How Do You Name .sh Files?

I'm learning Bash to write some automation scripts and I'd like to know what the community recommends when it comes to naming .sh files.

From what I've found, the community generally seems to recommend kebab-case, while the Google Shell Style Guide recommends snake_case.

Which one do you prefer, and why?

Viva o vibe coding!

For those who use openSUSE Aeon, would you recommend it?

My laptop has the following specifications:

  • Intel Core i5-12450H
  • NVIDIA RTX 3050
  • 16 GB RAM
  • 512 GB SSD

I'm looking for an immutable distribution. I've tried Fedora, and now I'd like to learn more about openSUSE Aeon, especially since it doesn't seem to be prominently featured on the openSUSE website.

My experience with Fedora Silverblue is that Firefox is part of the base system image. From what I've read, after an update there's a bug that can reset the homepage to fedora.org. Also, Firefox can't be completely removed from the base image; it can only be hidden through additional configuration.

According to Gemini, openSUSE Aeon provides Firefox as a Flatpak, which means it can be completely uninstalled and replaced with another browser without affecting the system. Is that accurate?

I plan to test Aeon and draw my own conclusions, but I'd like to hear the opinions and experiences of people who use it daily.

Fedora Silverblue or openSUSE Aeon

What are the main differences between them? If you use or have used either one, could you share your experience, including the pros and cons?

One difference I found during my research is that Fedora Silverblue ships with Firefox as part of the base system. From what I've read, after updating Firefox, a bug can cause the homepage to revert to fedora.org. Also, Firefox can't be completely removed from the base image; it can only be hidden using an override. In contrast, openSUSE Aeon provides Firefox as a Flatpak, so it can be fully uninstalled and replaced with another browser without affecting the system.

My laptop has an Intel Core i5-12450H and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 6 GB. Considering this hardware, which distribution would you recommend?

Why isn't Firefox distributed as a Flatpak?

Since the philosophy behind Fedora Atomic is to keep only the essentials in the base system using rpm-ostree, why is Firefox installed by default instead of being provided as a Flatpak?

I don't like the Fedora-packaged version of Firefox, mainly because the fedora.org start page bug causes my custom settings to be reset after some updates.

What is the difference between removing the package with rpm-ostree uninstall and using rpm-ostree override?

Which approach is recommended if I want to remove the rpm-ostree version completely, as if it had never been installed?

Zorin OS or Fedora Everything?

I have a laptop with the following specs:

  • Intel Core i5-12450H
  • NVIDIA RTX 3050 (6 GB)
  • 512 GB SSD
  • 16 GB RAM

I've been a Windows user for the past 14 years. Recently, I decided to give Linux another shot. On my previous laptop, which had an AMD processor, I used Linux Mint, but I wasn't very happy with the overall experience.

Last year, I bought this new laptop, which came with Windows 11 pre-installed. At the time, it made sense, but I now regret that decision.

This month, I decided to finally embrace Linux, mainly because of the direction Microsoft has been taking with Windows. Personally, I don't think a future Windows K2 release will fix the issues that have built up over the years.

My usage is split about 50/50 between gaming and programming. I only play games through Steam, and my programming is strictly for learning and personal projects, nothing professional.

I also prefer distributions that support Secure Boot, since I'd rather not disable it.

The two distributions that have caught my attention are:

  • Zorin OS: I like that it feels familiar coming from Windows, and I've heard its NVIDIA support is quite good.
  • Fedora Everything: I like the idea of building my system from the ground up by installing only what I actually need.

For Fedora Everything, I'm thinking about setting up a virtual machine to experiment with it first. My plan would be to install a clean KDE Plasma desktop with no unnecessary software and use Flatpak for most applications.

My main question is about drivers: does Fedora Everything install only the essential drivers, or do I have to configure everything manually? Are there any important drivers that aren't included by default?

Based on your experience, which one would you recommend?

Nesta semana, baixei a ISO do Windows 11, gravei-a no Ventoy e consegui. Por que isso aconteceu?

Muita gente recomenda o Rufus. Ele é realmente bom? Quais são as diferenças entre ele e o Windows Media Creation Tool? O Rufus funciona normalmente com o Secure Boot? Pergunto porque, no Ventoy, preciso aceitar a chave no MOK para inicializar.

How do I limit package languages in DNF?

I want to install packages with only the en_US locale, but I can't get this to work through dnf.conf.

I added the following option:

override_install_langs=en_US

However, after saving the file, the setting does not appear when I run:

dnf config-manager --dump | grep "override_install_langs"

On Fedora 44 with DNF 5, has the command changed, or is there a different way to configure package language installation?

Is there a distro that installs only the essentials, without bloat?

I'm looking for a Linux distribution that installs only the bare minimum. I've been considering Arch Linux and Fedora Everything since both allow you to start with a minimal installation and build the system the way you want.

My goal is to have only the essentials, such as the kernel, drivers, and core system components. Everything else I'd install myself, for example, choosing between KDE Plasma and GNOME, installing only the components I actually need, and replacing default applications with my preferred ones, such as using VS Code instead of GNOME Text Editor.

I also plan to install most applications through Flatpak, including Firefox, and use Distrobox to keep development environments isolated.

One of the reasons is that many distributions come with preinstalled applications and tools that I don't use. For example, on Fedora I don't really want the distribution-packaged Firefox or Toolbox. Likewise, both KDE Plasma and GNOME tend to include many applications that I'd end up removing.

Is there a distribution that follows this philosophy of providing only the essentials and letting the user decide everything else?

For those who prefer building their systems this way, which distribution did you choose?

Is Arch Linux still as scary as people say?

I have a laptop with an Intel Core i5-12450H and an NVIDIA RTX 3050. I'm migrating from Windows to Linux, and after trying several distributions, the ones I liked the most were Arch Linux, Fedora, and Pop!_OS. I know no distribution is perfect, so here are the pros and cons I've found with each one.

  • What I liked most about Arch Linux is its KISS philosophy: install only what I actually need, without unnecessary packages.
  • With Fedora, I really like its commitment to open-source software and the Atomic approach, which isolates applications through Flatpak and Distrobox. However, I've also seen many reports that Fedora's Firefox is modified by the distribution and that some settings get reset. In fact, I experienced this myself today: I installed Fedora yesterday to test it, customized Firefox, and suddenly it reverted to its default settings, showing the /start page again.
  • Pop!_OS is an excellent choice for NVIDIA users since the drivers are integrated out of the box. On the other hand, its desktop environment, COSMIC, still seems to be maturing, and I've come across quite a few reports of bugs. If there were an official KDE Plasma or GNOME edition, it would probably be my first choice, but System76 decided to replace those environments entirely with COSMIC.

Both Arch Linux and Pop!_OS have one drawback for me: Secure Boot support. Since I'm still learning, I'd like to know whether it's a problem to leave Secure Boot disabled. I understand it adds an extra layer of security, but this is my personal computer and I'm the only one who uses it.

I'm a software developer, and I also enjoy gaming, especially on Steam, so I'm looking for a distribution that fits both my development workflow and gaming needs.

Which one would you recommend, and why?

Is Arch Linux really as intimidating as people say?

I've also heard about CachyOS, which is based on Arch Linux. Is it worth trying? What's been your experience with it?

Which Distro Should I Choose for an RTX?

I have an NVIDIA RTX GPU and use my laptop extensively for both programming and gaming. I previously used Linux Mint, especially on my old AMD-based laptop, where the experience was straightforward: install it and everything just worked.

Recently, I bought a new laptop with an RTX 3050 and I'm looking for a distribution that offers good support and compatibility with NVIDIA GPUs. I've seen a lot of conflicting opinions about Secure Boot, some people recommend disabling it, while others suggest keeping it enabled and I'm not sure which approach is best.

I've researched and tested several distributions, but I'm still undecided between Pop!_OS, Fedora, and CachyOS.

There are also many customized distros, such as Bazzite and Nobara Project, but I'd prefer something closer to upstream, without bloatware, while still providing solid NVIDIA driver support.

Based on your experience, which of these distributions would you choose, and why?
