I need justice for Orla, this was horrible.

I finally got around to watching the post-timeskip arc of Horizons. I avoided it because of time and everyone saying it was terrible, but I wanted to give it a chance. Roy's Lucario annoyed me to no end, but I settled for coming up with my own headcanons and just pretending Lucario had a personality.

But nothing can fix this.

Orla had one of the best reactions to the reformation of the Rising Volt Tacklers. Everybody else was sad, sure. But Orla clearly has a connection to Freide and is the only one who was still mourning his death.

Then she pours her heart out, and for what, a silly joke about Mega Starmie resembling a human? To poke fun at Freide for being inobservant? Or they just wanted some payoff for her grieving without accidentally making a scene that could be considered romantic?

Seriously, was there an actual reason for this other than, "Oh, let's sneak a reference to the Pokédex entry here."

FAQ: Should I Purify? A guide to Purification in Pokémon Go

Many people seem curious if they should purify their newly caught Shadow Pokémon. So, here's your one-stop guide to purification and Shadow Pokémon! Let me know if there's anything I missed!

What are Shadow Pokémon?

Shadow Pokémon are obtained from GO Rocket Grunts, GO Rocket Leaders, Giovanni, and Shadow Raids. They have a 20% increase in their damage output, a 20% decrease in their defenses, and cost a lot more to power up compared to their normal counterparts. Shadow Pokémon are obtained with the Charged move Frustration, which is useless in all forms of battle. However, during "Rocket Takeover" events, this move can be removed via a regular Charged TM. No need for an Elite TM.

Shadow Pokémon obtained from Team Rocket fights do not have an IV floor (meaning their IVs can be any value from 0-15). Pokémon obtained from Shadow Raids have a minimum IV floor of 6.

Additionally, Shadow Pokémon cannot mega evolve. Nor can they be traded.

What Does Purification do?

Purification is a mechanic in Pokémon that can be used to make Shadow Pokémon easier to power up, at the expense of hindering their full potential. Upon purification, the Shadow Pokémon will:

  1. Instantly jump to level 25 (Its level will not increase if it's already past this stage).
  2. Gain +2 in all its IVs (Spoiler: Not as impactful as one may believe)
  3. Lose their attack bonus and defense debuff, making them as effective as their normal counterpart.
  4. Cost less stardust and candy to power up, evolve, and learn a second charged move compared to their normal counterpart.
  5. Gain the ability to Mega Evolve.
  6. Replace their first charged move with Return, a more powerful Normal-type Move.

A note about Return: your first charged move will be replaced with Return no matter what. This is also true if your Pokémon has a legacy move like Hydro Cannon.

Purifying a Pokémon will also unlock its purified form in the Pokédex and make it available for trading.

(Note: Neither shadow nor purified Pokémon are incapable of fusion, which is mainly relevant in the case of Reshiram and Zekrom at the time of writing.)

Should You Purify?

Easy answer: 90% of the time, you should not purify your Pokémon. Purification removes the attack bonus for the shadow Pokémon, and most of the time, this is detrimental in raids and even PvP. Essentially, purification makes the Pokémon easier to power up in the moment at the cost of its full potential.

Now, when should you purify your Pokémon? Here are the cases I believe are best:

  1. It's the most practical option. Having a high-level purified Pokémon is still more useful than a low-level shadow Pokémon. So, if you're a lower-level trainer and you want a better raid attacker, this may be the best option. HOWEVER, I would caution against purifying any shadow Pokémon that is potentially limited in availability. So, if possible, get two shadow Pokémon and save the better one for later, purifying the other if you need something now.
  2. Getting a 100% Pokémon. Using the appraisal function, you can check your Pokémon's IVs, which max out at 15 each. If your Pokémon's IVs are all at or above 13, you can purify them to max out their IVs, getting a purified "hundo" and adding another slot to your dex. Do note that this is a personal decision rather than a practical one in most cases. Having slightly better IVs is a minuscule change compared to the damage bonus from being a Shadow Pokémon. So, if you want to do this, it's best to at least have a second Shadow Pokémon with good attack.
    • On that note, this can be very useful if you want a good Mega Evolved Pokémon! As stated before, Shadow Pokémon cannot Mega Evolve, but purified Pokémon can.
  3. Getting the Purification medal. There is a medal you can achieve by purifying Pokémon. However, it is best to purify the weaker Pokémon that you are going to transfer anyway.
    • Check online to see which are the best Shadow Pokémon of every type, as well as those for PvP. Newcomers to the game, especially those used to the main series, may be surprised to find out that some Pokémon are rather powerful in Pokémon Go. Pokémon that surprised me at first were Shadow Toucannon and Shadow Tangrowth.
  4. Bulky PvP Pokémon. I won't get into the specifics of this as I am not as experienced in this regard, but there are some cases where a Pokémon may benefit from having greater defenses in PvP specifically. However, most of the time, having a Shadow that deals more damage is still better.
  5. Trading. Since only purified Pokémon can be traded, it may be useful to purify spare shinies.
  6. Just because! In the end, this is a fun mobile game, and these are your decisions. So if purifying your Pokémon makes you happy, who am I to stop you? Go ahead and make your Pokémon happy again! ❤️

Final Note About Frustration:

I have seen some people ask this, so I would like to clarify. During some events, you will be able to evolve your Pokémon to gain a Legacy Move, such as Hydro Cannon or Blast Burn. If your shadow Pokémon still has Frustration, you will not get this move even if you have a second charged attack slot. You need to use a TM to get rid of Frustration during a Rocket Takeover event, so stock up on those beforehand. You can get TMs regularly from raids and the Go Battle League.

Resources:

Want to find out which Pokémon are the best? Here are some good websites for you to check out!

Dialgadex A useful tier list displaying the effectiveness of every Pokémon in raids. You can filter by type and even see unavailable Pokémon.

Pokémon Go hub Has the same functionality as Dialgadex with a different UI. Though I would caution against their Pokémon-specific analytics. Most are accurate, but others seem outdated (for example, their Corviknight page describes it having access to Drill Peck and Brave Bird, which it does not as of now). Their rankings are all accurate, though, and they provide additional information such as catch rates and Pokédex information.

PvPoke A useful site for PvP specifically. PvP as a whole is a bit more technical, so I would recommend doing some extra research to understand how both it and this site work. For example, you may find that in the general rankings, Shadow Pokémon are ranked as worse, but this is because they fill a specific niche and have a lower general ranking.

Youtube found a way around Brave ad blocking.

I'm getting ads specifically for YouTube Premium and YouTube Music while on Brave now. Specifically at the start of every video (I have yet to encounter one in the middle of a video, but it's possible). I tested this with Firefox + Ublox Origin and did not have any issues, so either Brave does not have the update required to block this, or YouTube is targeting Brave users specifically. Does anyone know more about this?

Edit: turning on and off "ad-blocking only mode" seems to have worked. Must have been a hiccup with the settings or something. I don't fiddle with my computer/browser much, and the only extra filters I have on are the ones disabling YouTube Shorts.

Wattpad removing italics

I've been going through my older chapters to hunt for spelling mistakes and noticed, for the SECOND time, Wattpad has somehow removed all my italics and bolded words. Now I have to read through each line to redo the formatting.

Has anyone experienced this before? This is honestly infuriating!

Siri constantly defaulting to Apple Music

I've been having this problem with Siri lately. I use it a lot to just look up a word on my Mac since I can quickly pull it up with the shortcut. Now, in my experience, Siri has always just told me the definition of any word I give it. But lately, it's been searching for songs on Apple Music that have any connection to the word I'm looking up. For example, if I look up "Derisive," it suddenly plays a song by that name.

I never use Siri to look for songs, so is there a way to revoke Siri's access to Apple Music?

Is my Grammarly just glitchy, or has it been acting up lately?

For the past few months, Grammarly has been declining heavily for me. First, it was the pro suggestions. I don't have Grammarly Pro, but it still highlights what it wants to fix. But it gives me 2 free samples a day...and half the time they don't make sense? Like, even the actual software acknowledges that they don't make sense. If I let it do its changes, it highlights the exact same sentence to revert it back.

Then there's the general spellchecker stuff. It's been trying to paste new words in the middle of existing ones, completely changing the context of a sentence by suggesting new words, and more. It is especially having trouble with punctuation. It keeps telling me to get rid of a single quotation mark, but not the other (I know there are different quotation marks, but I checked and it's not a formatting issue). It's been suggesting I get rid of commas or add them in places that don't make sense.

It just feels weird because I've used Grammarly for years. I've never had problems like these before, much less to this degree. It still works great as a spell checker since it catches random stuff my base spellcheck doesn't, but I've been having to sort through incorrect suggestions that don't seem to go away.

New interaction: quitting a battle counts for the research now.

Previously, a battle would only count for the GBL research if you won or lost. But now, the counter ticks if you quit.

Worst problem I've noticed with the new GBL system...

The time it takes for certain actions seems way too long. The opponent consistently gets an extra fast attack or two compared to normal. This happens when trying to fire a charged attack or switching to a Pokémon. I've even KO'd a Raichu, and it managed to get two Volt Switches before the actual fainting animation played, and those attacks did seemingly do damage.

Edit: It also seems the person who just switched in gets some sort of fast move advantage? Maybe it's a glitch on my end, but every time I send in a Pokémon after one faints, I get a fast move no matter what. I just won a match because my 1 HP skeliderge got an Incinerate off on a low HP Forterress despite Volt Switch being faster.

PSA: Save any cheap Pokémon you find for July 2 for extra XP upon evolution!

July 2 will feature the Pidgey spotlight hour with a 2x evolution XP bonus. If you use a Lucky egg, that's 4,000 XP per evolution.

If you have a Pokémon that's easy to find and you have a lot of candy for, save as many of those as you can (for example, I have WAY too much Scatterbug candy 😂). Note that Pidove, Pidgey, Caterpie, and Weedle are some pretty common Pokémon that only cost 12 candies to evolve once, meaning for 100 candies, you can evolve 8 and get 16,000 XP (32,000 with a lucky egg).

On that note, the spotlight hour will be featuring Pidgey, so if you don't already have a bunch of Pokémon you can evolve, you'll at least catch some. Assuming no other bonuses, catching one Pidgey and transferring it will give you 4 candies. You'll get 6 with a level 3 mega, and 7 with a level 4 mega. With these mega evolutions, you'll be able to evolve 1 Pidgey for every 2 you catch and transfer (also note that evolution grants another candy).

While catching the Pidgey works, if you just want the XP and aren't hunting for a better PvP Pidgey, a shiny, or a 100% for Mega Pidgeot, it might be more efficient to prepare a bunch beforehand so you don't waste too much time trying to catch more.

Egg moves retained slot, not the actual move.

Just wanted to make a PSA. If you had a move previously unlocked for a Pokémon, after the latest balance patch, you may have lost it due to it being moved around. For example, I used to have Fiery Dance on my Delphox, but it has since been made a rare egg move, which I have not unlocked yet, so I don't have access to it anymore.

Also, Buneary lost Triple Axel 😞. There goes my cheap Rayquaza/Eternatus counter lol.

Dynamax Hydreigon: New accessible dark and dragon attacker?

Dynamax Deinio was just revealed for July, and looking at its stats, I think it's going to be very promising. So far, the best dark-type dynamax Pokémon we have is Gigantamax Grimsnarl, and right below that are Single-Strike Urshifu and Gengar (sucker punch). The best Dragon-type Pokémon we have are Eternatus, Latios, and Duraludon. Hydreigon has an attack stat of 256...so how does it compare to the others?

As a Dark-Type:

Hydreigon's stats are rather similar to Urshifu's. HP and Defense differ, but their attack stat is almost identical, with Hydreigon having two more points.

However...I will note that Dark and Ghost often overlap as raid attackers when only considering damage. And Gengar's attack is actually quite a bit higher at 261. So, from a purely offensive standpoint, Gengar is often going to be the better pick unless the opponent is weak to Dark, but not Ghost (not sure if this is possible unless they're Psychic/Normal like Indeedee, or Ghost/Normal like Hisuian Zoroark).

HOWEVER, Hydreigon is a dark type, meaning it heavily resists Psychic-type attacks. And it has Bite as a fast move. So it could potentially be used during the charging phase.

As a Dragon-Type:

The two best dragon types we have are legendries, being Eternatus and Latios, and thus are less accessible. They have attack stats of 278 and 268, respectively. The best, more accessible ones we have are Drampa and Duraludon, both of which aren't that great in terms of attack (Below 239)

Hydreigon isn't as great as Latios, but it's much better than Duraludon, so it's the best accessible one we have so far. And it also outclasses the best fairy-types (Gardevoir and Hatterene with an attack of 237) and Ice-types (Glaceon, 238 atk). However, unlike its role as a Dark-type, it's weak to Dragon-type moves, so you shouldn't use it as a lead.

Is there some sort of crit mechanic or bug in PvP?

I had a k9 mirror match. The opponent threw two Weather Balls as soon as they charged. They spammed them against my Ninetails, but the second one did maybe 80-100% more damage than the first. This was at the beginning of the match, so there weren't any debuff moves in play (and their second move was Energy Ball, so there's no way they used Scorching Sands)

Edit: I also counted their fast moves, and it matched with two weather balls, so they couldn't have used Energy Ball and then Weather Ball. Plus, the animations for both had fire instead of the usual Energy Ball light.

Edit: Solved. The opponent likely undercharged their attack. I didn't think they would do that since Weather Ball does so little damage already.

Apparently, Giovanni won't be spawning in Baloons for the next takeover....

I really hope this changes because I'm stuck at home during the event. SHADOW RESHIRAM is his Pokémon and that's the #1 fire type behind the unreleased Mega Delphox...

VPN keeps turning off?

I've been using the new free VPN, but it sometimes turns off randomly when I check on it. I have it turned off for specific sites, but that doesn't seem to be the issue (for example, I don't have Reddit blocked, but it's still off while I'm on here).

I never touch the VPN settings anymore, so I'm confident I'm not accidentally turning it off. Is this a known issue?

What recipes from the channel do you make regularly?

I've started branching out into making new recipes from the website and cookbook. So far, I've made the Parthian chicken and Tudor strawberry tart multiple times (both are AWESOME), but I'm curious if there's anything people make on the regular.

P.s. for the chicken, I like to add chopped onions to the bottom of the dish if anyone is interested. Adds a bit more depth to the dish, though the flavor is probably different since I don't have some of the spices it calls for and have to substitute.

Edit: Looks like I'm making chicken paprikash 😂

How to block specific ad companies?

I've already blocked the account but that did nothing. This same app has been flooding my feed and the ads are always so unsettling, sometimes with weird AI generated characters and stuff. I don't want to block all ads, just this one. Is it possible?
