Billy West had a ticket for AA11 !?!!

I think everyone knows by now that Seth MacFarlane had a ticket for American Airlines flight 11 on 9/11. But I can’t find any threads discussing the fact that Billy West had one too:

https://www.nickalive.net/2021/09/billy-west-reveals-he-was-nearly-killed.html?m=1

He changed his reservation to an earlier flight so he could perform at a benefit.

As has been pointed out, any claims that anyone was somehow “spared” or “chosen” are actually quite insulting to the victims. Furthermore, this does not in any way detract from the unspeakable horror of that day. But the world is lucky to still have Billy West and Seth MacFarlane in it.

Insurance should cover cosmetic surgery for people who are too ugly to succeed without it

Being ugly is a major disadvantage for employment, relationships, and everything else. For those of us who are ugly enough that it is derailing our lives and careers, this is just as serious an impediment as many other medical conditions. If adjusting our looks is mandatory for society to accept us, insurance should cover it.

Tevin Campbell - Round and Round

This song came out when you couldn’t just Google lyrics. I liked it a lot, but there was one line that vexed me. My best guess was “Sitting by the lit-up home, while everyone else is down the street.”

It is actually “Sitting idle in our boat, while everyone else is down the stream.”

People are going crazy on r/waze after learning it was originally developed by an Israeli company

There are posts in the thread about people dumping their accounts.

Apparently none of these people were bothered by the current owner, Google, even though they essentially spy on you and sell your info. So I guess an evil company is okay but not an Israeli company.

Does anyone else feel like “overexaggerate” sounds weird or even wrong?

Yes, it is true that “overexaggerate” is listed as a word in some dictionaries. But even if it is a word, what does it mean?

See “exaggerate” already means that a statement is excessive. So “overexaggerate” means “excessively excessive.”

Is there an amount of excess that is just right, and then a higher level of excess that is excessive excess? How do you even know where the line is?

“Overexaggerate” just hits my ear wrong, and FWIW, my iPhone is marking it as a spelling error.

Two Truths and a Pumpkin!

It’s the hot new game taking the Internet by storm:

Two Truths and a Pumpkin!

Here are three statements. Two of them are truthful statements. One of them is a pumpkin.

  1. The boiling temperature of water is 212 degrees Fahrenheit.

  2. The capital of Maryland is Annapolis.

  3. 🎃

Now, for the question that has stumped nearly 0.0000000000002% of users:

Can you tell which one is the pumpkin?

Looking for ad: The Greatest Trucks in the Universe

I posted a similar thread on TOMT a while ago but didn’t get any responses.

I remember this ad - I think it was from the 1990s. I always thought it was a cute ad, but now I can’t find any clips or even any other mentions of it.

At the start of the ad, some pickup trucks race onto the screen and the announcer says something like, “Our trucks are the greatest trucks in the universe!!!”

But then there are some aliens with a crazy space-truck, who are deeply offended by this statement. They start firing lasers at the trucks, and the trucks swerve around them.

The word “Correction” flashes across the screen, and the announcer says, “The greatest trucks on earth.” The aliens are pleased and cease the attack.

Am I really the only one who remembers this ad?

What does “Summer in St. Tropez” ad sound like?

Alo Yoga has an ad called “Summer in St. Tropez.” The comments are already filled with people who want to know what the song is, and no one knows - but that’s not exactly what I’m asking.

The part of the ad at 17 seconds has a repeating 5-note pattern. I recognize that pattern as being the same as an older soft rock song I was already trying to identify. The older song sounds much more, um, “twinkly.”

I do not know if the ad song is intentionally based on the older song or if it is a coincidence.

Does anyone know what the older song is? Thank you.

I am really disappointed that Oregon allowed this in the current voters’ pamphlet. Could you imagine if I submitted a statement that said “Everyone who supports the (any other country) is a racist”?
