She means well. But she seems to think that short women having children with tall men will erase short men.

Also, height is relative. Some people don't think that 6 feet tall men are tall. Despite them being in the tallest percentiles. So there will always be short men even if only tall men got to have kids.

One can never forget the job interview scene from the movie "monster" (2003). Based on a true story of a little girl who got raped and grew up as an abused prostitute.

I do not know if this is too graphic for this subreddit. The movie is 23 years old now. I think that this movie and specific scene exemplifies why life sucks. I will give some spoilers.

She was beaten by her father at 9 for telling him that his friend raped her. She was bullied and used by her "friends" growing up. They took money and cigarettes from her and then left her alone. She had sex with any older man who wanted. Then she did it for payment. And these customers abused her so much. One was torturing her and intended to kill her. So she killed him and started a murder spree for revenge.

There is this scene that I never forgot. She tried getting a normal job as a secretary at a law firm. And the lawyer who interviewed her got upset that she even tried. He said something akin to: "You had your fun growing up and not caring about the future. We other people worked hard, we studied, do you think we did it all for fun? Now you have to pay the price for being lazy..." She had enough and attacked him.

This scene changed me, it has gone over 20 years and I keep thinking about it. I know that she is an extreme case. And my life was not even close to be tragic like hers. But it paints antinatalism perfectly. Don't you think so?

Why do Turkish Wikipedia sites remove "Iran" from history pages?

In 1935 Iran asked the world to stop calling it Persia. Because that Iranians themselves have always called the country Iran. It is like how Germans always called it "Deutschland." While it is "Germany" in English.

But when you look at Turkish versions of Wikipedia pages. They always remove the name Iran. And I do not understand why?

How do you deal with the regrets in life?

The things bothering me happened 10+ years ago. Like choosing not to buy BitCoin when it was cheap. Opting not to prioritize my job when I studied. You know what I mean. There are also dating stuff, such as fumbling that one woman. Being too nervous to flirt. Or not choosing that other project earlier in your career path

Despite them happening so long ago. I think about them all day, every day. For over a year now! What if instead of being a single 40 year old, I'd be a married father? I could have had a high status job as an accountant instead of my current job.

It is really exhausting! How do you deal with this?

How isolated are you on a rural area on the east during the monsoon season?

I have been to the Philippines before. Mostly around Manila and Subic Bay. It was during April so it was very warm and sunny. This time I want to experience a proper monsoon season along the pacific coast.

From Googling, I have learned that the peak place and season is Catanduanes and Eastern Samar during August–October. But how will this play out in real life? From what I gather, many locals actually leave for the inland. And life there will be in "isolation."

  • Does this mean that shops and restaurants will be closed a lot. I also would't want the hotel staff to stay just because of me.
  • How badly will the monsoon interfere with mobile networks and Internet? Might have to invest in an Starlink?
  • Also, what if you want to swim for a bit? I doubt that it will be as Subic Bay in April, with warm and clear water. Will it be cold and dirty?

How isolated are you on a rural area on the east during the monsoon season?

It has been over two years since I lost my dog. I still miss her daily.

I had a previous now deleted account when it happened. I used to post on this subreddit several times a day for months!

And before you ask. I am not getting another pet. Because that I made too many mistakes with her. Such as not taking her out on adventures. It was always "next month" or "next summer." If I have a dog now, I would know better. Which is not fair on my girl.

It feels like I died with the dog. I don't know if it is due to me being childless and single. But I have this feeling that she was the "family" of my life. And now I am to roam without her. Life feels way too long now.

Risk for re-addiction for an ex-nicotine addict?

I used to be addicted to nicotine. I used to smoke and do other types of nicotine. It has been almost 20 years and I still miss it. I want to smoke cigars, but not inhale. Will I as an ex smoker get addicted and maybe start smoking again? Anyone with experience that knows? Maybe you know friends who were ex smokers and then became smokers again?

I am scared that I am or might become an alcoholic

I bought a can of beer last week. And today I bought a six pack. Seems harmless. But I have been depressed for many years. And it is getting worse.

I also "look" like an alcoholic. I have a cap to hide my baldness. And a big beard because I cannot bother shaving or looking good. Since I have given up on trying to find love. I have no friends or family either. If I am not working, I am at home alone. I wanted to get drunk because that I feel like shit.

Should I be worried despite not actually drinking?

The most accurate movie to date has been Iphigenia from 1977. They were all striving to be historically and linguistically accurate. Even the actors are Greek, just like in the story.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076208/

In other adaptions you have non-Greeks playing the characters. Such as Ralph Fiennes, an English actor playing Odysseus in 2024 movie "The Return."

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt19861162/

No hate! I love that actor and I love his role in that movie. But if historically inaccurate casting was the issue. Why didn't you rage back in 2024?
