Karen Incident: Trying to forget about it

NYC. Took my drone to Central Park. I have a license and had a permit for the day to fly in the area (you need. permit AND a land/take off permit for $150 for a day and I had both and was cleared to fly in the park). Im flying the drone and a

Karen comes over to me, accusing me of being discourteous, says shes a cop (lie that went unchallenged) then her other Karen friend who works for the Parks Dept comes over, chiming in asking if I have a permit. I do.

FWIW Im mixed race white and asian/black and look brown. Im not confrontational by nature so I went into this calmly. Then she starts talking about how the drone is loud, annoying etc. I said "I have just as much a right to be in this park doing what Im doing as you do. Im not even going to be here that long." She insists that I cease immediately as she is bird watching and the drone is scaring the birds. I said "had you started with that, this would have been a much more peaceable interaction." She then said "yeah maybe I shouldnt have said that" but she and her friend (they were like mid to late 40s) kept talking about how I need a quieter drone, etc.

I grew tired of it all and moved on. As I was walking, this young white dude said to me "dude, no one else what bothered by your drone."

Every time I walk out the door, some bullshit happens. Exhausting and now I have to try and wipe this shit from my memory as I tend to dwell on things.

How do you ppl simply STOP thinking about something untoward that has happened?

The Closer You Get To God The More..

Attacks come from the enemy. My mind has been a battleground of intense fighting over the past few days. The "What Ifs" the feeling of not being secure, wondering if your accomplishments are accomplishments at all, all sorts of bombarding errant thoughts.

Last night I woke to find I was grinding my teeth and that hasnt happened since I was young.

Im definitely facing a changing season, which is very scary for a person like me who likes consistency and structure. I have to step out like I did years ago and its terrifying.

So, Im in the Word, talking to God and listening to sermons, and the attacks INTENSIFY. Im sure Im not the only one.

Lease/Rent Stabilized NYC

My best friend has been living with his elderly "uncle" for 10 years. Turns out, its not his uncle but his father's best friend. My friend's dad died and my friend moved in with his dad's best friend.

The "uncle" who is 77 just went into assisted living but not because of health, but convenience, amenities and the fact that he's 100% covered.

He told my friend he wants to keep the apt but not to tell the super if he asks where he is. If the uncle keeps paying the rent and utilities and renewing the lease, but doesnt live there full time (all his stuff is still there), can my friend continue living there without issue?

I know nothing about roommates or laws in NYC so I thought I would ask.

Disgusting Roommate Story

My best friend is roommates with an older member of his family. 60+ That member is absolutely disgusting. Leaves dirty spoons all over, pics up furniture off the street which has caused a bedbug problem for 3 years.

Has an absolutely disgusting room with dirty cups, bowls and old mail envelopeson the bed, a sh*t stained mattress, piss bottles used for peeing into late at night when he doesnt want to get up and go to the bathroom at night.... and its just gross.

Its rent stabilized and my friend only pays $150 of the rent, in NYC no less and his room is clean, but the other room is adjacent and disgusting.

My friend is scared to move because he cant afford NYC rent. Asked to move in with me and my GF in our 2 bedroom but I said no. Have to respect my GF's wishes.

Anyone have similar horror stories? I went to my friends place once and swore never to return. Its tragic.

Pachy Gracilius Question

I just got a small gracilius from abroad, Asia, from a reputable dealer. Its literally like 1.5 inches wide but has 3 nice protruding branches - baby plant

I repotted it as soon as I got it. A few of the leaves fell off during transit, but Im sure the plant is still alive because the roots look great.

How long before this plant settles and starts to grow new leaves? It is planted in grainy/gritty soil as many websites recommend.

I'd love to show you the plant but, having watched this forum for a long time, I dont want to be verbally assaulted and questioned about poaching.

So, how long before these things settle?

Thanks!

Trying not to get DOWN! Its time to move on.

To be honest, Im one of those people who waits until the last minute. In college I would literally wait until the day before a paper was due and write it. And I always got an A or B! I recall one professor saying "you must have put so much time into this!" I laughed

My life is like that too. I always wait until the last minute to jump, sever ties, move on or take the plunge. Its frustrating!

Now Im dealing with a situation I should have dealt with years ago and it SUCKS! My parents own a few townhouses and I live in one of them, rent free for 10 years. Not even utilities. Now one of them is facing health issues and they are selling.

Ive stood by my Dad's side throughout his health issues and he calls me a "good son" compared to my 2 brothers who cant be bothered. He knows that selling is destabilizing in a way, for me, but I said "Dad, your health and funding your health battle is more important. I will start looking for a place ASAP.

So I have to move from the cushy life Ive had and face the problems most ppl face like rent and whatnot. I should have done this a while ago.

Dorstenia Gigas. Wake up And Water?

Dont you just LOVE IT when your Dorstenia (Gigas) starts growing like a weed? Mine is!

Wanted to ask, I have the plant in about 65% organic 35% inorganic mix and the previous owner did too. For two years that mix has proved viable and the plant is thriving. That said, the mix drains and dries FAST.

Im going on holiday in just a bit. About 10 days. Will this plant be able to manage without water during that time? Normally it would be outside in full sun, but maybe I should bring it in, put it it indirect sun on the inner window sill and water it once while Im gone?

Any suggestions?

Social Media: The Current Driving Force

Im convinced that social media has greatly contributed to the negative change in how people communicate, live day to day, enjoy benchmark moments and operate within this sphere of living.

SM started out as a great tool for connectivity, but of course, its now polluted. Ppl competing with each other, stalking each other, getting on line and then coming off depressed (comparison is a thief to joy) and trying to up their game.

Youve got ppl posting pics of their homes, the innards of their homes, their kids, their haircuts, their toilet bowls, anything to get engagement.

I have deactivated all social media except reddit which I primarily used to get information.

I have friends whose potential partners ask how many followers they have, this that and the other. Social media has greatly complicated life, and the future is bleak.

Sun Needs: Dorstenia Gigas

What are the sun needs of a Dorstenia Gigas? Some say full on, others say indirect, all agree a plant should be acclimatized no matter what you do.

For those of you who own a Dorstenia Gigas does it prefer direct sun or indirect. And if direct, can it stand the full 10am t0 16:00 intensity sunlight?

How Can I Help This Plant Along?

This plant is native to Socotra.

The seller said she missed a huge spot of rot on the top of the caudex and refunded me. I was going to throw it away but decided to nurse the plant.

After cutting out the rot, I put sulphur on it so it could heal. A week later I made the mistake of putting it in the sun. Im guessing the sulphur burned away the skin (it rained later that day and then the sun came out again) and the sulphur had dripped onto the caudex.

Its still growing leaves but this big area of peeled skin is concerning. Will it heal? Also, the caudex is still firm. Hard as a rock.

I make sure it is watered only when dry and the soil is, as instructed, fast draining.

Any thoughts?

Social Media: The Matrix = Modern Day Plague

I hate conspiracy theories. I hate long elaborate tales of how ppl are being subverted, esp tales that tend to be dramatic and fantastic.

That said, I had a thought the other day. I deleted all my social media but reddit, which I primarily use to share and gather information.

Instagram has been shut as well as facebook and tik tok. Why? Its literally a matrix like the movie. An alternate world where you put on different skin, present differently and begin to function as a desired version of yourself, or the version the world tells you you should be.

I believe social media and what it has become, is one of the worst things to happen to mankind. Its akin to the deadly black plague of the Dark Ages.

That said, Im done with it.

Pachypodium Root System look OK?

I posted about this yesterday and removed the post until I could take photos of the roots. This plant was owned by an old man who collected pachys and other exotic plants, many! He passed away 3 weeks ago at the age of 81. He and his wife were my neighbors.

His wife, knowing me and my lady like plants, gave me four plants. Turns out two of them are Gracilius which he bought 15+ years ago when doing such things was legal. They came from somewhere in asia but his journal didnt say where. He said "the orient" which is what a lot of old ppl still say.

His wife found a diary he kept of his plants, motorcycles and vintage cars, this after I asked her about the plants and she didnt know. So she went looking.

Anyway, this is a pachy she gave me. Do the roots look OK? The caudex now seems firm but isnt this a small root system for a fair sized plant?

What is this on this Dorstenia

Is this sunburn or something else? The brown stuff at the top, dont pay attention to it. Im talking about the yellow blotches. If you zoom in, it looks like when human skin peels after a burn. I dont know what the heck it is but I hope it isnt deadly. Plant is still growing as normal.

Soft Caudex? Replanting or Rot?

My neighbor had a zillion plants and is moving after her husband passed. She had a yard sale and beforehand actually gave me a few plants. Im not sure what species this is but she did say its a pachypodium. She had it in a plastic pot. I replanted it about 2 weeks ago in very rocky soil.

I know that when you replant a plant, it takes time for the roots to stabilize. She hadnt watered it before she gave it to me and told me to water. it. Since then it has been in the sun quite a bit and there is an area of the caudex that is slightly soft, but so are a few other caudex plants i repotted after she gave them to me - I got about 4 different types.

Does this look like rot? and what type of plant is this? I wanted to question her more, but shes still emotional after her husband's death so I didnt press her.
