Best Merino Wool Underwear for everyday use/hiking?

Hi there! So I am looking to purchase some merino wool underwear. I have worn merino wool for hunting and think it’s truly worth the investment. But I’ve never owned a pair of underwear in merino wool.

Looking to wear them everyday and also use for hunting/hiking. Anybody have any recommendations? I own darn tough socks and love them. I love the socks and their warranty. Is there anything out there at all like darn toughs lifetime warranty? I doubt it but doesn’t hurt to ask. Thanks!

Student discounts that actually help a household

So my wife is a school teacher and MUST go back to college to get her masters degree.(It’s a requirement in Massachusetts) So we own our own home and have our typical bills but figured we would take advantage of her being back to school and take advantage of student discounts. Does anyone have any recommendations on some that could actually save us money for our household? It’s all remote so she is doing it from home and working. She has already changed our Walmart Plus membership to student. That saved us $75 for the annual membership. And gets 10% off at Shaw’s grocery now. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated Thanks!

Does it make sense for us?

Hi there, I’m considering on getting solar for my house in the somewhat near future. I was looking at Tesla Solar because we also own a Tesla Model 3.

Our situation

Roof: 11 years old but did come back during house inspection to be in good shape

Location: Massachusetts

Electricity Provider: Eversource

Usage: Anywhere from 600 kwh to 1000 kWh monthly. (Summer is higher due to A/C)

Price: $0.15 per kWh $250-$400 monthly

Not sure if it makes sense in our situation to even consider solar. I know people have much higher electricity bills than us. But, Eversource has been increasing rates once maybe even two times a year. I’ve also heard that if we get a power wall than we could qualify for a 0% Mass HEAT loan but not sure how accurate that is. If anyone has any insight especially in Massachusetts, it would greatly be appreciated! Thanks!

Is Tesla Service really that bad? Technical issue with power steering.

So my wife has a 21 Model 3 RWD. It’s been getting an alert for lane departure assist and steering assist reduced once in a while. Recently I drove it and the power steering completely turned off. After parking the car and resetting it was just fine.

But I’m looking to book a service appointment with Tesla just for them to diagnose. I would be using the service center in Providence RI. Are they really that bad? I’m hoping my wife can just go and get it diagnosed same day and HOPEFULLY get a loaner if they even do that. I’ve heard sometimes they do. Any ideas on what to expect or has anyone had the same problem? Any insight is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I feel like the minority with the refreshed CSP

So I honestly feel like I’m in the minority that I actually think the refreshed CSP is a win. Coming from someone that is loyal to Hyatt, the rest of the refresh is great I think. Upping the annual travel credit to $100 and adding the TSA pre check credit is a win as well! I’m still going to be keeping it in my arsenal of credit cards. I actually think it’s got better as a travel card. But yes the downgrade of the Hyatt transfer is not great.

What do you guys think? I think im very much the minority but I only travel once MAYBE twice a year so it still works for me.

My MIL always trying to gloat about my BIL

So I’ve made a couple of posts in the past about my MIL and BIL. But this week has been quite comical. I just have to share it because my wife and I are the complete opposite of my in laws.

Anyway, we never gloat about ourselves and I was always raised that it’s disrespectful to ask about what other people have or make for money or to just talk about it in general in a show off type way.

My in laws LOVE doing this. So recently, my wife and I were out with my MIL and she brings up my BIL. My MIL, looks at me and says “did your wife tell you how much (blank) makes?” At this moment I’m kind of shocked at the sentence and the fact that this is even a conversation. I reply “No, it’s really none of my business.” She proceeds to tell me anyway. Keep in mind, both my MIL and BIL any chance they get share how successful he is and that he makes so much money.

I’m not going to share specifics but basically it was an average salary in today’s world. After her comment of sharing, all I said was “good for him”. I really wanted to say “that’s it? That’s what you guys are constantly gloating about?” But I didn’t really want to start anything at that point in time.

Fast forward to today, my BIL purchased a camper and my MIL started sending my wife pictures of it saying how big it is and how expensive it was and what not. My wife couldn’t care less honestly and it pissed off my MIL. She then shares that my BIL overdrafted his account because he put $1k on a credit card and paid it in full.

My MIL says to my wife, “ who do you know that could put $1k on a credit card and pay it off.” My wife couldn’t help but respond that that’s not a ton of money and that we both have credit cards that we pay off every month.

Sorry I know it’s probably not the craziest story but I have countless other stories like this that we deal with on a normal basis. I’ve dealt with FAR worse things with my in laws but this is a constant pet peeve of mine because I was raised to not at all be that type of way. Thanks for reading.

Best 0% card to get to pay for college.

Sorry I didn’t use the template. The current situation we are in is that my wife is a school teacher in Massachusetts and is required to go back to college and pursue a masters degree to keep her job.

We are currently searching all of our options. We can pay for her masters program out of pocket but would rather not take a chunk of money out to pay for it.

So we are looking at a balance of $12k for her total masters program. Our options are either take the federal loan and pay it overtime at our leisure but have interest.

Pay a monthly payment plan with the school. Would be $600ish a month and a finance charge of $25 a semester.

Or we were considering getting a 0% intro APR card for maybe 12-18 months and pay that as we go. My wife and I have both great credit. She’s at 770 score and I’m at 805 score. We currently each have the Chase trifecta but we’re looking for any pointers on 0% cards. Wouldn’t be opposed to business cards either since I have a business credit profile with Chase. Any help is appreciated it!

Buy the base game for 5.99 on sale on Xbox? Or wait for the ultimate edition to go on sale?

So as the title says, which one do you guys think? So COTW The Angler is on sale right now on Xbox for 5.99! Ultimate edition is still at $66.99. Yes it does come on game pass but I like to purchase games I really like so that in case it gets off game pass I can still play it. I did the same with COTW the Hunter. I purchased the ultimate edition of that on a really good sale.

So in your guys opinion, should I just purchase it at the sale price of 5.99 or is the ultimate edition THAT worth it to wait for a sale? Thanks!

Elk Hunting Preparation

Hello everyone! I am looking to start preparation for a bucket list hunt of mine. I have always wanted to hunt for Elk in Montana. I recently visited Montana for a vacation and now it has lit a fire in me to start preparing.

I am looking to do a guided hunt for bull Elk in Montana within the next few years. I’m hoping to start preparing now rather than later so it’s not as costly upfront but also so I am physically prepared.

Some background about me:

I live in the northeast and have hunted for about 5 years. Still fairly new but have a decent grasp on hunting as a whole. I’ve hunted upland, waterfowl and whitetail in my neck of the woods. Also a little bit of rabbit hunting.

I’ve hunted with bow and primarily shotgun due to my neck of the woods not allowing rifle hunting. So I have zero experience with rifle hunting.

I am 27 years old male 6’0” tall and weigh about 210lbs. I’m looking to start preparing physically because I have read and heard that it’s a lot of hiking/backpacking and I want to be in the best shape I can be for this hunt.

The overall planned hunt:

As I stated earlier in the post, I’m looking at Montana bull elk hunting with a guided outfitter. I definitely DO NOT want high fence. Not sure if that’s popular out in that area but I have zero interest in that. (Not throwing shade to anyone who is into that) I would like to go for the challenge of naturally tracking and harvesting an elk. I am open to either rifle or bow but leaning more towards bow hunting.

If anybody has any piece of advice or gear to start allocating I would greatly appreciate it! Or even personal experiences with outfitters or just hunting elk in Montana in general. Again this is a couple years out so I can start planning accordingly. Thank you!

Under Canvas West Yellowstone Review: Great Time!

So I wanted to post my review about our stay at Under Canvas West Yellowstone. I know this isn’t a “Hyatt” property but it is a Mr. & Mrs. Smith property and we were able to book our stay through Hyatt with points.

The property is located just outside the town of West Yellowstone in Montana. Right when we drive onto the property, you are welcomed with a breathtaking view of the mountains. The tents are situated in a big valley between the mountains. One of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. The Madison River was also on the property behind the tents where it’s an easy walk where you can just sit or lay in a hammock and relax.

So we booked a “deluxe tent”. This tent has a bathroom with a pull chain shower and sink as well. Ours also had a king sized bed and a wood stove with plenty of firewood and fire starter supplied. It also had 2 charging banks you can use for your phone or lanterns that they supply. The tent was great and would be more considered “glamping”. My wife and I stayed for four nights and had zero complaints. I would totally recommend spending the extra points/money for a deluxe tent. Remember it is still camping so you would have to walk to the showers/bathrooms in the middle of the night if you had a basic tent. Also, ask staff to grab a warming bottle for yourselves at night. It’s a huge help and can get quite cold at night.

The staff were on site 24/7 if you needed them for anything at all. They were super helpful in anything that we needed. The pull chain on our shower broke and when I brought it to their attention it was fixed right away.

Some things to do on property were some kids activities that were planned through the day. They also have a restaurant on site which I heard mixed reviews about. We did not end up eating there.

There’s also a concierge to plan activities. We booked horseback riding through them but it was through a ranch that was about 30 minutes away from Under Canvas. While it is extremely convenient to have them book the activities, I realized after the fact there’s quite a surcharge for doing that. We did our horseback riding with Parade Rest Guest Ranch.

Booking through Under Canvas it was about $100 a person for 1 hour. Booking directly with Parade Rest Ranch was about $65 a person for 1 hour. Just something to keep in mind.

We also did fly fishing through Madison River Outfitters. Great time and we booked with them directly. Again about $100 less than booking through Under Canvas.

The Under Canvas property is about 10-15 minutes away from the West Yellowstone entrance so that is nice to be away from the town but also close enough you can come and go as you please.

I would definitely stay at Under Canvas again in the future. My wife and I had a great time. Definitely a great place to get into nature but also have some decent amenities. Any questions feel free to comment!

Looking to DIY this before calling a plumber

Any tips on how to fix this? It only leaks when the washing machine is draining. I’m quite handy but don’t have alot of experience with plumbing. Any idea how easy of a fix this is and does anyone have any tips? Thanks!

EDIT: So I’m definitely just going to call a plumber and get this done right. No I did not do the previous work, and yes I know it’s a nightmare down there. I appreciate everyone’s comments. Even the funny ones you gave me a chuckle.

Well…. My truck blew up. Mechanic made a mistake

So as the title says. My ram 1500 blew up. Purchased a 2010 Ram 1500 with the 5.7 hemi about 2-3 years ago. Paid really short money from a co worker of mine for it. Been driving it and put on maybe 10k miles on her. She just hit 280k miles original engine.

So last weekend, I was pulling into a parking lot. As I turned into the parking lot, I lost my power steering and thought, “oh no, I lost my power steering and when I tried to give it gas I realized the truck died.

After it didn’t start after many attempts of diagnosing it in the parking lot. Got towed to my mechanic. He tells me the timing chain let go and sends me pictures of where it was rubbing overtime and then broke and other parts that were broken because of it.

He pulled the valves and said they looked great. Gave me a quote to replace the timing chain and getting back up and running. I agree to it.

Fast forward two days later, he calls me and says the engine is no good. He says because he misdiagnosed the problem, he is swapping the engine out for another 5.7 hemi with about half the miles that my original engine has.

He says I have to only pay for the parts that he originally quoted me and labor to swap those parts. So basically, I’m getting a different engine and free labor to swap it over because of his mistake. He’s is also putting the new parts he ordered for the timing on this new engine to ensure it lasts as long as possible,

He’s been an honest guy in the past when he’s done work and feels like he messed up and wants to make it right. I was very bummed at first but I feel like this is a blessing. I truly love the truck and I hope to have many more miles with the new to me engine.

Auto Refi Please make this make sense

So I am currently financing a car. Purchased it with a 72 month loan at 7.01%. 45 months left and was looking to refi my loan. A local credit union offered 5.1%. I did the math online with an auto refi calculator and confirmed the balance left on my loan. Everything looked like it made sense. $17k left on balance. 450 a month is my current loan.

Dropping almost 2 whole points, I figured this was an absolute no brainer. I go to the credit union and start the process. I throw out to the person assisting with my refi that I would be interested in doing a 36 month term even if I paid more monthly to shave off almost a year considering my current loan.

I was estimating to pay about 75-100 dollars more a month because of shortening the term and a significant interest rate drop. She runs the numbers on her side and she says “great, we can do 36 months at 5.1% for 625 a month. I’m shocked at how much it went up. I tell her that’s not at all what I was expecting and she then offers 48 months at 550 a month.

I’m shocked at the monthly payments and confirm all the terms with her including the 5.1% interest they’re offering along with my loan balance left and she was adamant that it was correct. So I told her to forget it because I’m not going to extend the loan and also pay a higher monthly payment. It wouldn’t make any sense. I asked her multiple times to how this made any sense and she didn’t have an answer.

I’m honestly so confused because I do a lot of research and also take my finances seriously. This is my first time attempting an auto refinance so I am new to it. She could not give an explanation at all as to why it made sense for the payment to go up 100 a month while extending the loan by a few months and having the interest rate drop that much. If anybody has a better understanding that could explain it, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Today I caught my first trout on my fly rod! After grinding multiple spots out near me that are stocked with trout, I finally landed this little guy! Thanks to everyone that responded to my previous post on me being super discouraged that I couldn’t even get bites from trout. Caught this stocked guy at a pond with a green wooly bugger. Fought him for what felt like 5 minutes. I know he’s not at all big but I am super pumped! Looking forward to catching more! Thanks again to everyone that helped me in this sub! Good luck out there everyone!
