but it’s still a considerable strain on the back and I’m just trying to stay informed.

Many thanks!

Is this any different than theism?

If so, how?

“The programmer didn’t necessarily create the universe.”

Well, yeah, they did. By definition. Maybe not the universe in which they find themselves. But our universe they did. They can always be a higher level in a fractal model. Maybe the God of our universe is not a God of the Multiverse, etc.

IQ84 - spoiler!

Did anyone else feel like they were led to speculate a couple things that didn’t end up happening? False foreshadowing?

  1. That when they finally met, Tengo’s sex with Fuka Eri would come to light and Aomame would have a difficult time with it, considering that she just murdered the girl’s father for sleeping with young girls. Although I know that she’s technically an adult.

  2. Ushikawa would catch up to them and Aomame would end up having sex with him (because she likes misshapen heads and we know he’s attracted to her), which Tengo would have a difficult time with.

Also, it just dawned on me what a great, yin/yang couple that is. He’s a writer and mathematician - the mind. She’s a fitness instructor - the body. Masculine and feminine principals. But looking deeper they both have both qualities - he teaches math, but also writes fiction. She heals the body, but also assassinates.

How much of your solos are meticulously scripted vs just flowing?

Don’t believe in Gods but believes that we live in a simulation. Gotta love the paradox.

Sub-irrigating a lawn?

I just learned that this was a thing. Considering doing a 12” grid with Netafim and add soil and sod on top. I thought drip emitters easily clogged when buried though. Have you done this successfully? And by successfully, I mean it still worked well after several years.

Moving to Chengdu to live with my partner since my American job is being automated by AI.

Trying to get my teaching certification now and wondering if anyone has opinions on a good institution to teach for. I’ll be living in Chengdu.

Alright lads, help me track down this groove that’s been stuck in my head for weeks. I feel like it’s from some early Claypool project but I can’t place it. Goes something like this.

So I’ve been working as a freelance land designer for farms and homesteads. I have rudimentary skills in QGIS. Always been fascinated with by LiDAR, photogrammetry, and the like.

I’m considering getting some sort of certification to become a professional in the geodetic engineering field. Is this something that can be got independently without a college degree? Are there any online courses you would recommend?
