Flagellant clutches my Confession run because he is bored (DD2)
Finally playing Darkest Dungeon 2 after playing the first one for so long, but is just me or do any of you guys hate the loathing system too?
The loathing system in my opinion just sucks balls to go against, I get that it's supposed to be a replacement for the trap system in the first, but traps were just a hinderance and didn't affect your whole run (usually, sometimes they could screw you over.) Loathing is just unfun though. You go down a route because it has something for a hero goal or a region goal and you end up screwing yourself over because the game decided to toss 3 loathing zones and a loathing location at you with no fights to clear the loathing. Sometimes you literally cannot escape loathing because every location up ahead has loathing. At least you could disarm traps for a chance to get away scot free! This just feels like the game going "haha, you made the mistake of wanting to play efficiently! Here's 10% more health to the boss and a quirk that messes up your party comp while you're at it!" Loathing feels like a Fear and Hunger mechanic in the worst way possible of literally telling you that you might as well give up your expedition because you rolled badly, I wouldn't mind loathing if it wasn't for the health increases for the boss, like if it was just negative perks and stress, I can work around that! If I wipe out because of some bad rolls during combat, at least I feel like I night have been able to win if I strategize differently, loathing is like watching someone load the dice in front of you and then expecting you to keep playing "just cause", it really ticks me off.
