No visibility on wet pavement

I’ve written KYTC already about this and asked for a reply- but that was 2 months ago. They have yet to respond to my inquiry.

Why in the hell do we NOT have reflective lane makers and striping on our roads and highways?

You can buy the damn glass beads they put in the tape or paint at a hardware store, so why can’t KYTC use them?

It is impossible to see lanes in the rain slicked pavement at night. If I didn’t know these roads well, I’d be in a ditch. Tonight going to SDF I saw a person get “lost” on the double lane exit from 264 because in the rain they thought they were in a driving lane (?) instead of an exit. They were almost hit by another car.

Anyone here have an ear in KYTC? What is the deal? For the sake of public safety!

For a friend

These are my friend’s grandmother’s end tables from the 1920s. Her mom currently owns them and wanted them fixed up. One table had the finish failing the other was scratched by probably children and had two cigar burns. I am a hobbiest refinisher and I told her I would try my best. Her mom wanted something as close to the original finish as possible.

Stain recommendations

I am restoring two end tables for a friend. They belonged to her grandmother (1920’s Phyfe style). The veneer is mahogany, the sides are solid mahogany.

I’d like to tone down the red and try to be true to the original color. I will be finishing with shellac in clear.

The first photo is the stripped top, the second the unfinished top with the original color.

Suggestions for the tone/color of stain?

Thanks.

Looking for insight

My good friend just gave these to me to refinish. They were her grandparents end tables and they have seen a lot of use.

Has anyone had experience with these “claw” feet? Are they brass? Should I bother trying to polish?

Also, does this look like veneer to you all? It’s covered in failed shellac, and my friend said they are probably from the 1920’s. That would track with the types of screws holding it together.

Thank you.

Prospect expanded downtown plans

This was interesting. Looks like they are going for a Norton Commons Look.

Also, after the flood of 2025, the subdivision of Ken Carla almost slipped off the cliff-like banks of Harrods Creek. The gunnite bank repair is just gross.

1840’s gentleman’s hankerchief dresser

I just finished this lovely, except for the feet. I wanted to see it all together first. Ready for the next 187 years. Before and afters.

I had no idea that catfish would strike a spinner bait (Mepps 3 Aglia). Nice 14 in fish. Second catfish I’ve ever caught in my lifetime. Did the cute fin wiggles and squeaking for me while I let him go.

I took a great bike ride down 4th yesterday and these houses stood out to me. They face each other, are all the same construction and if I had to judge the age based on materials and style, maybe late 1930’s or 40’s?

There was another “court” of houses on the opposite side of the road, dark brown brick, farther down the street. I really like history and was so wondering if there is any interesting info about them.

This is near the intersection of 4th and Bloom, just outside of the UoL campus.

I bought this piece from a furniture refinisher who had too many projects. I am a hobbyist, but I learned everything I know from watching my dad restore our 1910 house over my childhood. I just wish I had a full wood shop so I could do all the repairs as well. However, this might be from 1840.? and if it is, it is in ridiculously good shape. I removed the failed finish and the original stain and these photos are one coat of tung oil. I will let that cure for a week or longer and then finish it with a poly acrylic in matte clear.

These are progress shots.
