Pond doesn’t seem ready

I just received my first ever medaka in an overnight shipment but I guess I miscalculated the cycling time needed for my mini pond. Photos of my pond parameters included. I just did a 30% water change too so that probably helps but I haven’t retested. I am currently acclimating the fish to one of my aquarium although this is not ideal at all.

Fish will be delivered today

I don't think I can pretend that I don't detect any ammonia. The pond has been running for 3 weeks.
My fish come in today. I have tanks I can put the fish in but I was really hoping I wouldn't have to acclimate them twice.

My old lady Opal

She is biscuiting herself to sleep. She is so happy to have me finally in bed with her. I have been running around doing chores and very active today. She mostly sleeps all day but gets a little anxious if I’m still doing things into the evening. She really needs her time to settle down. I tried to get her settled with my partner, which she sometimes does gravitate towards him, but tonight she was not settling until I settled.

Plants and lots of tannins

MacGyvered my potted plants into my mini pond today. I didn't want to fill up the water column with bricks and stones to hold up the plants. I wanted to leave as much water space as possible. So l wrapped the pots with strips of chicken wire and folded the wire around the rim of the container. I added some aquarium sponge between the pots submerged in the water. Then added moss on top of the sponge with hopes that it will wick up and also act as filtration when it rains🤷‍♀️

Violets!

Took me a couple days to gather up 6-8 cups of flower. Did a 24 hour steep. I’ll add the sugar tomorrow. But I must say I love the color I got from this batch💜

I can’t keep more than 1-2 leaves

What am I doing wrong? I’m relatively new to SH but I’ve had some plants take off and look great, while I can’t keep more than 1-2 leaves at a time on this frydek. How can I grow a stronger root system so it can support more leaves?? I feel like I may be missing some fundamental knowledge about how to semi hydro lol

First weird egg

I know it’s nothing to be concerned about, but I’m genuinely curious. Is it like a calcium deposit? Too much calcium?

I’m gunna need a bigger boat

I haven’t even starred my little pond yet and I’m already feeling like I need more space. Story of my life.

Yikes! Uuum guys?

Admittedly I haven’t opened my bin in a while.

Any idea what the heck this fungus is? It has little liquid droplets on it almost like honeydew or something.

Obviously I need to add cardboard, and what isn’t cardboard, fungus or worm seems to be all castings.

Any advice or respectful criticism is welcome and needed. Thank you

Post 1 of 2 PHOTOS of Chick in Question

Hey follow fowl people.

I have 9 new chicks, 2 batches that are a week apart in age. They are growing fast and clearly establishing the pecking order already.

The Dom in question is quite a bit more aggressive in establishing dominance than I remember chicks of this age ever being.

They are an EE, still a chick with fluff but adult feathers growing in fast, and the Velociraptor genes are strong with this one. They size up, duck the head down and charge the others. Mostly to corral and dominate the others. But I’m a bit concerned about the behavior. We hold and socialize multiple times a day.

This post is just photos of the chick in question.

Please observe the legs! The other EE doesn’t look nearly as large and her tail isn’t as perky. I will make a second post with a video.

Hen or Roo, and should I be concerned?

RIP Pharaoh

~RIP my boy. You served us well~

He gave his life this afternoon protecting his ladies. He was a pain in my ass but he did his job well and I am grateful. I can’t think of how to repay his sacrifice, but I will in time. He deserves the respect I gave him. All my girls are safe in their run now.

A large bobcat. At 3:30 this afternoon. I haven’t been able to stop crying until now. I didn’t let it take him. He fought for them with his life which is exactly what I knew he would do.

We are in the process of building a walk in coop and huge run but it’s not finished so we still free range while we’re outside with them. I’m still in shock that the bobcat came up that close with me 20’ away.

I’m still in shock. But I wanted to pay tribute to him because he deserves a medal of honor in my book

New Pygmy Corydoras

Thoroughly enjoying watching these little guys explore their new home. They are quickly learning the high flow of the tank and the resting spots. They were even trying to school with the embers. A few of them discovered the pleco on the other side of the tank too.

Terminology in the estrangement world

Hi everyone. I just recently discovered this sub and I am so thankful for it. I’ve just been lurking and reading your experiences, relating and reflecting on my own.

There is some terminology or abbreviations that I’ve come across , most of which I was able to figure out.

NC - No Contact, soft contact, low contact, etc.

And I believe I understand what a “flying monkey” is when I think about it in context.

What are some of the other abbreviations and terms that I’ve come across that I didn’t understand?

I am almost 4 years NC with over a decade of on/off before that. I am still navigating the relationships with the extended family

I’m not really sure where else to post this, but I purchased some ostrich ferns a couple years back and planted them on my property with hopes of harvesting them once they spread. My property is dense forest and wetlands so I thought it would be a decent spot for them. But they have hardy spread.

The earth is very damp, rich and dark but basically all tree roots and mycelium. Are there just too many roots that are strangling them out? Should I move them to a fluffier area where they can grow more?

Photos 1 & 2 are my ferns. Photos 3, 4 & 5 are the areas they’re planted and my woodland property

Hey Rock Stars!

I found this while doing some yard construction. The outside looked like, well, a rock, but when I tossed it into the rock pile it cracked open. I cracked it a few more times and it breaks open easily leaving very clean, sharp edges. My partner thought there could be fossils in it. WhatsThisRock?

Share your old lady torties with me please.

Opal, my 12 year old lady went in for her check up and boosters today. She did so well. My partner happened to take the day off and came with us. She usually cries the whole way there and then mentally exhausted on the way back. But having us both there really seemed to reassure her. She was sticking like glue when we got home.

She has feline herpes virus and has had chronic upper respiratory issues her entire life. The flare ups come and go, but have been getting worse as she ages. Her canine teeth have extended over the past year due to the respiratory (inflammation?) issues.
One tooth is actually wiggly. They will send the outrageous estimate for feline dental extraction in the next day or so. Can't wait to see what that looks like.

I guess I'm not ready for her aging but I have to accept her for who she is and continue to give her the best life that she deserves
