Tips for a Beginner in Programming? Help Your Girly Out 🥹

Hi everyone! I’m currently working as an accountant, but lately gusto ko talagang mag-upskill and one of the things that caught my interest is programming/coding.

Right now, I’ve been watching Doji Creates on YouTube and focusing on learning Python. Medyo nage-gets ko naman yung basics, pero since I have zero IT background, there are times na feeling ko ang bagal kong matuto or parang ang bobo ko kapag may concept na hindi ko agad maintindihan. Nahihirapan ako sa coding but at the same time nag-eenjoy ako haha.

For those who started from scratch and eventually got into tech, do you have any tips, study habits, learning resources, or advice that helped you along the way? How long did it take bago kayo naging comfortable sa coding?

Would really appreciate any insights. Thanks!

Overworked and quietly breaking

This is my first job (2yrs in the company), so honestly I don't know what's considered normal anymore.

I handle BIR, LGU, BOC, SEC-related work, and whenever there's something new, I'm usually the one who has to study it from the beginning, research everything, figure out the process, solve problems, think about possible consequences, and then execute it. Most of the time, I don't really get guidance or feedback. If I ask questions, I often get asked back, "What do you suggest?" so I end up solving it myself anyway.

Now they're planning to make me handle clients too, but I don't really enjoy client-facing work. I prefer back-end, compliance, and problem-solving tasks.

What really affected me was that there was a time when a filing ended up with a penalty, and I was asked to pay for it, even though I was following the process that was instructed to me. Since then, I've been feeling exhausted.

Lately, I feel like I've hit a wall. I sit down to work and sometimes my brain just feels tired. I don't know if I'm burned out, if this is normal in the corporate world, or if I'm simply not cut out for this kind of work.

I'm not even earning a lot, bumabawi lang sa OT pay kaya nahihit ko yung 20k per month.

I feel like I’m going crazy, really stressed, and I keep invalidating my feelings, thinking maybe I’m just overreacting and that this is normal.

Thanks for reading. I just needed to get this off my chest. ❤️

Sagot ba ng company niyo lahat ng expenses kapag may work kayo sa ibang lugar like Palawan, Cebu, Davao.? including airplane ticket. Sa amin kasi sagot mo yung plane ticket.

2.6 years in compliance work, 18k salary — is it time to leave my first job?

Hi everyone, I just want to ask for honest career advice kasi feeling ko stuck na ako and I don’t know if I should stay or start looking for another job.

I’ve been working for almost 2.6 years in my first job after graduating. My role is quite broad and mostly involves:

  • Tax compliance (including financial statements)
  • SEC compliance (GIS, AFS submission, eFAST, eSECURE)
  • BIR and other government reportorial requirements
  • End-to-end company registration (from scratch)
  • BOC compliance
  • Client coordination and answering tax-related questions
  • Other general compliance and admin tasks

Basically, mix siya ng accounting, tax, and compliance work. I’ve learned a lot since this is my first job, especially sa SEC processes and government filings. Pero lately, I feel like I’m stuck in a cycle.

My current salary is 18,000 pesos (including 2 hrs OT). I only have around 2.6 years of experience, pero honestly, I feel like the workload and responsibilities I handle are quite heavy compared sa compensation.

Lately, I also feel like I’m not growing anymore. Repetitive na yung tasks and parang wala na masyadong new learning. Since first job ko ito after graduation, I’m not sure if normal lang ba to.

I’m torn between:

  • Staying because familiar na ako sa work and processes
  • Leaving because I feel underpaid and stagnant
  • Or baka mindset shift lang talaga kailangan ko?

Gusto ko lang sana ng honest advice from people who’ve been in the same situation:

  • Should I stay longer to gain more experience?
  • Or is it already time to look for better opportunities?

Thank you in advance sa mag-aadvice 🙏
