Lord Of All Fevers And Plague

Lord Of All Fevers And Plague

From Morbid Angel's track Lord Of All Fevers And Plague:

Ia iak sakkakh ia sakkakth

Ia shaxul

Ia kingu ia cthulu ia azbul

Ia azabua

Is this an actual quote from Lovecraft or just something they made up? I find they seem to mix Lovecraft and actual Babylonian deities quite a bit. The above song mentions Pazuzu and Ninnghizhidda (both Babylonian) in the verses but the chorus has the cries of Ia and Cthulu (both Lovecraft) and then there's also the names Shaxul, Azbua and Azabul which I'm not finding any info on other than Azabul may be Arabic in origin.

Not to be taken seriously, of course. However if the chorus is taken from Lovecraft can someone point me to a source? Cheers.

Picture added because why not.

I have questions for the plastics engineers re glass transition temp

I am not an engineer, just a guy trying to understand. Please be patient if my question seems stupid.

I was looking at the glass transition temps of various filaments I use and I see that the GTT of PA isn't that much more than PLA. In fact it seems more in line with something like PETG. The GTT of ABS on the other hand is high, relatively speaking.

PLA is often criticized for having a low GTT but PA isn't. Why is that? I bought some PA a while back, did a test print which I then held under the hot water tap and the part deformed. I know that the PA melting temp is considerably higher than PLA but deformed is still deformed, right? So what are the benefits of PA. And why is it considered better than even ABS with it's GTT of roughly 20°C more?

TIA

I referring to standard filaments, nothing GF/CF filled.

Is this mating behaviour?

I have 6 Synodontis petricolas. Two seemed to have paired up and have in the last two days partially burrowed under a large rock i.e. they made themselves a little cave. There are tons of hidey-holes in the hardscape as it is and until the last few days I hadn't noticed any pairing up going on so this is new, at least for me. Is this mating behaviour for this species?

Canister filter cleaning

To all canister filter users:

How often do you clean out the piping i.e. the intake and outlet spouts and the pipes between the tank and filter? And do you switch it off during water changes?

TIA

Custom shelf

I wanted a small shelf to fill in a space next to my aquarium but there were switches for the blinds that were quite low on the wall and I couldn't find anything that fit into the space so... Plasticity and 3D printing to the rescue.

The design work itself was pretty straightforward. I used Bumpmesh on the shelf board to create the wood grain texture.

This was printed on my H2Ds with Bambu PLA black and black walnut. It took a while, the wood grain texture in particular is quite time consuming but once that was done everything was glued together and that's it, finished.

A fun and easy project.

Just watched the new movie. Twice. Here are my thoughts...

TL;DR: Wow, Just wow. Absolutely loved it.

This film went in a direction I wasn't expecting. And that kept me watching. Overall it was well put together and despite the intentional goofiness it came across as a quality product that a lot people people put a lot dedication into. In fact, the goofiness really helps to set it apart from other superhero movies that take themselves very seriously despite being completely unrealistic.

Things I liked:

- Idris Elba was a fantastic Man-At-Arms.

- Trapjaw was an absolute unhinged psychopath, as in the original comics. It's good they stuck with that. Previously he was often portrayed as a bumbling idiot.

- The sets were very detailed. Brings a whole new view on Eternia. Yes, I know they're CG, they gave us so much more than the comics though.

- The soundtrack... good God. The end credit song is gold. GOLD!! Getting Brian May onboard is unreal.

- The fact that this doesn't take itself too seriously works in it's favour. Makes the film a lot more fun.

- I loved seeing characters that were - at least in the past - usually unimportant side characters, like Ram Man, Fisto, Spikor, Mekanek, Karg... Karg? He wasn't even part of the vintage line. And yet, there he was.

- Randor. A strong character and very well portrayed. 10/10 for Randor.

Things I didn't like:

- A lot of the conversation had a strong millenial vibe. Thought that was odd considering the original viewership and as a GenXer it felt a little off. I wouldn't score the film lower because of it though. It is what it is, I guess.

- Way too little Tri-klops. One of my favourite characters as a kid and as Skeletor's lead engineer and weapons expert I didn't like him come and go almost in passing.

- A fair number of characters that did not appear at all, especially from the first and second wave: Man-E-Faces, Merman, Stratos, Zodac. Even some third wave characters like Jitsu would have slayed.

Overall though this was brilliant. I assume Skeletor is out of the question for a sequel so it'll probably be Hordak up next. I'm all for that. Seeing the slime pit and fright zone in movie format would be awesome. But then there was the She-Ra hint at the end, so there's that too. Time will tell. Until then I will watch it a few more times. I will mostly likely get all the new figures too... Tri-klops and Trapjaw are already on the way. I would never have thought that this franchise would hit so hard over forty years later. Well done to all involved.

Lastly, a small request to the director: if no new MOTU film is on the cards, please consider a Thundercats movie instead.

Nitrite levels at 0,7ppm... how bad is this.

Just so it's been said: this is all my fault. Added fish to a tank that was not properly cycled. I'm an idiot, I know. Right now I want to save my fish and keep them healthy.

Nitrite spiked and is currently at around 0.7ppm. Have done water changes (25% yesterday and 45% today) that didn't really help. Also added an airstone and some sera toxivec. Didn't feed yesterday either. So far there has been no change in the nitrite levels so it looks like I'm in this for the long haul.

The fish seem unbothered by all this so far. I know it's not good for them but I can't think of anything else apart from doing what I already am. Not touching the filter either until this is sorted. Still, if any one has suggestions I'm all ears.

Can I replicate this Windows feature in Mint?

In Windows Explorer I used to use large thumbnails. When I'd browse through my CAD files/photos/mp3s/etc in Explorer the thumbnail would show a preview of that file along with the icon of the file format in one of the corners. Can Mint do this too?

Suggestions for inhabitants

I have a Rio 350 with (currently) 17 fish: 10x congo tetras, 4x petricolas, 1x bichir and 2x kribensis. As you can see from the photo it looks kinda empty. So I'm open to suggestions.

My thinking is to get 10 more congos and 2 or 3 more petricolas. My theme here is recreating an African river so I looking primarily at fish that are native to central and west Africa. A shoal of 20 or so congos would be pretty cool. I'm wary with cichlids, most are either too aggro or just act like tank bulldozers. Something in the mid or upper swim range would be interesting though.

Thoughts?

FWIW: once the Vallis at the back left is long enough I'm looking at butterflyfish. That'll take a while though.

icons used by death metal bands

Some death metal bands have an icon that listeners will immediately associate with that band. For example: Morbid Angel have that pentagram with the triangle, inverted cross and a six in it. Deicide have the trifixion, Cannibal Corpse have that fetus skeleton.

I'm not talking about album covers or band logos. Obviously those would correlate to a band. Instead this is an icon or symbol that does not contain the band name or album name but will immediately link to band because only that band would use it.

Can anyone think of others?

(another example would be the skull thing from Misfits, but they're obviously not death metal.

Replacement motor bushing for Makita drill

A colleague has an old (15 year old) Makita drill where the teeth in the bushing that engage the 1st gear have completely worn down. Since a replacement part couldn't be found the request was to reverse engineer the part and print it. All CAD was done with Plasticity.

Measuring the existing part is simple enough, we had to guess with regard to the teeth on the inside though. We have no way of measuring the original height of the teeth as they are worn away so it was a case of looking at the gearing itself and making an educated guess. Then the entire thing was printed out on my H2D's. I printed two versions: the grey one is Sunlu PA-GF25, the beige one is Bavaria Filaments PETG.

This was my first time printing with glass-filled nylon. Not a bad material at all, although no quite as clean finish-wise as the PETG. In the last photo you see the lugs that were printed using ABS as support material. Looks a bit messy but is dimensionally spot-on. For the PETG I used PLA as support material.

Both parts fit and work. I reckon the PA-GF25 part will last longer but only time will tell.

New printer day

Ordered a second H2D and two more AMS's. Now I just gotta wait for first printer to finish the purge bucket before I can put it on the table and start it up... 1,5 hours to go. 😬

Fwiw I ordered it yesterday morning at 9:17 and it got delivered today at just after 11. That's less than 26 hours. Great service from Bambu.

u/RetroLenzil — 2 months ago

A question for the H2C owners...

Since this printer has 7 nozzles does that mean that one would need 2 AMS's to get full use out of it? According to the website the H2C combo comes with only one AMS, which seems to defeat the purpose of having so many nozzles. Maybe I've missed something but from what I see on the machine two AMS's seems to be the only way to get full use out of it...

Peavey Millenium BXP bass... any good?

Saw one for sale and it looks good but I have no idea if they're actually good or just cheap and nasty. It looks in good condition. I have no opportunity to try it out so I thought maybe someone here might shed some insight.

I don't need it. I have a fleet of MiG Warwicks, I just thought the Peavey looked cool.

That's a first...

The filament pierced the ptfe tube just after the ams. Never seen that before. Easy fix, just thought I'd share...

Mausole-urn

A 3D printed mausoleum that functions as an urn for cremated remains. A mausole-urn. Before my sister passed away last year she discussed the various types of urns, etc none of which really appealed to her. She suggested I make her a mausoleum. This is the result of that.

JUST TO BE CLEAR: I am not handling raw ashes. They are already in a receptacle which is being placed in the printed mausoleum. Everything is safe, properly contained and respectfully handled. The two compartments on the side are for dessicant pouches because why not.

Printed on my H2D with BL PLA black, BL PLA wood and Winkle PLA marble. 0,4mm nozzle, 0,1mm layer height, 3 walls and 8% infill. I modelled it in Plasticity. The grid-like parts that create the two side compartments are print with BL white PLA, 0,2 layer height with a 0,6mm nozzle.

She would've have loved this. RIP.
