Hope to start with USM coming from T-Mobile 55+ plan

T-Mobile 55+ plan going up again. Rather than a long diatribe, I will keep this succinct.

Two lines. Unlimited talk and text. The data used since January only shows a couple of months getting close to 6GB, but did not hit 6. The rest of the months are low. I don't know if this is considered high speed data or not.

I was paying $70 taxes and fees included. When I chatted, the rep offered what's called experience signature 55 plus. The new price would have been $82 he said with taxes and fees not included.

I ask for some kind of discount and he was able to give 6 months promotion at $72 a month. I don't know if he was correct with the taxes and fees added because I was not paying them before.

A couple of Reddit people suggested I asked for the essentials choice 55 plus plan which is $60 per month auto pay plus taxes and fees probably coming to about $72 a month for two lines.

Would unlimited flex be a good choice or perhaps pay by the gig which seems like it would be cheaper for the two lines at either 5GB or 10GB data? What's the difference between unlimited data and and 10GB high speed data?

Should I go with the Light Speed as T-Mobile has worked very well for us the entire time we have been using it? We travel at times on i-95 from Maryland to New Jersey.

Samsung S22+ phones unlocked.

55+ plan with T-Mobile increasing

I just checked my current bill.

ONE Plan Unlimited 55

$80 a month with autopay discount $10

Total bill = $70 which includes taxes and fees.

The current plan includes Apple TV which we do not use, mobile hotspot not used and Canada and Mexico which we do not need or use.

It has Wi-Fi calling which we use periodically.

I just checked the total data used.

May -June 5.65GB used.

April to May 3.9GB used

March through April 5.68GB used

February - March 2.3GB used

January - February 20 4.69GB

On June 30, I received a text stating:

T-Mobile: Starting 7/13/26, your current phone plan is being retired, and you will transition to a modern plan with enhanced features. Phone lines increase up to $6 per line per month.

Rest assured, you’ll keep your current benefits, plus we’re adding more benefits and improved service experiences. Moving forward, you also get our 5-Year Price Guarantee. Review your updated plan details: https://secure.t-mobile.com/fU2fbxCIe4b

My wife and I do not need Netflix, hotspots, and probably unlimited data not needed as we are mostly on Wi-Fi except when traveling on the interstates. You can see how much data we use above which is very little.

When I called to discuss the current changes, the rep talked about transferring to Experience Signature 55+.

He said the new bill would be $82 per month which included the $6 per line increase. I asked about any discounts and he said he could offer the 6 months at $72 a month as a promotion. I asked about 12 months and he said they could not do that after supposedly checking. He said taxes and fees would be added which could make the monthly price higher. Currently, I don't have taxes and fees added.

I've heard the prepaid use the middle of the cell towers but not the top. Is that correct and what does it matter?

We both have unlocked phones. Suggestions welcome! 🤔

55 + plan being stopped

I just found out that my 55 plus plan for two people is being stopped and done away with. I was paying $70 a month which included taxes and fees.

A new plan is called the experience signature 55 plus plan and will begin on July 21. T-Mobile was adding $6 more per line making the total price $82 plus taxes and fees. I was chatting with a T-Mobile rep who said the total price with the fees and taxes would come to anywhere between $90 and $95 per month.

I said I am a senior I fixed budget and what else could he give me. He offered a 6-month promotion of $10 per month which puts the final monthly tally at $72 per month not including taxes and fees.

I requested a 12-month promotion and he said he would check and got back and said 6 months is all that he got offer. I could check back every couple of months online and see what else might be available.

Am I getting the best deal for 55 plus through T-Mobile or is there anything else I should be looking at?

I don't want to switch to Consumer Cellular if they're going to slow me down during different times of the day. They do want for a $50 a month AARP senior plan for two and that includes fees and taxes I believe.

2005 Corolla engine sound

2005 Corolla LE 230k miles.

It's been going on for years and several mechanics said they can't hear what I'm talking about.

The engine sound will increase (louder) for about 5 seconds and then go back down to normal sound. This will keep repeating.

It doesn't matter if I push on the gas or not. Going down a hill, for example, no pushing on the gas, it will up and down engine sound.

Any idea what this sound could be? It worries me as I'm driving because I certainly don't want the car to fail on me.

Little Buddy getting some food

This was shot through a window screen so has not to scare Little Buddy away.

A squirrel proof bird feeder was put up before the neighbor put up the fence. The fence gave Buddy the launching pad that he needed. He's so cute! 🥰

NOW at 100 Mbps

I have the NOW plan with 100 Mbps for $30 a month, and it works great. Netflix and YouTube will sometimes show Wi-Fi disconnected and have a small buffering issue because the Wifi has cut out.

Would moving up in speed help this disconnect problem? I have turned off the wifi and the TV and reset, but it will still do it. Usually, once I restart and go back, there is no problem.

Would going to the 200 Mbps plan help my problem? I don't even see that the 200 Mbps plan at $45 is offered anymore. Thoughts?

Older Oreck XL and vinyl floor

I have been using my older Oreck XL for both carpet and vinyl floors. I don't notice any scratches on the vinyl floors. Am I good to continue? Not really an issue, but I had to pick a flair.

I was going to get a cordless stick vacuum for the vinyl, but I thought why do that if the Oreck looks like it does the job.

Bifocals, single lens and driving?

I don't want progressives. Let's leave that out of the equation.

Here's my prescription:

Right sphere -0.25, cylinder +0.50, axis 180, add +2.50

Left sphere -1.75, cylinder +0.75, axis 145, add +2.50

I would be fine with a single lens for distance especially for driving. Would the speedometer be blurry to the extent I could not read it? I'm at least a foot away from the gauges.

Currently, without glasses, I see the speedometer fine.

Bifocals...

How does that work if I want to have the distance and be able to see the speedometer as I do now?

Daytime driving is pretty good. It's the nighttime driving where the tail lights are blurry and harder to see in general along with halos.

Thanks for your help. 👏

I'm thinking of just getting a single lens for distance and using readers for close up.

How do others do with driving and seeing the gauges at least being able to read them to some extent?
