I just spent 3 hours in No Man’s Sky with my Dream Air. Chef’s Kiss

I just wanted to express appreciation for this experience that is only made possible because VR is maturing and finally getting really really good. I have had a dozen or so different VR headsets at this point and some were pretty comfortable. The Dream Air is the first headset I have ever worn for 3 hours without any discomfort.

I am currently using the studioform kit and a $20 quest 3 strap that I cut to fit the Dream Air soft strap connectors. This setup allows me to just keep playing for hours longer than I used to. The only reason I stopped was because it was time for bed.

The second thing I want to express appreciation for is No Man’s Sky. I don’t know if there is another company that has brought a flat screen game to be fully playable in VR and just as easy to play as it is in pancake mode. Also with multiplayer where you can play with and invite friends or meet up with strangers inside the game at the “Anomaly.”

I decided today to finally get what I need to visit purple star systems. This is after 60 hours of playing the game on and off throughout the years without actually advancing the story at all. I got everything I need now so next session I can look for planets with deep oceans, gas giants, and other interesting planets I haven’t seen yet. This game has come so far since I first played it in VR and I am excited that there is another big update coming. The amount of freedom you get to explore is insane.

The Dream Air really makes NMS a complete jaw dropper. I was never able to run NMS at max graphics and full resolution on really any headset. Now that the Dream Air has the SBOYS3 driver with FOV Cropping and SteamVR native Motion Smoothing to lock my frames at 45, I can finally max out the graphics and the resolution. The results are stunning to say the least. Just watching the sunset on the one planet today with the sharpness and colors really made my day.

Hardware:
5090
9800x3d
64gb ram
Dream Air LH
2 base stations 2.0
Index controllers

My Rig is Finally Complete, let me know what you think.

My rig is finally complete, I made a post that instantly got removed by mods and I'm not sure why? I had links to everything I bought, maybe that's why...

Anyway, here is a list without links to everything that is on my rig.

  • Simlab GT1-EVO
  • Eracing Labs RS Mega+
  • NRG-FRP-301 bucket seat
  • Sensit MTC-P Seat Haptics
  • Simagic Alpha Evo Sport
  • Simagic P700 Pedals
  • Simagic Pedal haptics
  • Simagic DS-8X shifter
  • Simagic TB-1 Handbrake
  • Etsy 6.8 inch dash with streamdeck mount
  • Triple Hisense U6 55 inch mini LED TV's
  • Simfab Triple Monitor Stand
  • Samsung Soundbar with Subwoofer and Soundbar shelf for on top of TV
  • Race Bear bezel free kit

I made a short video to show you of the rig in action but I won't link it here because I don't want the mods to remove this post again. If you want to see it let me know and I'll send a link in the comments. My youtube channel is not monetized and I have like 8 subscribers so I am not trying to promote anything.

I bought back in, 1500 shares.

I have been investing in SOXL since 2021 but never held long term. Recently I have been selling cash secured puts to slowly average in but I just wasn't getting assigned enough shares. Every time the puts would go in the money we would get a bounce. Well I closed all my puts for a decent profit and bought shares today. I am now sitting on 1500 shares. My gut tells me the $90s was the bottom.

This time I am in for the long haul. I made a decent amount of money both times SOXL dipped below $10 in the last 2 cycles. Both times I should have never sold. Hopefully we don't get a massive dip right after I threw in $200k. Cheers and good luck to everyone!

New MagGod 4.0 is amazing, one small problem I'm having...

The new MadGod modpack is great and I finally get solid FPS with my Pimax Dream Air. The only thing I need to change in the settings is change the DLSS to "balanced" then I can get a solid 45fps locked with motion smoothing turned on.

The problem is every time I change the setting to balanced in the in game menu, it reverts back to DLAA 1.0 as soon as I go through a door or into a new area and go through a loading screen. It does this even if I click the save icon in the menu. So right now I am bringing up the menu and changing to balanced after every loading screen, it's not a great experience this way.

My Omen 45L fans are running at ridiculously loud speeds even during sleep.

I have an Omen 45L with a 5090 and an ultra 9 285k. An error popped up that says CPU fan inactive, but I don't have a CPU fan, my pump and radiator fans are obviously running because my temps are under 65 degrees during heavy load. Ever since that error popped up, the fans spin at near max speed at startup and its not until I launch the Omen gaming hub that the fan speed finally gets controlled by my settings and lower down to normal speeds. I turned off the setting to monitor the CPU fan in the Bios and it quit giving the error on start up, but it now just throws the fans to max speed.

I think I'm just gonna buy a 9800x3d with motherboard and ram bundle from microcenter and a new case and power supply and just sell this thing with no GPU. I have had nothing but problems since I got this PC over a year ago.

This 3d printed facial interface for the Dream Air is transformative.

I had a BSB2 face cushion from studio form laying around because I returned that headset after I bought it. I 3d printed this interface and stuck some velcro tape on there. https://www.printables.com/model/1761888-pimax-dream-air-quest-pro-style-facial-no-metal-br

My Dream air was already good but this significantly reduces the glare while simultaneously increasing the sweet spot. Pimax really needs to rush the production of a better facial interface or maybe even offer the Studioform guy a contract to include his kit in the box.

Is anyone using the GripVR controllers from shiftall with the lighthouse Dream Air?

I currently have 2 sets of index controllers and I am thinking about selling them and buying some GripVR controllers. I just want to make sure they work with the dream air and that the experience doesn’t have any problems with game compatibility or anything. Thanks.

I picked up a Dream Air today at Microcenter, gonna sell my Super Micro OLED.

Microcenter had the Dream Air LH version in stock so I decided to drive there, 90 minutes each way, and grab one. I have been using the Super Micro OLED and prior to that the 50ppd. Here are my initial thoughts.

  • Visuals between the Super Micro OLED and Dream Air are identical or at least close enough that I can't tell a difference.
  • At first I was wearing the Dream Air wrong and I had a lot of discomfort and light leakage, the bottom strap goes on the back of the head while the upper strap goes more towards the top.
  • The Dream Air build quality is pretty nice actually, both the Super and Dream Air have better build quality than my Crystal Light did.
  • The Dream Air seems impossibly small and light compared to the Super, when you swap between them it is a very large difference.
  • The Dream Air allows me to move my head left and right without wobbling the screens around.
  • I am very happy to have light house tracking and index controllers again, way better than Pimax Slam and Pimax Controllers. I will probably sell my 2 sets of index controllers and get the grip VR controllers though.
  • Controllers and Base stations connected just as fast and easy to the Dream Air as they did with my Valve Index.
  • Audio on the Dream Air is good, better than Quest 3, but not as good as the DMAS. I wish it got louder.
  • The Cable on the Dream Air is much thinner and lighter than the cable of the Super.
  • Having the SBoy3 native SteamVR driver is amazing and was super easy to install. I am able to lock smart smoothing at 45fps in Skyrim with Madgod Overhaul and other very demanding games like No Mans Sky. This is a gamechanger.
  • The headset gets warm, but nothing I was worried about after 2+hours straight in Skyrim.
  • 2+ hours straight is something I haven't done or been able to do without neck pain in a very long time, This is the only reason I wanted to switch to Dream Air and sell my Super Micro OLED. Maybe I will finally get to level 60 in Dungeons of Eternity.

In my honest opinion the Super an awesome headset and so is the Dream Air. Personally I am not really able to wear the Super for long sessions so I will sell it. I also wonder if I will still get the newer improved face gasket from Pimax. I also wonder if they still plan on releasing a better strap with deluxe audio for it.

Omen 45L dropping ethernet connection while gaming, once or twice a night.

I have an Omen 45L that is plugged directly into my Deco 7 router. Every night at least once while I am gaming I will lose my ethernet connection and I have to unplug the cable and plug it back in to get it working again. My ISP has come out and changed the 4 year old mesh system they had to a new one about 3 months ago. It didn't cut out anymore for about 2 months then it started again and the ISP told me there is no way it is the new Plume system, so I unhooked it and bought a Deco mesh router system last week. Well starting today it is doing it again. Ethernet drops out 1-2 times at night when I am gaming. Does anyone have a clue what to do to figure this out? I am on the phone with my ISP once again to try to get this figured out.

Etsy Bezel Free Kit vs. Race Bear (Ali-express)

As you can see the Etsy one lets less light shine through. This causes darkened areas under the lens. The race bear one lets way more light through but you get a visible rainbow effect almost like chromatic aberration or something.

I just got the race bear kit today, it is much higher quality material, metal rod on the back to keep everything stiff. The race bear one it almost twice as wide as the Etsy one.

I think I like the race bear one better. I know my screens aren’t 100% perfectly aligned, but they are 55 inch TVs, so it’s tough.

Side note: my rig is done! Just need to finish up cable management and I will make a post showing what I have.

Can’t get pedal haptics working in simhub.

I have the p700 pedals with haptic reactors and I tried both plugged into the wheel base and plugged directly into usb hub and both ways simhub can’t find the device. Under devices it says “searching for device.” If I try to add it under shake it motors it says “disconnected.” I have been trying for days with no success. If I use simpro software I only get clutch haptics in FH6 and nothing on the brake or throttle. I tested all the motors in simpro and they all work on the test.

Just ordered a simagic set up, should I be concerned about game compatibility?

After ordering a simagic simagic alpha Evo sport and a wheel I googled “simagic Forza horizon 5” and came across all kinds of mentions of things not working. I play just about every game out there from hardcore sims to simcade, if I can’t play all games it’s a no go.

RS50 is great but lack of wheel variety makes me want to switch to Moza

First let me say my rig is built purely for immersion and fun purposes and not perfect lap times or becoming the next Max Verstappen. I have the RS Mega+ motion system installed and I love it. I also have the Sensit seat haptics on order.

I've had an RS50 for a few months and overall it's very good. I hated the tiny little wheel it comes with though. So I was using a simpush 330mm wheel I got on ebay that bolts right on to the RS hub. It worked well for a while but yesterday my brother in law really manhandled it and it broke. It had some 3d printed components so I can see this wasn't an option long term.

I also bought an RS hub and put a big 15'' wheel on it that I was gonna use for truck sims but with it having zero buttons it is basically useless for that.

Which brings me to why I am considering switching to Moza. Basically the new Moza Lamborghini wheel looks amazing and its 340mm which sounds perfect for me. Also the Truck wheel and multifunction stalks look amazing for ATS and ETS.

Are there any reasons I should reconsider? I know I will lose Trueforce, which I really do enjoy, how does Moza compare in the immersion department as far as the wheelbase goes?

I was thinking R9 witch the 2 wheels I mentioned plus the stalks and either Moza pedals or something else if there is something more immersive yall can recommend.

My son has had bad psoriasis on his scalp, knees, arm pits, and other areas for years now. His scalp and knees are the worst. We have been trying every cream known to man for the last 2 years and decided that when he became old enough to take a biologic that we would go for it. His dermatologist let us know a few months ago that they lowered the age for a few medications to 4, it used to be 6. We were under the impression that he would get a shot maybe once every few months or something along those lines.

We did not realize that this medication would be a weekly shot administered at home by us. I don't know if this is something I'm going to want to do every week to my 4 year old. Does anyone have any experience in this matter?

I am so tired of this damn HP 45l. XMP simply does not work. Every time I enable it I have several weeks of no problems then all of a sudden it won't boot until I pull 3 of the 4 rams sticks and boot it, turn off XMP, reinstall ram, then reboot. I have done this about 5 times.

I just want a better case with better cooling for the CPU, but I want to be able to reuse as many parts as I can.

Can anyone tell me if they have done this and if it's worth it? Alternatively I will just leave XMP off indefinitely. Even though my temps could be much much better in a proper case.

This thing is definitely better than the QLED 50ppd. VR feels so immersive and being able to crank the graphics and still get good performance is amazing. The sharpness definitely seems a bit higher than the 50ppd now that I have used it more. The smaller FOV really doesn't bother me much after not using the 50ppd for 2 days.

One issue I have had twice now is a random black out of the displays. Everything went black and I thought my computer crashed so I peaked out under the nose gap and saw my game was still running. About 10-15 seconds later the screens came back on and the controllers vibrated like they were reconnecting. Everything was fine after that. This is a bit concerning because it has now happened twice and the 50ppd has never done that.

I think I need to find a new face gasket to get my eyes to the perfect distance. With the studioform one I'm using there are a few pressure points on the nose and around my eyes. I think a thin yet semi-firm face gasket might be better than this super squishy one I am using now.

Skyrim and No Mans Sky are so damn atmospheric in this headset. Just looking at the sky and feeling like you are actually on another planet is mesmerizing. My left arm is currently in a sling so I'm super limited on what games I can play right now but so far I am very impressed.

I received my Micro OLED module yesterday and I tried it out in 3 games: Skyrim with MGO modpack, No Mans Sky, and Dungeons of Eternity.

First let me say that my IDP is 65 and I had to set the Micro OLED module to 67.5 to be perfectly aligned withe the sweetspot or center of the lenses.

Lenses

Every micro OLED headset I have tried, BSB2, Galaxy XR, and Super have tiny little pancake lenses. I know that the actual displays are tiny so huge lenses wouldn't really be possible. The lenses of my 50ppd and my Q3 are superior to the lenses of all 3 of these headsets. I don't know if my super 50ppd is a representation of the average lenses you would receive if you order a 50ppd or if I hit the lottery, but mine are spectacular.

I think with the bigger lenses you get a bigger sweetspot and less color shift on the edges. Although on the glass lenses you do get chromatic abberation which is something that never really bothered me.

The Super Micro OLED lenses are the best lenses of any Micro OLED headset I have tried. The galaxy XR has decent lenses but many other issues that resulted in me returning it. The BSB2 lenses were not good and I could not see myself using that headset long term.

There is a decent amount of glare but its not an issue in game. The worst case scenario for glare is when the Hello Games white letters pop up when loading up No Man's Sky. In that scene the glare of the Super is really bad but then it just goes away completely when I'm actually in the game.

There is also brownish color shift on the edges of the lenses and I haven't really come across a scene where it's a problem. When I pull up the browser on SteamVR desktop view I can see it if the website has a white background, but only if I look through the edges of the lenses. This is not something I would be doing very often so I don't have a problem with the color shift.

Comfort

This module is a bit lighter than the QLED one but I would say the difference is negligible. One issue that I have is that I can not get my eyes close enough to the lenses because my nose touches the bottom of the Super Module. I think this is a pretty big reason to go with the Dream Air instead of the Super Micro OLED.

In general though the Super is pretty comfortable and I have no complaints other than nose touching the bottom.

Colors/Brightness/Sharpness

The colors of the Micro OLED module are better than the QLED but not by much. Black levels are much better especially because local dimming on the QLED is garbage even compared to how it was on the Crystal Light. Pimax needs to allow people to completely turn off local dimming on the QLED because it's broken and creates a halo around every object you see.

Brightness is dimmer than the 50ppd but much brighter than the BSB2 with no persistence issues. Perfectly acceptable to me.

Sharpness is equal to or better than the 50ppd. I love the sharpness of these headsets and it makes it tough to use anything with less pixel density.

Performance

This is the most important part. The Micro OLED module requires 20% less rendering to display native panel resolution. When setting the Micro OLED at 1.0 in the quality settings, it renders at 5424x53**. I can't remember the last two numbers, but it is about 29 million pixels. The 50ppd requires about 38 million pixels to display native resolution at full FOV. Of course the 50ppd can be set to narrow and you can even use cropFOV mod to reduce the FOV further and get better performance. Using the narrow setting for me doesn't create enough of a performance gain to play NMS on ultra or Skyrim with MGO mods. I have never tried the Crop FOV mod.

In No Mans Sky I now have FPS in the 60s and it is playable just like that with every setting on Ultra. On my 50ppd I was in the low 40s and could not play like that. In Skyrim with MGO modpack I am in the 50s which is playable compared to the 20s or 30s with my 50ppd. If we get the Sboy3 native steam driver for the super micro OLED then I will be 100% satisfied with the performance because motion smoothing will make everything playable at full res.

Controller problems

I am currently having issues with my right thumb stick but overall these controllers suck. They float off, they track like shit, the rumble is lame.

I have my LH faceplate coming soon* and once I get that and the Sboy driver I will be set for a few years.

My recommendation is if you have a super QLED, sell it and grab a dream air or try to stick with the QLED module and use the Crop FOV thing. If you have a 4090 or below don't even bother, get a Crystal Light instead.

I got my Micro OLED module today and I'm super excited to test it, but as soon as I put turned on my Super, with 50ppd still in it, I noticed that I couldn't turn in games because the right thumbstick wasn't registering. I tested it in steam controller testing and the right thumbstick registers that I am pressing up when I press left, down when I press right, and doesn't register at all when I press up or down directions. The thumbstick click button still works. I wrote to pimax in my ticket, but I wanted to see if anyone here has a quick answer so I can get to testing my new module asap!
