Overthinking Perfectionism

I’m figuring out that I have ‘analysis paralysis’. I research too much, over deliberate on both low stakes and high stakes decisions, and once the decision is made I second guess myself. I ask far too many people to weigh in (and mostly reject their advice). I return purchases fairly often, buy from stores based on return policy, read numerous reviews, etc. if this sounds like you, what has helped? What type of counseling is best to overcome this type of perfectionism? No jokes about overthinking my overthinking!

Bupropion

Has this ALONE helped anyone’s anxiety? Seeing comments here, I’m not sure why my doctor recommended it. No side effects, but 150mg no magic yet. It’s only been one week though.

Dining Rooms now Endangered

To those of you who have some understanding of housing policy, is there any attempt to make a dining area (even small, but not a kitchen island with bar stools) a mandatory component of a 1+ bedroom rental apartment? A dining table is essential to keeping families connected. Tenants shouldn’t have to rent an amenity room to have their families over for dinner. It’s incredibly common to see apartments with only room to eat at the coffee table, or a kitchen bar, which imo is not suitable for young children or seniors. We need to slow down and connect over a meal together.

Good Start

I’ve been on 150mg one week. This is my 7th attempted medication for moderate to severe anxiety and can report that this is the first with virtually no side effects. Benefits so far are increased energy, better sleep. Oddly though, I’m actually pretty hungry.

Glass balcony dividers

What’s your best idea for a temporary privacy hack? My balcony neighbor is about 3 feet from my open bedroom window when just having a normal chat outside. These things are like a wall between high school bathroom stalls, but more transparent! Im looking for something attractive and minimal as a visual and acoustic barrier. It should conceal the gap between panels as well as the 4”-5” gap at the bottom. No Amazon vine mesh!

Switching from Trintillex

I took my last 5mg Trintillex one week ago. Picked up new prescription today. Doctor didn’t ask when i stopped the Trintillex. Is it okay to start new meds right away? No real side effects from withdrawal, but the anxiety / overthinking / hyper-focusing is back.

Rain pinging on hollow aluminum railing

I have finally found the right material to cushion the maddening rain sound in my rental apartment railing! It’s an outdoor A/C drip cushion. However, it is 24” long and I need 84”, so I will have to attach several lengths together.

TLDR Does anyone know another product made with the same thick, high-density open-cell foam, but in a long strip or roll? Minimum 2.5” wide. I don’t think neoprene will work.

This has a magnetic backing, which won’t work on the aluminum, but will keep raindrops from passing straight through. Adhesive backing is fine too, but I won’t use the adhesive. (Best would be some flexible, cuttable backing that is neither magnetic nor adhesive)

Cequa success!

I just want to share that this works for me. I went through the chronic dryness, aching behind eyes, masking 4-5 times a day, washing eyes, a variety of drops, chalazion cysts, redness, puffiness (from the warm compresses), you name it. Having high maintenance eyes and being unable to participate in meetings properly at work (I’m a teacher) because I have a midday compress to apply was stressful. I finally got the Cequa drops. They burn intensely at first. I mean, it’s bad! But it really does get better. Now I usually have little to no burning. My routine now is simple:

Cequa drops twice a day. (Keep the vial upright in a closed medicine bottle from the pharmacy and it yields 4-5 drops, or 2 - 2.5 applications) I also gently press my fingers over the puncta for about one minute to keep the Cequa from draining down and causing a dry cough.

Warm compresses (once in a blue moon if I feel like it)

Artificial tears about once a day in the afternoon, but I’d be okay if I skipped it. I no longer need the expensive ones from the optometrist. I’m fine with Costco brands like Systane as long as it’s a lipid formula.

So pretty much just the Cequa. There is currently no medical coverage available for this in my province, but with manufacturer’s coupon and reusing the vial I have the cost down to about $50CDN/month.

I’m a little concerned I may be on this forever, so I’ve asked for a follow-up, as it’s been about a year now. I just want to be sure it’s safe long-term.

North facing apartments

If you live in a strictly north facing unit with no side windows, do you find it dark, depressing? This one is ground floor with trees in front. No ceiling lighting.

What emotional abuse is like

I once had a window that always looked cloudy. Sometimes I would clean it and clean it. I could get it to sparkle a little in the surface, but I could never quite see through it. Then I realized there was condensation trapped between the panes, and it would never be clear. In fact, it would only get worse. I no longer live in that house with that window, and I gaze out at the clear sky every day.

A rental is a home.

Dear Land Owner,

Hardwood is not a colour. It’s actual wood.
A closet is not a den.
A baby should not sleep in a windowless closet. Please do not suggest this.
Less than 500 square feet is not “spacious”
A SIN number is not necessary to obtain a credit report. A tenant is not required to provide you with one.
A rental is a home, not just a transaction.

Need a strategy for waking worried

I’ve noticed that immediately upon waking, my mind starts racing through worries, particularly on weekends and holidays when I don’t have a routine. Can others share your strategies for shifting morning worries? Perhaps a breathing technique, morning affirmation, or somatic exercise?
