New solar power system finally installed

New solar power system finally installed

It's been a couple of months coming, finding a suitable time for the installers and gaps in the weather, etc, but it was finally all done earlier today.
Got nearly 16 kW of panels on the roof, a 48 kW/h battery & EV charger in the garage.
We're very happy with it.

Lower Decks intro koala

Is it just me that's really late to the party, but have other people seen the koala in the clouds a few seconds into the intro? Up near the top-right with two stars as the eyes.
I only noticed this about the 5th time I've watched all the episodes as I'm not using my usual telly (Kodi box) and I can't easily jump a few seconds to bypass the intro etc, so I never noticed it before.

Laptop direct to Pi?

Just finalising the mechanical side of a many-times rebuilt printer (now to be a chocolate printer) and I was wondering if instead of connecting the Pi to the network I could just run a network cable from this laptop to it?

A suitable direct-drive wheel?

I used to sim race a bit but that was years ago, I want to get back into it later this year and was wondering if a suitable direct-drive wheel, gearshift, and pedals could be recommended.
I don't need all the bells in whistles like 50 buttons on the wheels, just a handful is plenty.
Thanks!

No I don't work for that airline!

Back in the 80's I used to work at a flying school that shared its front counter with a small airline that operated out of the same airport. They only had a few flights per day and so between flights the counter was often unmanned and they'd be in their other office answering phones.

This particular week they'd just started to use what we call in the trade a 'honey cart', which was the pleasant way of labelling the cart used to empty the sewage tank in the aircraft into. They didn't really have any dedicated place to empty the cart so they'd sneak down to a road on the edge of the airport and dump the smelly contents into a drain there. Not very good but that's the best they could do at the time.

Anyway I was standing at the flying school counter and the airline counter was empty as there were no flights for hours. A fellow who looked extremely angry cam storming in through the front door, spotted me, and charged over. He immediately started on a loud tirade as to how much the road smelled after they dumped the effluent across the road from his house. He went on and on for a few minutes and I thought it best to not interrupt him because he was going oh so well. I just stood there nodding in agreement with him. And I was because I knew it was a shitty thing ( no pun intended) they were doing but at that point had no choice.

Anyway he finally ran out of vitriol and steam, slammed both hands on the counter and said loudly, "SO WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT!?!?!?" I replied, "oh, you want XXX Airlines, this is a flying school (pointing up at the sign above his head), they're in that office over there I'll get them for you. Ah his face, it was priceless.

I did, and I was friends with all that airline's staff so I was glad he'd had a big vent before talking to them. He seemed a lot calmer and they seemed to sort it out fairly quickly.

How is 2.4.1 going?

I tried to use 2.4.0 and it simply couldn't find the printer(s) and a number of other people seemed to have the same problem. Is it better with 2.4.1 ?

Saturn 4 Ultra 16K speed

Got one of these at work recently and I've spent about 16 years on filament printers and am still learning about resin units.
The advertising blurb says it can print at up to 150 mm/hr, but the few things I've printed have taken far longer than that rate. What boxes do I have to tick or change to bump the speed up please?
We're using Satellite etc.

Orcaslicer not connecting with printers

I updated to 2.4 yesterday and today when using it for the first time I've found that it will not connect to the A1 printer. It's imported all the setting, etc, and it wanted to install the network plugin 01.10.1.09.

Any suggestions please?

Having fun with the post office.

Here in Australia you can setup a mail redirect for any incoming mail, it gets sent to the new address. I was thinking that for shits & giggles someone could do that with at least three post offices, with the first one redirecting to the second and that one redirecting to the third, and that one redirecting to the first.
Give the address to everyone and have them send a letter or an empty box to any of the post offices, then sit back and watch the main keep on piling up.

A mobile phone screen that rotates

I don't mean in 90° increments, more like 1° so you can spin the phone around as you like.
Might be fun having the icons on the home screen move around wildly.

Best kitchen idea ever IMHO

I really hate cleaning up after a meal, so I thought that you could have a large roller that you just peel off a new kitchen with oven, sink, etc, then when you're finished scrunch up into a ball and throw it in the rubbish.
Much easier.

Anything that works like Solidworks 'Convert Entities" ?

It's an extremely handy tool in SW, I haven't seen anything that can do the same in OS. A plug-in or something .... maybe?

How many people here also have a 3D printer?

I just thought about this and I suspect that anyone who can CAD is probably likely to have a printer than someone who doesn't.

Edit - Looks like I guess correctly!
I too have a Bambu A1 here at home and another at work, we just got an Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra.
I'm also building a 500mm cube CoreXY printer for work at home as well.

Edit 2 - Just remembered I have screen captures of the big printer design.
