Last night at my FIL’s birthday dinner, my MIL suddenly asked my wife and I what we thought of Mamdani, and then started saying she’s scared of socialism and communism coming from him. I tried to shut down the discussion, and said I most of that is fear mongering, and hoped the conversation would change. My FIL started to talk about the person he was thankful for on Thanksgiving: Trump.

It was a bit surreal, but I kind of just unleashed a whole lot of information neither of my in laws have ever heard about Trump, with my FIL piping in with I’m sure the left wing owned media (or other various far right talking points) is telling you that. What seemed to potentially strike a cord is that someone like Trump should never be given power as look what messages it sends to the future generations: to get power and become rich you can be a corrupt and immoral asshole, and young men are learning that is how you can treat women. Also, that conservative billionaires now own most of the media, and Trump is doing their bidding.

This probably won’t change anything (although my wife told me her Mom did vote for Obama at least once), but maybe it cracked their bubble a tiny bit. I think it helps that they highly respect me, and are not truly deranged MAGA members.

The drive from Grant Grove to Cedar Grove in Kings Canyon is absolutely spectacular. Really awe inspiring; as of the course the sequoias are. The marmot was at the top of Big Baldy. Was fortunate enough to see a post from someone that the Crystal Cave Tours was open, and got tickets.

Day one: General Sherman Tree Area, Moro Rock, Crystal Cave, Crescent Meadow.

Day two: Big Baldy, Ranger Talk, drive through Canyon, General Grant Tree Area.
