Challenge: Street Fighters if they had pokemon teams

For all the Street Fighter and Pokemon fans to have a bit of fun. If you could give an SF character a full team of 6 Pokemon what pokemon would each character have?

I started off with Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Cammy, Akuma and Sakura the most frequent SF characters.

Then I chose 2 SF characters per generation to come up with a team of 6 Pokemon. Each pokemon should have a reason to be grouped with the characters.

Lemme know what you guys come up with for your ideas. Im happy to explain my choices. Also theres not really any limits on what kind of Pokemon each characters can have.

Firebreathing is Feral

In fiction if a character has fire, heat, light or solar/stae based powers. They typically project it as a long ranged attack through their hands. Maybe their feet too (if they are martial artists or flying) and in cases like Superman substitutes or Cyclops likes. They have heat vision or optic hard light beams.

But if theres a character who can spit or breathe out fire like a flamethrower expect that character to be less human and more animal like or that their firebreathing come across as more feral, violent or angry by comparison.

I feel superheroes with firey powers dont tend to breathe fire and while villains may not you do get it sometimes like Killian breathing fire in ironman 3 gices off some dragon like imagery, Azula does it where losing her mind making her seem very feral. Bizarro in Superman and lois roars his fire breath animalistically and burns down his barn after an argument with his wife leads her to leave him taking their sons too. Broly is more of a Qi/Ki example but he comes across more brutish or rage driven when he spits out lasers from his mouth whilst howling in anger as opposed to most super saiyan blasting through their hands.

In Pokemon almost all fire types breathe out fire as their default attack regardless. Though the more animal-like ones almost do all their fire attack through their mouths. The more humanoid ones are at least just as likely to punch or kick with fire. Many dont shoot flames from their hands.

And then again fire breathing in myths and religions is usually associated with feral violent Dragon in Europe who are no more intelleigent than a svaage animal. Whilst the more intelligent or deity like counterparts in Asia are typically water, sky or electric associated rather than fire.

The biggest exception to this rule is Dhalsim in street fighter. But I wanna see if anyone here can comment on whether Fire Breathing in media is more associsted with Ferality or animalistic characters or when their mindset drops to that level.

Right country wrong city accent

I was wondering if this is a trope where a fictional character has or uses an accent that is from the country they claim to be but then its completely the wrong accent for the place they claim to come from. I dunno if this counts as misplaced accent or not.

In the Serpent TV show. Charles Sobhraj pretends he is a Peurto Rican American citizen when interrogated by an US Embassy member who points out Charles American accent doesnt match the part of American his ID claims he is from. Charles brushes it off clsiming he used to travel around with puerto rican grandparents a lot and he didnt have single accent to stick to or something so he gets away with it. For what its worth Charles is a French citizen of Indian/Vietnamese mixed heritage.

Mystique in X-Men evolution has this going on when she pretends to be a British exchange student name Risty Wilde and seems to be using an Estuary or generic southern English accent but she claims to come from Manchester which is in Northern England and they have a very different accent as a whole.

Arrowverse has this with Manchester Black and John Constantine. Black is from Manchester but played by British Nigerian David Ajala using his natural MLE with a slight northern twang (my best guess he was probably told to tone down any attempt at a Manc/northern accent). British characters associated with him have southern accents like his ex having a posh RP accent and his friend Top Hot using a fake cockney sounding accent (theyre actor are Asian Americans so yeah its bad). Constantine is from Liverpool but played by a Welshman using what is nit quite a Scouser accent. What makes it funny is that SaturnGirl from is played by Amy Jackson who is allowed to use her natural Scouse accent because producers wantes her accent to sound as Alien as possible as if the humans of Saturn developed their own accent in isolation.... just sounds like Liverpudlians/Scousers colonise Saturn in the future.

Also everytime Lewis Tan plays an evil hongkong character. He does a dodgy mix of Cockney and Chinese (the actor claims to do this because Hong Kong was a British colony and incorrectly assumes they use British English with an english accent). What more bizarre is people thinking thats Tans real accent because he is born in Manchester, UK but the Cockney accent is nothing like the Manc one and also Tan is raised entirely in L.A. and has no natural British accent of anykind. When Scott Adkins mentions his Manchester birthplace and jokingly does a Manchester accent during their YT interveiw. Lewis Tan doesnt seem to hear a differenfe between Adkins Brummie accent and the fake Manc one he was using. For what it is worth English in Hong Kong is more americanised now much like most of the East Asia.

The final example is from web series Cornershop Show. Michael Truong plays a Chinese immigrant Tony Chang but uses a Vietnamese accent despite Tony being directly from China. In a podcast Michael revealed he was unaware that the Chinese accent that he copied from his parents was actually a Vietnamese accent because he was never told by them they were Hoa immigrants to the UK. Hoa being Vietnamese peolle of Chinese Ethnicity. So he genuinely thought his parent immigrated from China to the UK not knowing they were Vietnamese immigrants of Chinese Ethnicity to the UK.

I feel like theres definitely more examples of this in media whether its because a character is unable to recognise or is unaware of regional accents. Or the writers prefer a steroetypical/base neutral accent instead.

Black Marvel Super Hero Squad

Heres a challenge. Make an all Black Superhero team. Preferably one made up of canon characters in the comics though alternate interpretations or noncanon can be included like Ghost being black in the MCU or MjNari existing in the 90s X-Men.

Part of this challenge is to create a team of 10 heroes each fitting a role in the same way the Marvel Super Hero Squad show did witu their characters. For added bonus (not necessary) try to have an equal number of Male and Female characters plus as many varieties of ethnicities too.

Speed: Australian Aboriginal Eden Fesi aka Manifold (teleportation/portal opening)

Strength: Russian/Wakandan Nezhno Abidemi aka Gentle (Basically a Wakanda Hulk with Vibranium Tattoos to limit his muscle mass gain)

Magic: Black Haitian Jericho Drumm aka Dr Voodoo (Black Sorcerror Supreme)

Energy: Australian Aboriginal Shard Bishop (Light energy absorbtion and manipulation. Light form too)

Tech: Black American Riri Williams aka Ironheart (Kid genius with her own high tech armour)

Elemental: Kenyan American Ororo Munroe aka Storm (Weather Manipulation... I mean how was she not gonna be on this team)

Animal: Wakandan Princess Shuri daughter of Ramonda aka Black Panther.

Kid-Appeal: Nigerian Idie Okonkwo aka Oya/Tempest (Temperature manipulation. Id love to see Storm mentor her as Wolverine did for Reptil)

PowerHouse: Black American Adam Brashaer aka Blue Marvel (basically Marvels Black Superman)

Martial Artist: British Latverian/Black Eric Brooks aka Blade (just look up GodZillaRex breaking down all of Blade martial arts)

This was almoat very male dominated and too many were American. So forcing myself to diverisfy the gender and ethnicities made it more interesting for me personally. What do you guys think and who would be on your roster for a Black Marvel Super Hero Squad

Also feel free to suggest a DC one if you guys want.

Amulet × Green Lantern = Blue Lantern or Green Amulet

Marvel has Fadi Fadlallah a Lebanese American Muslim lad from Dearborn, Michigan who uses a Blue coloured Nazar Amulet to empower himself with mainly blue forcefield powers.

DC has Simon Baz, a Lebanese American Muslim lad from Dearborn, Michigan who was given a Green Lantern ring that empowers himself with mainly Green coloured constructs.

Just saying if a new Amalgam universe was made today. These 2 would 100% be a merged character. But the question is. What would the merged name be? Fadi Baz? Or Simon Fadlallah? Also what about their superhero name?

If Netflix used these photos of Taz Skylar for the casting announcement

I remember when Taz Skylar was first announced to play Sanji. The image used was him with buzz cut blond hair and in a sleeveless white vest.

Leading to people wondering why does Sanji's actor look like Eminem and honestly I can agree though I was in the boat of "guys hes gonna wear a wig or grow his hair out so calm your life"

But how funny or crazy would the community reception have been if Taz Skylar told them to use his younger photos just for the bants. (I know Id love to troll people like that)

Taz Skylar (real name Tarek Yasine Skylar) is naturally a brunet and his skin tans to an olive tone as he is half Lebanese half English (and was born in Spain) and seeing him pre-blond hair makes it obvious he has beautiful mixed Eurasian heritage. But how do you think youd have reacted if these were the first photos of Taz you ever saw? And how would you react to seeing him as Sanji knowing what he used to look like?

Juliano Valdi (Afro Latino) has potential to be Miles Morales in the future.

I just watched Michael 2026 and looked up the cast. The kid Michael Jackson was played by Juliano Valdi (I think he is 12 years old now) but I found out his Afro-Latino (Dominican and Ecuadorian specifically). I know Sony wont allow a live action Miles Morales until after the Spiderverse animated films are done. But in about 3-6 years he will be around 15-18 which is a decent age for a late teens Miles.

Plus he can likely speak Spanish. He'd need to learn the Puerto Rican Dialect for it Miles Spanish scenes (If British Anglo-Spaniard Dafne Keen can learn a Mexican accent for Laura Kinney. Valdi could learn the Puerto Rican dialect).

He has a dance background but if he takes up acrobatics or gymnastics or even breaking. He could probably do what Tom Holland does for Peter Parker.

Anyways I thought it was important to Afro-Latino fans to know about this rising star.

My virtua fighter ideas for West Asian and South Asian potential characters

If saw someone post new martial art ideas for Virtua Fighter mostly on Far East Asian styles like Silat, Escrima and Wing Chun. So I though lemme share my ideas out there for West Asia and South Asia. Plus some pictures for inspiration on each concept.

West Asia

Shiba/Abdul Majid - now reimagined as a Lebanese grappler using Kowat Al-Rami martial art. Maybe his backstory has him migrate to Saudi where he works as a freelance mercenary. Id take some Sabu inspirations as he was a popular American wrestler who wrestled in Japan and he has Lebanese heritage.

Alternatively a brand new character a Lebanese Brazilian wrestler that uses Luta Livre (founded by a Lebaneze Brazilian) and modelled on many Lebanese Brazillian MMA fighter. Have him as a rival to Cieol.

A British Iranian Nearu fighter from Birmingham. Modelled on British Iranian Martial Arts star Darren Shahlavi (R.I.P). Nearu is an Iranian martial arts but the foinder fled to the UK and the style is taught in Birmingham. I can see this character having a breathing and air motif due to Nearu's philosophy on breath control and oxygen powering the muscles. He'd be a more striking and speed orientated character.

South Asia

Bangladeshi Youtuber who practises Butthan Martial Art. The first video on YouTube was Me At the Zoo with co-Founder Jawed Karim (who is half Bangladeshi on his Dads side). So I thougg why not a YouTube style streamer from Bangladesh that travel vlogs and video documents the vaugest fighting style he can and tests them against his style. May model him on British Bangladeshi Youtuber, Actor and Martial Artist Islah Abdur Rahman.

Indian Bollywood actor. Think Johnny Cage but Indian and uses Kalaripayattu. Vidyut Jammwal can be the influence as he is a Bollywood actor that does Kalaripayattu (he is also cast as Dhalsim in the upcoming Street Fighter Film)

Pakistani Wrestler. Id save this idea for Tekken but if Tekken doesnt do it. Virtua Fighter might as well steal their audience. Base him on Pakistani American Mustafa Ali or British Pakistanis Amir Jordan and Marduk Malik. He can either do Kushti or some kind of traditional wrestling. Or if they wanna play around. Make him a Luchador hybrid with Kushti. Maybe he is cousins of El Blaze and is from the Punjabi Mexican Community of Los Angeles (Punjab is split between modern day Pakistan and India) and some early Punjabi Mexicans in Los Angeles would trace their heritage to botj Pakistani and India depending in which part of Punjab theyre from.

Goldberg and Bettelheim are both German names right?

I was watching Netflix YOU. Theres a scene where Forty asked Joe Godlberg if he is a self hating Jew because he uses the fake name Will Bettelheim.

Im from the UK so from my POV both Goldberg and Bettelheim sound German. But Forty claim Goldberg sounds Jewish and Bettelheim soinds Nazi.

How do Americans distinguish which German names are Jewish sounding and which are Nazi sounding? Coz from a UK POV British Jews like Lord Alan Sugar for example have straight up anglo-sounding names that at least too me just sound plain English.

I found out Jews playing Nazis is a trope. This got me thinking....

Aya Cash is an Ashkenazi American Jew that infamously plays a super Nazi German character Storm Front in The Boys. I saw the trope Jews playing Nazis applied to her and it got me thinking how often do we see something similar or along the lines of this with other cultures and their oppressors/tormentors. What would we call it for example that arent Jews playing Nazis but something similar?

One that came to mind for myself Stephen Graham playing a Neo-Nazi Skin Head whose character calls a black man the N-Word before attacking him and beating him to death. Graham irl has a Black Jamaican father and his siblings are clearly mixed while he is White passing.

British Asian Mauritian actor Hamza Jeetooa is a Muslim in real life but in Doctor Who his character is an anti-Muslim Hindu extremist who murders his own Brother for marrying into a Muslim family and would have killed his own Muslim In Laws too.

Keanu Reeves is partially Chinese but I keep seeing this reel of him playing a white guy who mockingly say Konichiwa to Korean American street gangsters. When they call him out in it. He goes in a racist rant about not being about to tell coz they apparently act like every other racist stereotype he has of non-Asian comminities whilst dropping some questionable slurs Ive never heard of before and dont want to repeat (except Dog Munching bit Ive hears that before) but Keanu could technically by allowed ti say for being Partially Far Eastern Asian.

An LGBT example would be Homosexual John Barrowmans Malcolm Merlin in Arrow who is implied to be Anti-LGBT mostly in his interaction with bisexual Sarah Lance and lesbian Nyssa Al Ghul.

British Gujurati Hindu Dev Patels most famous roles have been Muslim. But in an inversion of this idea. His character Jamal Malik (an Indian Muslim) is forced to flee anti-Muslim Hindu extremists after witness them kill his mother and attempt the same with him and his brother. Note Dev Patel is definitely not an Anti-Muslim or Hindu Extremist its more the irony that he is a Hindu playing a Muslim character who almost gets killed by Hindus for being Muslim when irl he'd be safe from prosecution.
