Upgrading from 1080p to 1440p/4K - Need monitor advice

Hey everyone,

I'm finally upgrading my monitor setup and could use some advice.

My current setup is:

  • Main monitor: AOC 27G1G4 (27", 1080p, 144Hz, 1500R curved)
  • Second monitor: Dell 24", 1920x1200, 60Hz

I recently upgraded my GPU to an RTX 5070 Ti, so 1440p gaming shouldn't be an issue, and I could probably even do some 4K gaming at around 60 FPS depending on the game.

My budget is around €170 per monitor (so roughly €340 total max).

Right now I'm debating between two options:

Option 1

  • 1x 27" 1440p high refresh rate monitor (for gaming)
  • 1x 27" 4K 60Hz monitor (for productivity, coding, watching movies/videos, etc.)

Option 2

  • 2x 27" 1440p high refresh rate monitors

Another thing I'm unsure about is curved vs. flat.

My current AOC is a 1500R curved monitor, and I've gotten used to it. I really like the immersion, but it seems like most curved 1440p monitors from well-known brands are outside my budget.

The curved monitors I can afford are mostly brands like KTC, Z-Edge, Amzfast, etc., and they're almost all VA panels.

On the other hand, for the same money I can get flat IPS monitors from brands like LG, MSI, Gigabyte, ASUS, Acer, or Dell.

So my questions are:

  • Is it worth getting a cheap curved VA monitor, or should I just go with a flat IPS from a more reputable brand?
  • Is switching from a curved monitor to a flat one difficult to get used to?
  • Would you rather have 2x 1440p high refresh monitors, or 1x 1440p high refresh + 1x 4K 60Hz for a mixed gaming/productivity setup?
  • Are there any specific monitors around €170 that you'd recommend?

I'd really appreciate any advice. Thanks!

und iPhone 15 Pro Max (or newer) + Apple Watches at the beach — how can I contact the owners?

I found an iPhone (likely a 15 Pro Max or newer) and 3 Apple Watches (2 Series 6 and 1 Ultra) at the beach. I’m trying everything I can to get them back to the owners, but I’m running into issues.

The iPhone has some water damage and can’t be charged via cable—only wireless charging seems to work. There’s no SIM card, so I can’t find any contacts that way, and there’s no Medical ID set up either.

I’m getting an Apple Watch charger tomorrow to see if any of the watches are still unlocked or if any Medical ID/emergency contact info is available.

I refuse to believe Apple hasn’t set up any measures for situations like this, so I feel like I must be missing something.

Right now it just feels like I’ve got a lot of expensive devices sitting here that belong to someone, and I really don’t want to give up on finding the owners.

The phone is currently in airplane mode, which is honestly just stupid. I wish I could own a $1600 phone and not have to worry about setting up countermeasures in case I lose it.

I’m also no longer in the country where I found it—I’m about a one-hour flight away now—so I can’t take it to a lost and found, police, or an Apple Store. Even then, the police or lost and found probably wouldn’t be much help anyway in that Country.

Found 3 Apple Watches on a beach months ago, Usable or paperweights?

My friend found three Apple Watches on a beach a few months ago. When he first checked them, they were all locked, so there wasn’t much he could do with them. It’s been a while now, and I was wondering if there’s any chance the original owners might have removed them from their iCloud accounts.
I’ve never used an Apple Watch before, so I’m not really sure how Activation Lock works. If an Apple Watch is no longer linked to someone’s Apple ID, how would I know? Is there a way to check whether it’s still locked, and if it isn’t, can I just reset it and start using it normally?
Also, if they’re still locked, are they basically just paperweights, or is there anything an Apple Store can do? And if I were to buy a new Apple Watch, could a locked one be traded in for any credit, or does it have to be completely unlocked first.

Best Apple Watch for fitness under $150? (Used/refurbished)

I’m looking to buy an Apple Watch mainly for step tracking, calorie tracking, workouts, and basic features like notifications. I’ll probably buy used or refurbished and would like to stay under $120, but I can stretch to $150 if it’s worth it.
I’ve seen people recommend the Apple Watch SE2 or S8 but there are so many different models that I’m not sure what the best value is. What would you recommend, and are there any models I should avoid?
Thanks!

Play music through mic while excluding Discord audio?

I want to be able to play music, soundboard audio, or YouTube audio through my mic while still being able to talk normally. I also want to isolate Discord so that people in the call don't hear themselves or any Discord audio.

I was using Voicemeeter Banana and had everything working exactly how I wanted, but I recently reset the settings and now I have no idea how to set it up again. I had a video that explained the entire process step by step, including how to isolate Discord and route desktop audio through the mic, but I can't find it anymore.

Could someone help me recreate this setup or point me to a guide that does exactly this? Thanks!

Has anyone seen this camera giveaway scam before?

Is this a common camera giveaway scam?

I'm pretty sure this is a scam, but I wanted to get some opinions from people who may have seen this before.

Someone in my university Discord server posted a message saying they were giving away a Sony camera with a Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 lens because they no longer needed it. The message said something like:

"Anyone who's interested in my Sony camera with SmallRig cage and Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 lens. Very low shutter count. Used by a commercial company for headshots and no longer needed. It's in perfect condition and I'm willing to give it out to someone who can't afford one and is in need of it. First come, first served."

I DM'd them out of curiosity. They started telling me how they don't use it anymore and want it to go to someone who is genuinely interested in photography and will put it to good use.

Now they're saying they're currently in Atlanta for a photoshoot and want to FedEx it to me. So far they've only asked for my name and shipping address.

My assumption is that the next step will be them asking me to pay for shipping, insurance, customs fees, or some other expense, and then they'll disappear once they receive the money.

Has anyone seen this exact type of scam before? Is this a common setup, or is there another angle I'm missing?

Thanks.

Living in Leiden while studying at TU Delft – anyone with experience?

Hi everyone,

This September I'll be starting my studies at TU Delft, but I'll be living in Leiden.

I'm curious if anyone here has been inTi a similar situation. How did it affect your social life and student experience? Did you end up spending most of your time in Delft because of your studies, friends, and activities, or did you mostly build your social life in Leiden?

I'm also wondering about student associations. Is it common or practical to join a student association in Leiden while studying at TU Delft? Looking back, would you choose a student association in the city where you live or in the city where you study?

I'd love to hear about your experiences and any advice you might have.

Thanks! (antwoorden in het nederlands is ook prima)

Studentenleven in Leiden als TU Delft-student

Hallo,

Alvast bedankt!

Looking for a Budget-Friendly Mic Upgrade from a Blue Snowball iCE

I've been using a Blue Snowball iCE microphone for the past 2–3 years, and I'm thinking about upgrading. I haven't had much time to keep up with all the new audio gear that's come out recently, so I was hoping you all could give me some recommendations.

I'm mainly looking for a budget-friendly microphone since this is just for personal use and not for work or content creation.

For headphones, I'm currently using a Sony WH-1000XM3. I'm not necessarily looking to replace them, but if there are any worthwhile audio upgrades you think would make a noticeable difference, I'd love to hear your suggestions as well.

Thanks in advance!

Hey everyone,

I’m currently rewatching the anime (now starting Season 4) and I’m thinking about reading the light novels, but I’m not sure where to begin.

So my main question is: how much content does the anime actually skip or change compared to the light novels? Is it minor details, or are there major character/plot differences? Basically trying to decide if it’s worth reading from Volume 1 or if I can jump in somewhere halfway.

Also, I’m a bit confused about something specific:

I’ve read online that there are already developments between Ayanokoji and Kei Karuizawa in the light novels (like hints of kissing or even sleeping together around Volume 9–10). But I’ve watched up through Season 3 (which should adapt up to Volume 11.5, right?), and in the anime their relationship still feels pretty distant.

So what’s going on there?

  • Is the anime skipping those moments entirely?
  • Is it censoring/changing their relationship?
  • Or is the LN info I saw exaggerated/misinterpreted?

Would appreciate any insight

Thanks!
