(FWI) What if Trump gave the command

The man is unhinged, there is no telling what he might do.
One evening while sitting up in bed, he might decide that its time to nuke Iran, he’s losing the war and needs to show he’s not beaten.

He has the codes, there will be a ( long ? ) chain of command all the way down to the missilemen in their bunker who will turn the key to launch.

This seemed an impossible scenario a few years ago, but I’m not sure it is now.

My question is this, if he gave the command, would the rockets launch or would someone in the chain of command realise that this would be madness and put a stop to it ?

Is every politician and soldier going to unwaveringly follow orders ?

According to property listing portal Rightmove, it takes on average nearly six months (170 days) to complete a property sale across the UK. How can this be ?

I’m in the middle if a house sale at the moment, and while desperately hoping it wont be 6 months, there does seem to be weeks where just nothing happens.
It’s hard to guess where the bottleneck might be, both my buyer and I are keen to get things swiftly sorted and do all the things we need to do immediately. But still time ticks on. There must he a better way ?

EVs in the Algarve

Having just returned from a holiday in the Algarve I thought it might be useful to others who are heading that way to flag up a couple of things.

Firstly some of the big hire companies have some great deals on EVs at the moment, we got a Citroen Aircross ( it had done 31 kms ! ) for around £130 for a week, on a par with similar ICE cars. It looks like the manufacturers are using the hire companies to shift stock.

Although this might sound attractive there is a big downside. Although we are often complaining here about EV charging prices, at least we have a pretty good infrastructure in the UK. That was not my impression in the Algarve. Firstly there are virtually no rapid chargers, so you will be spending some of your holiday time sitting charging at 22kw. These are scattered around and there are often just 2 posts. Google maps is best for details.

We did visit the Tesla charging station ( open to all ) at the Loule shopping centre outside Faro - I think it may be the only rapid chargers in the area, but the queue for it was perhaps a dozen cars, so we didn’t bother.

We ended up returning the car at 40% charge instead of the mandatory 80%, but Europacar charges €35 penalty for that, but TBH thats little more than it would probably cost to recharge anyway. It was just not practical to return it to the Airport at 80%.

In conclusion - nice hire deals about, if you will be low mileage ( to and from villa for instance ) its OK but if your stay requires higher mileage and some recharging, it may just be not worth the time and hassle involved.

3D printed part ?

I borrowed an underwater housing for my CS, but after a couple of days use the latch broke into several pieces, probably by misuse TBH.

The housing is out of stock. I was wondering if this would be a candidate to be 3D printed but could find no files on-line.

Any ideas how I might go about this ?

Pipe lining

Has anyone any experience of pipe lining companies ?

The inflow to my septic tank has become less than watertight, and during very wet periods rainwater gets into the pipe and so into the tank. This is quite a short piece of pipe but is over 6 foot deep so would be a ball ache to dig out.
I’m wondering if pipelining might be the solution but googling just brings up many generic national companies who are difficult to choose between. Any thoughts ?

What is it about tv presenters and their glasses ?

do they not realise that bi-focals and vari-focals have been invented ? On Off On Off.

The worst was Kirsty Wark, now Anna Botting and Victoria Derbyshire. Victoria got into a right old tizz tonight on Newsnight, couldn’t find her glasses and mis-read a newspaper headline.

Why do they make it so hard for themselves. Vanity ?

Ida

Despite having an ID3 for 9 months, I have never used IDA, because I was happy I didn’t need it, but mostly because I didn’t know what it could do.

Do people use it, and what for ?
