Katana Bugged in MP?
Maybe I’m doing something wrong or it’s supposed to be this way but every time I try to attack with the Katana nothing happens. The animation plays but the enemy won’t die or take damage. Special attacks like finishing moves, sliding kills and some jumping attacks do work but I’m not sure what would be causing normal attacks to not work at all
Games/Sets that require numerous play throughs
I was curious and started to look for sets that required numerous play throughs and was surprised by what I found. A rom hack of Pokémon Red/Blue called Regulation Red/Blue has a set where you beat the entire game using only 1 Pokémon. You have to patch the rom so you get a specific Pokémon at the beginning. There’s an achievement for beating the game with each Pokédex entry so a total of 151 play throughs.
Final Fantasy 1 lets you pick a party of 4 characters and choose 6 different classes for each member. There’s an achievement set for beating each boss every single type of party combination which is a total 126 of play throughs.
I was wondering if anyone knew if anyone knew of any other sets that also required an extremely high number of play throughs for the mastery
Pokémon Red Safari Zone Achievement Update
The notorious “Have Fun” achievement in Pokémon Red has now been separated into 4 easier achievements. Originally the achievement required you to catch Chansey, Kangaskhan, Tauros and Scyther in one single safari run. These Pokémon already had low encounter rates to begin with but you also had to stretch your 500 steps and 30 safari balls to try and catch all 4 of them.
Some users including me reported taking multiple hours get this achievement just because you had bad rng and couldn’t get the last Pokémon you needed. Now you just have to catch these 4 Pokémon on seperate runs which is a welcome change as I personally felt like this achievement was probably the most frustrating one.
If I had to pick another achievement to be reworked it would be the one for finding all the non-missable items on the over world. Unless you’re using a guide your entire playthrough you’ll probably miss at least one item and since the achievement is for the entire over world you have no specific place to check and will just have to go to each area to see if this is where you missed something.
I feel like it should be segmented into different achievements for a group/set of locations. That way if you missed something you’ll have a better idea of where to narrow down your search. Regardless I’m glad “Have Fun” was broken down into 4 more manageable achievements.
Mastery #4 The Legend of Zelda (NES)
A great set and I really felt like I memorized the overworld map like the back of my hand. There were definitely some frustrating aspects of the set, primarily dealing with wizrobes in my swordless run as they only took damage from bombs. You had to place them carefully because if you ran out you’d have to leave the dungeon and stock up which would reset the enemy spawns and you’d be back where you started against the wizrobes.
I ended up doing 4 playthroughs:
1st Quest ringless (no armor upgrades)
1st Quest in one sitting deathless and no saving
1st Quest sword less
2nd Quest sword less
Technically you could condense these runs but each run already had a handicap so double dipping on the difficulty felt too much for me.
If I had to pick one achievement to remove/change it’d probably be the achievement for beating the game without dying or save & quit which basically means 1 sitting no deaths. It’s not a long game especially if you have a guide but I had to so much anxiety that something would go wrong, the game glitching, internet issues, RetroArch/Steam crashing etc… Surprisingly enough something did happen, luckily after I earned the achievement. The day I got the achievement there was a massive thunderstorm in my area and I ended up losing power. I can’t help but feel what if I had ran an errand or done anything in general to delay my playthrough I could have lost power in the middle of my run. Realistically that’s extremely rare but still the fact that this happened not long after doing a long achievement where I couldn’t save and not any other time does make me paranoid.
Nonetheless this was still an amazing set and as corny as it sounds I felt like I really “mastered” this game. I went from pausing this game every 2 minutes to check a guide/map to entering a flow state where everything became second nature. The overworld map, dungeon layouts, farming spots, optimal routes, it all made me feel like I genuinely learned and mastered every aspect of this game. Like the achievement list were a list of questions I had to study for a test and I was now an expert on the material. I’m looking forward to playing the rest of the Zelda series on here.
Survival auto battler with inventory management
NIKKE the mobile gacha game introduced a mini game where you have a stationary character at the bottom of the screen that survives waves and waves enemies. Each round you have a choice of different weapons/items to add to your inventory. Your inventory is limited but expands every few rounds so you have to organize your items to maximize the space you’re using so you can survive the next few rounds until the next power-up/inventory increase. I find this extremely fun and addicting and am curious if there are any games that basically do this as their entire gameplay loop. PC and Mobile recommendations are both welcome
Upcoming Game Tabletop Tavern
This might not fit the sub but I was looking around for new games and stumbled upon this. It’s a rougelike RTS where you command armies on a physical table. Again might not necessarily be a Wargame but I’d figure someone in this sub might enjoy it
