I love SamSho2019. Its cast us good both base roster and DLC but this is the first time I've ever had to deal with the problem of loving a character who I know won't return. I mainly play Gungsun Li. I think her gameplay is very intersting and the way she words as a fighter who disarms herself is so cool, and I find it more fun than how Wan Fu does it.

I think shes great but I also know that I won't get to play her in whatever er game comes next. Even if the two companies remain on good terms a guest character is only cool the first time. In all of fighting games the only time I can recall a guest character returning in a later entry is Mai in DOA.

I know when Capcom spoke about "Characters as functions" when promoting MVCI it pissed people off but in this moment im understanding it. I would love to see this gameplay come back even if it means having to retrofit it onto a different character. I would prefer Gungsun Li to come back but I'm pessimistic and would rather have it in any capacity than not at all.

I think Fatalities are a fundamental flaw of Mortal Kombay as a franchise. They can only be done at the end of/after a match so they have this inherent feeling of being disconnected from the main gameplay when compared to other cinematic super moves.

I understand that they are meant to be spectacle and can be scene as a reward to the winner, but that necessitates that they are good as a reward which I dont think they are. Eveey fatality I've sent is bloody and gorey but they lack any real impact at all. Everyone gets torn apart and shredded as if they are made of play dough. When characters feel like they have no real weight or connective tissue to their bodies watching them get torn apart lacks impact and payoff.

And because I see them as so detached and underwhelming I just see them as a waste of resources. Scorpion having an animality where he becomes a giant scorpion doesn't mean anything to me because all I think about is how much time they spent modeling that bug and animating the transformation instead of putting that time and money elsewhere.

I dont think they need to be removed outright but how they function jsit feels like something they are shackled to by traditions and id like to see a version of them that actually effects moment to moment gameplay and/or had actual impact and makes it feel like the characters are in pain rather than getting shredded like plastic wrap.

I know there was a fightable ancestor of Mai as a dram match in Samsho 1 or 2. But I think it would be interesting to see Mai or more likely one of her Shiranui ancestors as a playable character in a game.

Especially as we've seen SamSho characters in the KOF style so seeing her as a Samurai Shodown character would be interesting. At least to me

I'm still hopeful (delusional) enough to think we may get a season 3 of FLC for XV. So I wanted to give my thoughts on 4 possible teams. I tried to focus on characters that would need the least new assets made.

If anyone else has theoretical team ideas I'd love to hear them.
