Pinless Peeper recommendations
I ordered them for my dom hen Gravy (Barred Rock) who has been being a jerk to the newbies. We tried putting them on today but I felt like they were hurting her so immediately took them off. There is a possibility that they weren’t hurting and she was just annoyed and trying to shake them off. I even googled the interior nasal passages and sinuses of a chicken and didn’t love it.
Then I went back to look at the product description to double check and realized the English translation is ridiculous😂 It says chickens up to 4.5 lbs so are they maybe too small? I don’t know how much I should even trust the size description at this point. See photos.
Any recommendations for a brand to buy that won’t hurt my girl?
Stage Coach Mary Shoutout
She’s always been one of my favorite badass women of history.
I have a chicken that looks like David Byrne and I love it
I've always loved the Talking Heads so I have been pleasantly surprised to watch her develop this awesome little hairdo. She is also quite an oddball and seems to be very independent and content being almost outside of the flock. She is obviously part of the flock and accepted, but she really tends to happily do her own thing.
I need more Tortie Beans in my life Please
Please share the beans. The cuteness gives me a little serotonin burst💥
Edit: Thank you all for sharing with me. This is my favorite sub for a reason. You are all so kind, respectful and generous. Opal and I appreciate you all
How are they staying up there, and how did she get them there?
Medaka mini pond
I know this isn’t ideal for carnivores, but honestly the waste from the fish is so minimal that I’m just enjoying it for aesthetics.
5 months of patience, Day 1 with Shrimps
Someone tell my partner that I DO have patience and this proves it. Dry start in the beginning of March and today I finally added shrimp.
New cameras installed and I have questions
Anyone else’s chickens sleep with their heads dangling down like this? At least 2 of them do it.
Also, all that work building this nice roosting area and no one is using it?😤
Tips for integrating new members please
I think I’m doing everything right but my Dom hen is being a B*tch. She’s constantly chasing and plucking tail feathers out whenever she can. The poor babies have like PTSD. I think she’s trying to prevent them from getting near the feeders too.
For context, I have 3 ladies (1.5years) and 8 babies including a young roo (13-14 weeks old). The roo is almost the size of my Dom hen, and he has squared up with her a couple times but runs away quickly.
What I’ve done:
Kept them separated but able to see each other through the wire for weeks.
Introduced for short periods of time and then separated again to give them a break.
Just built a new large coop big enough to accommodate a large flock. We just moved the older ladies in a few days ago, while the babies were being kelp in the same new coop but separated in their brooder jail.
I have put the Don hen in time out twice in the chicks brooder box. The other two ladies are civil and not being relentless.
What else can I do? Any other tips would be greatly appreciated

Heater for New Water system?
We finally have our new waterer set up and all are using it! It splits with 4 stations inside and 4 outside in the run. I’m pretty proud of it.
Any recommendations for a heater when the winter weather comes? Submersible? Wrap-around?
Sorting tiny magnets by color
Highly recommend these for folks with ADHD and/or Autism
Integrating the youngens
Working on small introductions. We have 3 ladies and 8 new adolescents, including one young roo.
Gravy, the Dom Female and the roo are about the same size at this point. They have squared up and he went running with her tail between his legs. I’m hoping she and the other ladies can teach him how to be respectful.
RIP Dumpling
I found my poor Buff Orpington Dumpling dead in the run this afternoon. I have no idea what happened. She showed zero signs of illness or injury this morning or yesterday. The other girls are completely fine. She was only 1.5 years old. My best guess is she had a heart attack or something similar.
Are heart attacks common in certain breeds or larger birds?
Rest in Peace my sweet girl.
Faucet at our campground
Moose or reindeer? Either way, he’s a goofy confused fella
Is this really a hen?
My other Easter Egger turned out to be a roo and he’s already rehomed. But this one is just so big and her feathers are really filling out
