No pics.. but new realization

So... the wife and I are celebrating our 11 yr anniversary in Portugal. Arrived in Lisbon today. We spent the day walking around Lisbon. There are SO MANY luxury watch boutiques... Rolex, Cartier, Breitling, Vacheron, omega, Tudor and more...

I've never really seen these pieces in person. And they ARE BEAUTIFUL!!!

BUT... in looking at them, seeing the prices. I have a new appreciation for my Seiko, Citizen, Casio and offer affordable brands. Nothing I own is over $700 and after seeing the others in person, I like my collection just as much, if not more, than the Luxury brands.

The one watch that caught my eye the more than any other watch today was an all metal GSHOCK at the Lisbon Airport.

I didn't think that was possible.

Not really sure of the purpose of this post, but I just felt like sharing.

Swimming with the mod

Just curious... After you've modded your Duro changing everything except the crystal, do you still trust it enough to go swimming with it? Or... do you take it a jewer /service area for a pressure test?

Smooth Sunday vibes......

Loving my Cincinnati Watch Company Union Terminal today. I don't wear it often because it's my dressiest watch and I baby the crapnout of it, but I am absolutely stunned at how beautiful this is every time I wear it.

A little late in the day, but what's everyone wearing today?

Frustratingly satisfying....

I've completed my first REAL mod. Changed the dial , hands and bezel. I wasn't really concerned with changing the crystal.

Thanks to everyone that helped me with information along the way.

Placing the hands especially the seconds hand was much more difficult than I anticipated.

Overall I am happy with the results.

Does the seconds hand look seated enough?

This is my first time replacing hands.... the hands tuen without obstruction, but Ive gone through 3 seconds hands....

Do the hands, particularly the seconds hand, look like its seated enough?

I've put quit a bit of pressure and it doesn't seem to seat any lower.

Thanks in advance... And thank you u/tenkasen for the great post/advice on the Rodico.

Why buy a watch if your not sure about the dealer?

I see so many posts about saying "I just bought this, is it fake"?

Yes, there are ALOT of fakes out there, and I for one would likely not be able to tell the difference through online photos. I'm just not that knowledgeable. But knowing that, I take EXTREME precautions when buying a watch. I know enough to make sure the dealer is reputable, read reviews and if there is even one sketchy review, I'll generally avoid it.

It only takes a little common sense and research when making a purchase. If it's an online purchase, I'll make sure its from AMAZON (easy returns - but I still research the seller) or from the actual website directly.

Will I pay a little more? SURE... but it's better to pay for peace of mind and know you're getting a legit watch, than lose the money on a fake that may or may not be able to be returned.

This may not be a HotTake, but I just don't understand those posts....

EDIT:..This post is not about buying from sketchy dealers.... It's about those that do, them worry about getting duped.. There are always exceptions, but it isn't hard to take a little time to research before you buy.

Can't make up my mind. Yay or Nay?

Not sure about this color combo on the bezel swap....

What say you.... Yay or Nay?

The best Duro I didn't mod

I have 6 Duros.... All of them (except my Bluro) have had some sort of mod whether it be a bezel swap, adding a cyclops or dial/hand change (still working on that one).

But of all of them I think my BLURO is my classiest. I changed the strap to a LIW Jubilee (I don't consider strap/bracelet changes as mods).

I started to change the bezel and add a cyclops, but the more I wear this, the more I appreciate it AS-IS..

It's just freakin fantastic!!!!

Santos homage

Hey all... i recently saw a post someone made that looked like they were selling a Seiko mod/santos homage. Not sure where it was, I'm interested in exploring this option, but not really intereted in building it myself.

Can some point me to a reputable source? Not really interested in Aliexpress type sources.

Duro seconds hands needed

Im hoping this is okay..... Does anyone have spare seconds hands they would like to sale? I don't want to order a full set just for the seconds hands.

Ideally, I'm looking for black or red.

Ive just broken two this morning trying to set them, so I need a few.

Also any ideas on how to avoid breaking them

Going from this(1)....to this(2)

Hello all, this is going to be my first REAL complete mod. I'm nervous, to say the least, as I'll be fumbling my way through this.

As I see it, these are the steps involved.

- remove bezel insert

- Open case

- remove movement/dial from case

- remove the crown

- remove hands

- remove dial from movement

- apply dial dots to movement

- attach new dial

- attach new hands

- place in case

- attach crown

- attach crystal (using stock)

- attach case back

- have pressure tested

That may be a simplified outline, but would love advice/confirmation or general comments on things I need to know or warch out for.

What am I missing??

Any recommended video tutorials to watch first?

Thanks in advance.

Am I overly cautious?

I know the answer to that question... And it's definitely - yes.

When buying a watch, I specifically look at WR. I will buy a 50m wr piece, but I try to stick 100 or above.

The Alpinist, a gift from my wife, is my prize possession. I'm thrilled to know that when we are on vacation, we can take a dip in the pool, or ocean, or wherever and I don't need to worry about it. (Yes, I know to keep the crown screwed down)

But.. so far, I ALWAYS choose my Duro for swimming. They still look great, and if something goes wrong, I can easily replace them.

Just curious.. How many of my fellow Alpinist enthusiasts actually swim with their watch on. Any issues? OR..... Do you also choose a less expensive, easier replaceable, watch?

Just feelin' it today

I usually reserve this watch for when Im doing yardwork or some sort of activity that could potentially scratch/damage other watches.

But I woke up today and selected my trusted 5610-u as my daily today.

It just felt right today.

Carryon pack recommendations

My wife and I are traveling Ryan Air from Lisbon to Madeira in August. I have an Osprey 40 back pack that measure 23 cm (website states 20cm for Ryan Air). It's soft sided and should compress as I don't plan on packing it tightly.

Does anyone have experience with this particular pack and whether or not it complies and fits?

EDIT: so to clear things up... YES.. its common sense to just buy a cheap one the fits.. as most of you like to say "FFS". very helpful , by the way....

The point of this post was asking a legitimate question. In doing the research, it was stated that the Osprey 40l (which I've been using for years) would fit if not over-filled and could be compressed.
So the question was: did anyone have any experience with THIS SPECIFIC BAG.

I wasn't asking for a bunch of nonhelpful responses from tough guy keyboard warriors.

Thanks to those that offered legitimate responses.

Duro where it belongs

Went boating and swimming today.. I had several watches to choose from. A LIW Northport, 2 Duros and a Casioak.

The Duro won out.... AGAIN. This is my goto watch (duro) for all things water. I'm just super comfortable with this watch in the water. I know ALL the others are just as good, but to me this one will get the nod 9 out of 10 times.

Revived and refreshed

I posted about a week ago about sitting my Gm2100 on my smart watch charger. It did something and I couldn't get it set the time. Figured I broke it.

Not sure how, but tried again and got it set and is working great.

I bought a gbm2100 in the meanwhile and it's my new favorite. BUT.. I replaced the strap.

I took the bkack resin strap from my gbm2100 and put it on my gm2100 and WOW... it REALLY elevated the look of th gm2100...

I like the looks of the gm2100 so much more than I did...
