Renter friendly solution

So I’m relocating and had to rush to get an apartment, definitely want to setup some security and recording in the apartment building to be able to see packages and so on while away from home.

I want a camera that works with HomeKit , doesn’t require drilling ( and with my line of work I may relocate quite often so cams with adhesive may be cumbersome at some point.

I see that ring has peephole cams , and even aftermarket brackets that clamp on the door ( and even one that has a indoor hardwire option)

From what I see the aqara cams are good but seems like there’s no similar functionality that works well for rentals.

Anyone else been ima. Similar situation and how did you go about it ?

Only internet provider in apartment building- discernity

So I’m moving into an apartment building and this is who they have some sort of deal with and these are the only 2 plans offered.

One would be $57 monthly ( extra $7 to be able to plug a physical connection in the built in router) , the other $85 ( included ).

As a single person with occasional guests which one would be a better option?

And the router is built into the apartment, I was hoping to setup a wifi mesh and configure a main and guest wifi but not sure what the best option here would be.

I know this has some subjective aspects, but what would you recommend or do in this situation?

Edit : looked into the 5g home internet plans ( t mobile, Verizon, att and mint … and none are available for that address)

Apartment Rentals in north east Dayton

Relocating to Dayton very soon from PA and spent all day today looking at apartments ( checked out over 10 ) and I need some help.

All I see are super bare bones studios or overpriced 2 bedrooms going for 1700 + fees , I saw a 1 bedroom for nearly just as much , I’m single and no pets and good credit and all but the few 1-2 bedroom apartments priced at 1300 ish had month of not year waitlists.

Hard to find subleases , and I don’t know anyone I. The area. I start a job in 2 weeks and I’m stressed out having to move and settle before I do so and then not have time to do anything.

Does anyone have any connections or advice, pls share , thank you in advance.

I have a 2020 Toyota Avalon hybrid limited
And a iPhone 17 pro max ( iOS 26.4.2 (23E261))
And I use the anker type c to type a wire

Recently it’s been driving me crazy because I’ll plug my phone in and nothing will happen other than my phone will start charging, CarPlay will not start up no matter what I do, a few days ago i updated iOS and that solved my issue temporarily and now it’s all the same

I’ll restart the infotainment system, my iPhone , forget my car in the settings, disable and enable CarPlay for both , disconnect and reconnect the car … idk what else to do to get this shit to consistently work

Has anyone had a similar issue in a similar vehicle and how’d you solve it ?

Hi , sooo I’ve been wanting to make a homelab for a couple different reasons but not sure how to go about it and what I need.

So I have

- a old 2015ish MacBook Air with a broken screen ( type c ports only )

- A 2017 macbok pro ( type c ports only )

- a raspberry pi 4

- a thinkcenter ( minimum specs but i upgraded the ram to 32 gb of ddr4 ram and windows 11 pro)

- a old windows surface laptop ( cheap 8gb of ram)

-old iPhone 8 or se

-flipper zero

Some things I want to get into is setting a home server, learn and apply virtualization, have a somewhat portable smart home setup that I can control smart devices from in an apartment setup ( where shared WiFi might get in the way of that ) , learn and connect to some level Mac , Linux and windows, which ip kvm to get for remote access.

Some things kinda holing me back is the networking devices and which brands to go with( ugreen , ubiquity, Alta or unify some other stitches , routers etc ), which nas storage , all the different softwares ( proxmox , VMware , kubernetes , blah blah blah )

I live in a very small area so I don’t even know if I should go for a mini 10in rack that might need a 3d printer ( which I don’t have) orrr a 19in 4 or 6u rack .

So much variables and and I know I’m overthinking all of this , but I live in a smaller city so not easy to brainstorm or connect with other honest to get references , the more I research online the more expensive and things I havnt thought of come up.

I know it’s a continuous process and ideally I start and as I need things I should add on but I need a bit of guidance

Background I’m a recently laid off GRC person that wants to get more exposure to IT and practical uses out of a project.
