Driving

Has anyone here gotten adaptive driving? I know a friend that drives with hand controls. There’s a rehab rehabilitation driving place near me that requires a physicians referral. I’m wondering if it’s worth a try my CRPS is just in my legs most recently spreading to my right.. as of yesterday I’ve started to have spasms in my right leg that doesn’t cause it to move. It just gets stuck with the toes curled under, but I do worry about driving safety and no longer want to drive with my feet. As I don’t feel it is safe.

I’m just worried my doctor’s gonna think I’m a weirdo if I reach out and ask him. Like I feel like only paralyzed people use them.

Treatments?

Okay where is the best of the best? I’ve had it since 2013. It’s spread to the right toes to hip. 9/10 pain most days. I’m ready to give up walking and switch to the knee scooter.

I’ve tried all the traditional things. Meds and infusions. Nerve block and scs. I see there a place in Florida that seems to ketamine coma. That seems dangerous. But where else? What else?

What about sphero clinic? I’ve always thought it’s a scam but at this point I don’t care. I’ll try anything.

Thank you

I just wanna say thank you to everyone in this group. I have been posting a lot and you guys have been so kind and supportive. I feel like this is the one place where I am understood. It helps me to feel less alone. It’s been a while 48 hours for me.

I ended up trying weed, it’s legal where I live, for my pain. Instead of finding peace, I found panic. Not realizing I had a deep trauma buried in my brain. With the first time I got high. That plus the pain had me struggling and just wanting to give up

Now it’s a new day and I feel so much better. Pain is 9/10. But I decided I’m not gonna give up. I don’t care if I’ve been looking for treatment for 13 years. I’ll keep looking. I’ll give ketamine another try. I’ll travel wherever it takes.

But seriously, thank you to everyone in this group. For when I’m hopeless or feeling alone, this is the place I know I can come to you for understanding.

Unlocked memory- not sure how to go on

I have debilitating chronic pain. Last night out of desperation I tried a gummy I was with friends. I immediately hated how I felt. My boyfriend came over. I texted another friend and my therapist during a panic attack. It brought back a memory I blocked out.

I remember the first time I was raped. And I remember thinking I was drugged. last night confirmed that feeling. When I was raped as the exact same feeling. I hated it. I don’t know if I can send it to getting high or not. Or if it was more than just weed. But now that I remember it, it’s like all I can think about. I just don’t know how to move forward. I don’t know why that little difference means so much now, but it does.

I see my therapist this afternoon. Has anyone dealt with this? I thought I wanted all my blocked memories back now. I know that I don’t.

How are we staying alive?

You were all probably so sick of seeing my millions of posts in the last few days. I am so sorry to keep posting. I just feel like I’m losing my mind. The pain is so intense 9.9 out of 10. Is that the point where I’m failing the mask entirely. People are asking what’s wrong. I don’t know. I have this condition that you’ve never heard of. That’s trying to kill me. And at first, the painter just spread them out right leg halfway on my knee down to my foot now it’s slightly above the knee. Halfway up my thigh.

I know I’ve had it in the left leg for 13 years. So I don’t know why this feels so much more intense and unbearable. But how the heck do we stay alive through this? How the heck do we work through this because I don’t know how to do this. Right now I’m sitting in the parking lot of a cannabis store about to go get wheat for the first time with my friends cause I’m so damn desperate. If someone offered me something stronger, I’d probably try it. I’m losing my mind and I know I shouldn’t use substances but I think I would try about anything. I just don’t know how to live with this.

Emotional rollercoaster?

Does anyone else struggle with regulating your emotions? I was diagnosed with mental illness for years. Turned out the psychiatric medication’s were making things worse for me personally. I’ve been off medication now for 10 months and symptom free.

I’m not saying I haven’t had struggles. But nothing that would qualify for a diagnosis. Now that the CRPS has spread I find myself struggling so greatly. The signs of depression. But in some moments I’m okay. I’m able to pray and trust that God will use this for good. I know he will carry me through. And then others I’m begging him to heal me or take me. It can change in hours and completely relates to my pain levels.

I’m in therapy and plan to bring it up tmr. I’m just exhausted. I don’t want to go down this road again.

How are we coping?

I got it when I was 14. I’m 27. It’s spread. I didn’t walk on my left leg for five years because of it. I did Cleveland clinic children’s pain program at 17. I did children’s specialized hospital at 19. I’ve done every treatment. I’ve tried everything. I even lowered the pain levels of my left leg somehow. That it was manageable. No meds or anything really I just learned how to cope with it. Numb to it.

Now here we are within my lower right leg and foot. I find it hard to concentrate went out with friends because the pain is screaming at me. I find it hard to force a smile. I find myself so irritated by the little things. I just want people to understand that I don’t think they do. This is so much worse than any other chronic pain. I don’t say that to dismiss the suffering of others. But to wish they would understand. I want to run. It’s what got me through. Now here I am recovering from ankle surgery and tore my calf. I can’t run right now. If a doctor offered to amputate it today, I would say yes. Though I know it wouldn’t help most likely.

I don’t wanna go through this again. Not being able to sleep through the night because of pain. Trying to find a pain doctor. Trying to find a physical therapist. Trying to find someone that will help. I just don’t want to do this. I want to live my life. I need to live my life. There’s so much good but this is stealing my life from me again. And yet I have to pretend it is it. Pretend that I’m totally fine when I’m not.

Doctors

Well, it’s 3 AM and I’m currently been up for an hour. It seems to always wake me up. I realize last night that the reason I can’t sleep under the covers is the blanket. It feels like it’s crushing my leg. Something light and air feels like 1,000,000 pounds.

I CRPS spread my right leg recently after another surgery. I did the pediatric pain programs when I was a kid. No matter how messed up they are it worked for me. So I’m trying to do the same thing just push through the pain. But I don’t know sometimes I wonder if there’s new treatments or things to try.

Any doctor or places you recommend in West Michigan?

Is it back.

I had chronic exertional compartment syndrome years ago. I had a release and all four compartments on both legs. A month ago I had surgery on my ankle for a modified Brostrom procedure and then I had a gastroc release. I was two days out of the boot weight-bearing when on Wednesday I took a step and felt a huge explosion in pop and 10 out of 10 pain couldn’t walk on it for 3 to 4 days. I still can’t tolerate the boot. And this is what my leg looks like now the tightness is so extreme. And it was right after surgery as well. I cannot walk normal without feeling what seems like small tears in my leg.

Do you think the compartment syndrome could be back? I’ve never had bruising like this before granted I’ve usually torn tendons not my entire calf muscle lol. I really don’t wanna undergo that painful test again. I feel like it’s only in one of the four compartments as well. all this bruising is new. It did not come from my ankle surgery.

I should add that when I walk within minutes I get a pressure bill up that feels like it’s gonna explode again.

Devastated: Accepted a full-time nanny position, but just tore my gastrocnemius. Do I step back before starting?

I need some honest advice from fellow nannies.

I accepted a full-time nanny job caring for a 1-year-old and a 3-year-old in a two-story home (children's bedrooms are upstairs). My plan was to leave my current full-time school job (which pays about $1,000/month). I was set to work a trial/transition day on August 21st, and then start full-time on August 24th.

I was already recovering from ankle surgery, but I was fully weight-bearing. I reassured the mom I’d be fine despite a minor limp. However, on Wednesday, I felt a pop and severe pain. My PT originally thought it was just scar tissue breaking up, so I told the mom yesterday I was still good to go.

It turns out it wasn't scar tissue—I found out today I tore my gastrocnemius (calf muscle). Honestly, based on how severe the pain is and the fact that I can’t bear weight on it right now—even with a walking boot—I’m worried it might be a complete tear. In theory, these can sometimes heal with conservative treatment, but in my past experience with ankle tendon tears, I’ve always ended up needing surgery.

Carrying a 1-year-old and managing a 3-year-old up and down stairs in a two-story home while unable to comfortably bear weight feels nearly impossible and potentially unsafe for the kids and myself.

I feel like I need to make a decision by Monday so the family has enough time to find a replacement before my start date. But if I back out, my only backup is staying at my school job for $1,000/month.

I wanted this position so badly, but I’m starting to feel like God is telling me it’s just not meant to be right now.
What would you do in my position? Would you be upfront with the family on Monday and step back, or try to push through in the boot? Any advice or perspective would mean the world.

gastrocnemius tear - recovery?

Anyone ever tear their **gastrocnemius?** I was 4 weeks out recovering from a brostrom procedure and gastroc release. When pop and I guess the doc says it’s torn. They said I can try weight bearing in the boot but it hurts so bad. Anyone ever get this? What was your recovery like? Not looking for medical advice just curious about other experiences.

Calf injury?

Hey! I hope this is okay to post here and couldn’t find anywhere else. I had a brostrom procedure done and gastroc release all on July 8. Since then I’ve struggled with a super tight lower calf muscle. Yesterday, I was walking and felt a huge pop/explosion. Immediate 10/10 pain. I could no longer walk. It swelled a bit but no bruising. I see the doc tmr and want to request and mri. It’s been 24 hours and hurts even to the touch without weightbearing.

My pt thinks I broke up old scar tissue from a previous surgery. My doc thinks I just tore the calf muscle. Is towards the left of my calf but back and up about halfway. Anyone else ever do this? I was weightbearing. I need to be walking for my nanny job in 2 weeks.

New middle school coach. Advice?

Hey! Thank you to everyone that helped me for my interview. I am now the new middle school cross-country coach. I will be getting another coat hopefully for the boys. What are your tips and suggestion suggestions? Books to read? Movies to watch? Podcasts to listen to?

I want to do everything I can to make this experience fun for the kids. I really want to help them be a team and bond. This is a lower income school, but we have good resources. A lot of our kids have a history of trauma. I also want to be a good coach, but I don’t want it to be all about winning. It’s middle school. I know it’s not that serious.

Any tips for things they could do outside of practice together? Is it weird to create a Strava group for them? I’m not sure with that age group. I’m thinking practice three days a week. How rough do you think it will be that we don’t have any hills nearby to run on for practice?

I’m working on making cute friendship, bracelets for the boys and girls if they want them. I want to write each kid a card welcoming them along with maybe some electrolyte mix granola bar, and candy in a little baggie with the bracelets for them.

I also plan on working with them on their grades. In college, the team’s competed to see who would have the highest GPA. Is there anyway I could apply this in a middle school level that that’s less intense?

Also, does anyone do fellowship Christian athletes with middle schoolers? We have it at the high school level and we are thinking about adding it to middle school.

Faux stain glass - materials?

Hello! I have fallen in love with faux stain glass. I am having so much fun with it. I think it’s time I want to upgrade my supplies.

What brands do you recommend for paint and other tools? I use gallery glass for now. But I like to do a lot of people and struggle with the faces. I currently put the gallery glass and a paint pallet and use a toothpick to get around the small detail details. Is there any other brand you might recommend that can give me a smaller fine line? Is there anything else you recommend in addition to the paint? Any tools?

Brostrom recovery - 2.5 weeks out

I’ll add a picture with everything I had done to my right ankle. I was cleared to begin attempting weight-bearing on Friday. I was transitioned to an air cast boot. That night at 3 AM ended up in the ER for the pain being a nine out of 10. The ER dock was kind enough to give me some payments to get me through tomorrow morning. But I don’t know what to do. I don’t know if this is my CRPS pain disorder spreading or if the surgery pain really is this bad. I have a high pain tolerance as I have CRPS in my left leg and I’ve had over 20 surgeries before.

It’s spreading

I got CRPS 13 years ago when I was 14. For 5.5 years I didn’t walk on it. We tried every pain med and treatment. It was till two traumatic pediatric chronic pain programs later that I learned how to live with it and walk on my left leg.

Now 13 years later and it’s spread to my lower right leg and foot after surgery. Surprisingly it didn’t develop right after. It took 15 days and the switch from a cast to a boot. I knew it was a risk but man does it have me sobbing. I don’t want to do this. I don’t want to hurt this bad. I don’t want to learn how to cope and push through it all again. I don’t want to be in 9/10 pain. I don’t want to try and see a pain specialist again and be told there is nothing they can do.

I got my dream job as a xc coach. I’m also working a full-time job and 2 other part times job. All things I love. Well except the full time but I need that for health insurance. Plus I’m in school online for my MSW. I was supposed to be weight bearing not feeling like I’m going to loose everything again.

I know God will get me through it. But I don’t want to go through it. I feel so alone. No one in my life knows how truly bad it is. And that I look okay around them when I’m distracted. But at home I cry and panic. I feel like that little girl all over again.

Insurance?

Hello! I have been a special ed pair of pro the last two years. As a school year approaches, I’m considering changing that I have a 14 hour week unpaid internship for my master in social work. Plus I work about 5 to 10 hours a week at the same place I’m doing my internship. That is paid. As a para pro I make about $1,100 a month. The health insurance is the only benefit.

Once again, I’m considering substitute teaching. I would make more money, but I lose the health insurance. How bad is marketplace insurance? I hear it’s pretty horrible. I might stay a pair of pro while I wait for another ankle surgery. Otherwise, I only use my insurance to see a nutritionist and therapist. Well, I guess I also would see PT.

Middle school coach interview

Hello! I am interviewing to be a middle school xc coach. Any tips? Any questions I should ask them? I’m a parapro for the school. We have multiple middle schools and they each have their own coach. I ran xc in college. Always at the back of the pack. I am currently running a girls on the run type program at a community center. But I don’t know much about coaching.

Recommendations?

Me and a couple of friends are going up to porcupine Mountains this weekend. We will be staying in Pelkie to camp. We are hoping to kayak, hike, anything unique we can find. I will just drive up to 90 minutes for anything. Any guided climbing adventures? Or anything else unique you would recommend?
