When did true understanding of the tragedy hit you?

When I was a kid, I really loved the idea of exploring sunken ships and lost treasure, so the idea of the titanic was fun playground for my imagination to run rampant through.

So, when my local museum opened an exhibit on the disaster, you can bet I begged for my parents to take me to see it. I was so excited to see it. I felt like I was going on some adventure. But then I actually got there.

At first, it was a bunch of set pieces designed to imitate the cabins, decks and compartments aboard the ship with a smattering of artifacts and displays. I was running around to see everything, laughing, pointing and having a great time. But that changed when I got to the section labeled April 15th, 1912.

I couldn’t see inside. It was dark, and I’m pretty sure the staff had jacked up the AC so this section was extra cold. But what really scared me was the sudden, rising chorus of screams playing over the display speakers.

I asked my dad what it was, and he, always the blunt man, simply said “they’re dying, OP.”

That’s when I first really understood what was lost that night on the Atlantic. Up to that point, being maybe 5 or 6, I’d never really thought about how terrifying it all was. I always imagined how exciting it would be to race for the boats while the ship sank. I never really thought of what it would be like to stand on the deck and watch them drift away.

I didn’t run around much after that. I still had a good time, but I couldn’t help but be sad when I saw pictures of the ship anymore.

“I didn’t hear no bell”

Star Wars: The Mandalorian

“If you kill me, I’m taking as much of you with me as I can”

Spy X Family

Goblin Slayer

Yet again and again, he gets back up like a goddamn monster, his silence saying everything his foes need to know…

“I’m going to fucking kill you.”

[Hated Trope] Character’s backstory is retconned to be part of some grand conspiracy or to make their becoming heroes predestined or part of some grand design.

The Amazing Spider-Man (Earth 616) - Peter’s Parents were actually Secret Agents

Turns out Peter Parker wasn’t just a good-hearted example of the common man. He was actually the son of two super spies! That’s why he’s so smart and competent. Of course no normal person could be a hero. He had to have some incredible lineage!

Give me a fucking break.

Batman: Earth Prime - Court of the Owls

Turns out that the murder of Thomas and Martha Wayne in crime alley wasn’t actually a random mugging gone wrong, but a small part of a secret society’s design to control the fate of Gotham!

Oh! And they actually orchestrated the murder of the Flying Graysons too so they could turn Dick Grayson into a master assassin!!! Oooh!!!!!

Yea, fuck off. How goddamn cliche can you get? That’s CW levels of stupid.

You drastically overestimated your own importance

The Priestess’ Party - Goblin Slayer

In the very first episode, we are presented with a plucky group of adventurers who, in any other story, would have been our main cast.

We are then made to bear witness to this gutsy group being ripped limb from limb, eaten alive, and raped by a rather minor Goblin infestation.

If not for the intervention of the Title Character, none of them would have survived.

Joffrey “Baratheon” - Game of Thrones

After blindly and stupidly deconstructing the realm and driving away anyone who he could count on as an ally, the Inbred boy is killed at his own wedding, having the nerve to seem genuinely surprised that someone would actually succeed in killing him.

Yor desperately needs to evolve

I enjoy her character very much, but she seems to be stuck in a rut in terms of development, which tends to be swept under the rug by scenes of her getting drunk, feeling awkward in moments of romantic tension, or her wasting the bad guy of the week’s henchmen.

Loid has been getting so much development and evolving as a father and husband as well as exploring his own motivations and desires.

At most, Yor has asked “why am I doing this?” before gutting several dozen people in a wild, violent battle to the death.

[Meta/Funny Trope] Marketing did not understand the material they were selling.

Stick and Angel - Lilo & Stitch

If you’ve been to any retail outlet or online shop searching for Disney products, you’ve probably seen Stitch hugging or snuggling with a pink female version of himself with little cutesy taglines like “my little monster” or “we’re weirder together.”

Well, for those who aren’t aware, the pink version of Stitch, Angel, was introduced in Lilo & Stitch: The Series, where the driving plot is Lilo and Stitch trying to capture the other 625 experiments Jumba created before retiring from villainy, all of whom are referred to and considered to be Stitch’s cousins.

Granted the show also pushes a romance between them despite establishing that the experiments are all family, but still, kind of a weird thing.

HBO’s Red vs. Green Campaign - House of the Dragon

The whole point of the story of Dance of the Dragons is just how unfit to rule both factions are and how thoughtless the conflict’s instigators were in starting it.

Both the Reds and Greens are terrible leaders and equally bad people. They don’t bat an eye for the countless innocent people they slaughter or the irreparable damage and suffering they inflicted.

It is purely a battle of spoiled, entitled idiots with more money and power than sense and how elevating such reprehensible people to stations of political power can and will cause nothing but pain.

But HBO markets it like you’re picking a Hogwarts House.

This scene is either going to be really funny or horribly heartbreaking. There is no in-between with this show

Just saw the trailer for S4:E2.

Advertising is often misleading, so I could imagine this still being accompanied by the plucky, goofy background music.

But something about Ted’s face and how swiftly Coach Chilton moves to assist, I could very easily see this being the first big emotional punch of season 4.

I’m very confused about the dub release schedules.

My wife and I are big fans of You and I are Polar Opposites. To my understanding, the dub premieres a week after the sub for most (if not all) anime on crunchyroll.

However, there are now two sub episodes and no sign of the dub. Am I missing something?

[Loved Trope] Character picks a fight, not knowing how fucked they are in doing so.

Magni and Modi: God of War 2018

The sons of Thor boast, mock, and jeer at an old man and his son, not knowing that said old man is the absolute last person they should be fucking with. In the end, their hubris and stupidity in the face of the most prolific god-killer ever was, needless to say, really fucking stupid.

“Manners Maketh Man.” Kingsman: The Secret Service 2014

A group of knuckle-dragging, mouth breathing thugs unknowingly pick a fight with an impeccably trained gentleman spy who has spent years fighting and killing some of the most dangerous people on earth. It does not play out in their favor.
