what are your hacks for keeping your home ALWAYS smelling clean *especially* if you have pets

I’m wondering what you guys do for your home to keep it always clean and smelling good but without it smelling like an overpowering fragrance.

Things I currently like to do:
(1) change the air filters regularly
(2) rinse my vacuum filter monthly (so the sucking power stays)
(3) vacuum all my floors and baseboard once a week
(4) sweep my kitchen and bathroom or other high traffic areas once a day or every other day
(5)wipe down all my counters daily (bathroom & kitchen)
(6) wash my sheets / bedding / bath mat weekly
(7) I try to stick to consistent fragrances like lemon/citrus and lavender

Pet specific:
(1) hide the litter boxes out of eye sight.. mostly
(2) clean litter boxes daily, duh
(3) use an ozone odorizer and odor gels near the litter boxes
(4) use a litter genie
(5) every two weeks completely dump out litter and rinse the litter boxes, litter genie, litter mats and scoopers

Thank you in advance for your tips!

Paver Patio Help

Hi everyone!

I’m looking to install a paver patio myself in the area of the picture. It’s going to lay generally as a rectangle.

My question is:

do I need to place a retaining wall when I remove the soil closest to the exterior wall to prevent any foundation problems in the future?

Here is my current plan:

Dig about a 5.5 inch rectangle in the space mentioned. I plan on keeping the hole about 6-12 inches away from the existing patio and the exterior wall. I will only remove the sod layer in these places to lay sand and rocks to kill any grass growing there.

Fill the space with 4 inch deep all purpose gravel followed by 1 inch deep of paver sand. Then lay the 1.5 inch thick pavers down followed by the edging and permsand.

If I do need a retaining wall, is it as simple as place retaining blocks along the rectangle hole I made before layering the gravel and sand?

Edit: I’m not sure why it won’t let me post a photo of the space

Looking for advice- How to put up wavy short hair

Hello!

I’ve yet to figure out how to put up my hair in a way that doesn’t destroy my hair and works with my hair type. I have wavy hair (2B) and a wolfette hair cut my hair length is an inch or so about my shoulders with curtain bangs.

Putting my hair back into a ponytail doesn’t really work for me. It gets frizzy and the hair isn’t coarse enough to hold its tightness in the pony tail so it gets sad and pathetic throughout the day. It doesn’t look professional. I don’t think my hair is short enough to leave it down in uniform, but I don’t like the way I look wearing a PC with my hair down anyway, not unless it’s more of a pixie 🧚

My fellow short haired wavy and curly
Girlies- please help me out and let me know what works for you. If you are comfortable with sharing pictures of what your hair looks like, I would appreciate that too!

I’m not good at braiding but maybe it’s time to learn

The unseen: a novel by Ania Ahlborn

Wow what a book. I saw a lot of people had mixed reviews of this book by Ania. I think if you enjoy sci fi/horror this was an amazingly disturbing book. I finished it last night before I went to bed and it definitely triggered my sleep
Disorder / hallucinations lol.

The mother drove me CRAZY. You don’t see why until one of the final chapters of the book. I felt anxious almost every step of the way with the family.

I did skim some of the paragraphs of the internal monologues but beyond that I thought it was great. It left some haunting images in my mind that I’m sure I’ll see in my nightmares again tonight.

First time hiking in Balsam Knob

It’s my first time hiking in the area and I plan on setting up base at a campsite for a few days while checking out the area with my adventure buddy, my cat.

Any recommendations? I’m coming from Europe where I’m used to steep beautiful mountains with water filled basins.

Also I’m used to there be no natural predators to worry about.

The Unseen: by Ania Ahlborn

I just read Ania’s brother last night. As in I started it at 11 PM thinking I would drift off to sleep 30 minutes later and instead finished it at 5 AM this morning. Needless to say, I’m hooked on her writing.

I’m on page 57 of The Unseen and I just have to say Isla is driving me insane. She is one of those characters you want to reach into the page and shake. She’s a tragic character struggling with PTSD, SI, and depression but DAMN GIRL. It’s frustrating watching her turn her back on her own children and forsake the safety of her home (the van scene) for some random kid.

For anyone who’s read The Unseen, what are your take on Isla?

Stupid damaged engineered wood floors - (DE)

I’m frustrated with the wood floor situation we are in.

Our landlord has engineered wood installed and did the seal himself when we moved in. He’s a pretty handy man and I trust his work but I’m doubtful of his skill dealing the floor.

These wood floors can’t be sanded and resealed since it’s engineered wood and it’s textured. Water stains would get trapped and stain the wood if you didn’t catch the spill within 5-10 minutes. We had a cat who was ill and passed away on the wood floor so he left a significant stain when he passed, and had a few other accidents on the floor that left stains.

We got a cost estimate from the company who put in the wood floors for replacing 4.6 m^3 surface area for almost 2,200€. We compared it to the initial install of ~67 m^3 surface area at 2,500€. It’s insane to me that the price to repair is nearly the same as install.

Im baffled and really annoyed.

Anyone here crumble when they make mistakes at work

I feel such profound shame if I make a mistake that could be at all tied to my character or demeanor in the slightest of ways. I know it’s my anxiety. I know it’s not true. But I can’t help it.

It always makes me want to quit my job and give up.

Struggling with anxiety for a meeting tomorrow

I’m struggling with crippling anxiety over a mistake I made at work. I have horrible anxiety. If I make a mistake a work, I feel immense shame. It’s something I really struggle with. When I realized I made this mistake and got in trouble, I felt like I took a plunge in an ice bath.

Are any of you girlies military? It’s important for the background.

But basically I’m moving countries and my temporary position of work got mad I wasn’t around.

I’m about to PCS from Europe to America. Like in less than three weeks. During this transitional period I’ve been doing some shadowing of another organization. But essentially, I don’t have a job. My old / real job I was doing was already filled by my replacement as I got ready to leave.

Anyway I’ve been at home last week getting my life together prepping for the move. Getting my pets ready, buying a house paperwork, getting my current place ready to leave and be packed up, and my car has been in the car for three weeks. It’s probably going to be in the shop for another week or two then I’m shipping the car. So I’m car-less.

I’ve been at home getting my life together. I didn’t attend one of the shadowing events because of everything listed above. I got a message from my temp boss to come in tomorrow for a discussion and she’s pretty upset. She thought I was at this shadow event and found out I wasn’t there.

I didn’t think I was being evasive or slimy - I’m moving countries and this work knows this. But I didn’t explicitly let them know I was still without a car.

Anyway my anxiety is overwhelming. I see where I made a mistake but my anxiety and shame is telling me I’m a POS.

Help - stained wood floors

Background: I’m a renter and I’m about to move out. Our floors are real hard wood flooring. We love our landlord who is very crafty and skilled but he did the floors himself and I’m not convinced he did a good job. These wood floors were so precarious during our time here. You couldn’t sneeze without causing a stain on this wood floor.

Anyway. My cat caused a stain you see in the picture. I need to fix it somehow before I leave. I read that I could use an orbital sander with two different levels of sanding for stains not too deep then cover with a new layer or two of polyurethane.

Does that sound about right to those who are experienced? Can I do a patch work method where I do just the wood panels that are stained or do I need to do the whole floor? These floors are only a few years old.

Thanks in advice for the help

Help with memory card

Disclaimer upfront: (1) based on my readings so far I think I caused permanent damage to the card well (2) I’m brand new at this hobby

I just thrifted a canon rebel T7. I saw there were still photos on the SanDisk memory card (64GB). I thought I needed a new disk so I looked for a card I thought was similar… and bought a Phillips micro SD adapter…

I understand now that all I had to do was format the card. I also understand now that by placing that Phillips card in the card well I may have caused permanent damage (according to Google).

My issue is that when I put the SanDisk back in the camera that it recognizes there is a disk in the camera but no pictures are saving.

I’ve reformatted the card, I tried the “jog” fix with the original SD card, ive triple checked that the lock/unlock button on the card was in the right place… is there anything I can do to fix this myself?
