Progress on my 1480s kit
This is my first making plate armor my aim is to make a 1480s italian man at arms kit, every thing I am wearing besides the doublet, the boots I made in my backyard. By the picture I looks more like 1530s than 1480s because of the cuirass, I plan on making a more traditional italian style breatplate later, and honestly because it just looks kinda bad and not very accurate. Next I plan on doing some floating arm armor a new cuirass and tassets and when my sallet arives a bevor.
Effigies and armors catalog
I am working on my 1470s men at arms armor, already know about the armor in art website is there more resources like this?
What evidence do we have for one piece vanbraces
By one piece I mean that don’t have hinges and are made of a single plate, it could be totally enclosed or with the insides of the arms exposed
How much would those swords be worth in total?
I found this pack selling only for about 1200usd is it worth it?
My new mod is just released!
Magistralis adds a complete set of classical columns, capitals, bases and entablatures so you can build temples, forums, villas, and monuments, in big and small variations, both sizes have the guilded variation, there is also various styles of columns.
(There are many more features planned)
What model for my mod is better in your opinion?
Previously I made a model for the columns and capitals for my greco roman building mod, I reduced the polygons a lot from previous iterations, what looks better the 4 sided version or the octagonal? To be locked by the "vanila plus philosophy", I am more interested purely on what looks better.
You can’t eat armor!. Me: “Hold my beer”
Disclaimer:
Almost no actual food was wasted in the making of this meme, the tomato sauce was old ketchup I found o my drawer, the basil is just a random leaf from my backyard, and the cheese is some very cheap cheese not actual parmigiano.
Should this be more low poly?
I am making a mod that adds greco roman architecture columns etc, to Minecraft, should my models have a lower poly to fit better in minecraft or this is fine?
Adding necessary nuance to the "Dark ages myth" when in regards to science. part 2 Now including the Arab world.
I feel like in a attempt to revert what some of the 18th and 19th century notions of how "Dark" were medieval Europe, specifically regarding scientific production, I have seen a claims on the internet that the medieval times were just as productive as the classical period, or that the instability and later fall of the western empire didn't affect scientific discoveries. So I downloaded Charles A Murray's database and did a graph to analyze those claims. The graph quantifies the number of works by notable natural philosophers, that appeared in >50% from the 163 Histories Surveys Analyzed by Murray. There is a caveat that I need to add here, the 163 Histories Surveys that were used were made by modern historians, so they probably are biased by modern perceptions of scientific history. And of course this graph does include the Arab world, and china or India.
With all of that cleared it is obvious from the data, that scientific advancements took a big hit during the decline on of the Ptolemaic decline on the second century bc, and later because of the crisis of the 3rd century. And it basically disappeared after the 6th century in christian countries. Only to return in the 11th century, leading up to the renaissance. The main thing is that categoric statements about the entire 1000 years of the medieval period are always wrong, I would have no problem in calling the period of 600-1000 AD "Dark Ages" But after that things were very comparable to the classical period the closer it gets to the 1400s. However I would be very cautious when correcting the dark ages myth from public perception to not end up going too far.

How much did the rise of Christianity contributed to the fall of the west?
When Theodosius started his anti pagan laws, most of the population was pagan in many places in the empire, this very likely caused a lot of infighting and probably did not help with the manpower problem the military was suffering, those things culminated in the Battle of the Frigidus were a pro pagan usurper fought Theodosius. This damaged, a lot the military of the west, that latter could not stop the crossing of the ring some 20 years later. There are in my opinion much more relevant reasons why the west fell like the 3rd century crisis, and the change in the climate that led to the Germanic migrations, and the succession problems, but I noticed that some people claim that this very big change didn’t affect at all to the decline, I have seen some people even say that it would have fallen much earlier if it wasn’t for Christianity, what is the consensus about this topic between historians?
Cardiophilax worn over hamata?
Both armors existed in the same period, there is reason to that since mail does not stop everything, and since equipment was not standardized before the “Marian Reforms” is there evidence this ever happened? Even if there isn’t I bet someone did it.
The Classic Mac Pro is surprisingly powerful even today: 5,1 (almost maxed out) vs M4 Max
Comparing my M4 MacBook Pro, with a M4 max 16 cores 36 gb, vs a 5,1 with 2 Intel Xeon x5690, a rx 5700 xt, SATA ssd (not nvme yet) 64gb.
I am quite impressed by those results, even though the Mac Pro got destroyed on the benchmarks, It got surprisingly close on a few tests, and even beaten the MacBook on twinmotion, and in many games its quite close, it lost when frame generation is on because my gpu probably doesn't support it.
Considering that one if from just about 2 years ago and the other is a almost 17 year old computer, and that one costed 3500usd and the other can bought and upgraded by less than 1000 usd, this shows that the Mac Pro is not dead yet.
