Upgrading from 1080p to 1440p/4K - Need monitor advice
Hey everyone,
I'm finally upgrading my monitor setup and could use some advice.
My current setup is:
- Main monitor: AOC 27G1G4 (27", 1080p, 144Hz, 1500R curved)
- Second monitor: Dell 24", 1920x1200, 60Hz
I recently upgraded my GPU to an RTX 5070 Ti, so 1440p gaming shouldn't be an issue, and I could probably even do some 4K gaming at around 60 FPS depending on the game.
My budget is around €170 per monitor (so roughly €340 total max).
Right now I'm debating between two options:
Option 1
- 1x 27" 1440p high refresh rate monitor (for gaming)
- 1x 27" 4K 60Hz monitor (for productivity, coding, watching movies/videos, etc.)
Option 2
- 2x 27" 1440p high refresh rate monitors
Another thing I'm unsure about is curved vs. flat.
My current AOC is a 1500R curved monitor, and I've gotten used to it. I really like the immersion, but it seems like most curved 1440p monitors from well-known brands are outside my budget.
The curved monitors I can afford are mostly brands like KTC, Z-Edge, Amzfast, etc., and they're almost all VA panels.
On the other hand, for the same money I can get flat IPS monitors from brands like LG, MSI, Gigabyte, ASUS, Acer, or Dell.
So my questions are:
- Is it worth getting a cheap curved VA monitor, or should I just go with a flat IPS from a more reputable brand?
- Is switching from a curved monitor to a flat one difficult to get used to?
- Would you rather have 2x 1440p high refresh monitors, or 1x 1440p high refresh + 1x 4K 60Hz for a mixed gaming/productivity setup?
- Are there any specific monitors around €170 that you'd recommend?
I'd really appreciate any advice. Thanks!
