Seasoned witches: How has the frequency of your practice changed? (And other questions)

I have seen a fair few instances where seasoned practitioners eventually do less and less spellwork or rituals. This makes sense, since if you become reliably effective in your work, you’re not going to have to do much to keep your life in order. You’re going to know what works and what you shouldn’t bother with when problems arise. You don’t have to experiment as much as a beginner. It's natural for you to do less.

But in some of these examples, practitioners get to the point of barely do any workings at all. I’m worried about getting to that point because I love practicing and doing rituals, period. I’d feel a bit empty if I had nothing left to do, the same way I do when I go through cold spells. It just feeds my soul.

So I guess my question is, have you ended up doing less and less work the longer you've practiced? If you have, do you replace it with anything else, like rituals for people in your circle, or other witchcraft-adjacent practices?

Thanks!

Honey jars work: A detailed report 🐝

I did a honey jar for my workplace a couple of months ago. I did it as a form of protection—I work retail and having a good reputation can do a lot to protect you from customers complaining about you or trying to get you fired.

It was very simple—honey, a petition, and I felt like adding some calendula so I did. The petition was very broad, covering everyone who worked or shopped at my store location. After sealing the bottle with wax, I've left it sitting by my window. I didn’t really expect it to cover everyone, but I was interested in testing its limits. At a baseline, I already had a decent reputation.

Here is a breakdown of my results.

Timeframe: Results took 1-2 weeks to be noticeable, and they have only improved and intensified with time.

Managers: This is by far the most affected group. They will NOT stop complimenting me. They tell me I’m their favourite person in the department, that I’m the best worker, do a perfect job, etc. I’m now getting recognized and praised for the same work I was doing for years before. I am the best thing since sliced bread in their eyes. Honestly it’s getting a little embarrassing dealing with the onslaught of compliments lol.

Other coworkers: A few people talk to me more, but on the whole nothing really stands out as different for me.

People who don’t like me or pretend I don’t exist: One manager has now willingly spoken to me a couple of times. For others, no apparent difference. I don’t like them anyway so this suits my needs.

Customers: No change. Thankfully I don’t get too many bad customers to begin with.

I work there, did it work on me? I don't think it did. But I already have a good relationship with myself.

Why didn't it work on everyone? I think there are a few reasons:

  • There are some coworkers I’ve never met or we work at opposite sides of the store
  • There are some I don’t work with often
  • Many of them are part-time, so spending less time there than managers
  • When we do work together, we are usually doing our own thing—with managers, I’m either completing a task for them or with them, giving more opportunity for something to praise
  • Likewise, most customers don't spend much time at the location
  • I think it's expected for there to be a limit to how many people can be affected, and how much, in such a broad spell

Summary: People who spend more time at the target location are more complimentary towards me. Most effective on those who are collaborating with me in some way. Not effective on everyone and sometimes there was no noticeable difference.

Overall I’m very pleased with the results, especially with such a broad intent as mine. Anyway just wanted to share how things went in my experiment!

I want to be a witch but I don’t want to do any of the practices. I like the cute aesthetic, and it sounds like I’ll become popular yet mysterious if I tell people I'm a witch. I’ve heard you don’t need tools or ingredients anyway, you can just use your mind, so why not toss out the practice aspect altogether since it’s so insignificant? It sounds like you can be a witch purely based on vibes, not by doing witchcraft, which is perfect for me. What do you guys think?
