Question about USD account

Hi, I invest in mostly US stocks in my TFSA, but I dont have the USD account.

If I take the $10/mo USD account subscription just before selling those stocks, then sell those stocks and buy other stocks in USD, then cancel the subscription again, will it work? As I dont need the USD account always, I sell and rebuy once or twice every year or so, and dont want to pay for an ongoing subscription

Chequing account never gives a notification

I have all the alerts turned on in CIBC app, and for my credit card I always get notifications, emails, sms right away. But for Chequing account deposit/witbdrawals, I never get a notification ever since I opened the account. Is there any way to enable it, or is this just how it is?

Secondary no-fee chequing and credit card

I already have a chequing account and a zero fee credit card from one of the Big 5. Now I'm looking to grab a second chequing account and a credit card with it, both should be no-fee as I dont spend a lot anyway. I dont have any car so no gas payments, neither do I travel much. Most of my spending is mainly just groceries and Presto recharges, so I'd want cashback on those categories, especially grocery as a priority.

I don't want Wealthsimple chequing as they are not a bank per se, I want a chequing account that still falls under a bank network like how Simplii and Tangerine are. So far, Tangerine seems to be good for getting both, but hopefully I can get some good advice here.

Wealthsimple and Questrade

Right now, I have TFSAa opened with both. If later on, I want to transfer over, let's say, move Questrade's TFSA over to WS, would I be able to do it? Considering I already have a TFSA on WS, how would it work? Would it just merge with my existing TFSA on WS, or create another one?

And how does transferring TFSA work? Does it sell all the stocks then transfer cash, or transfer the shares directly?

Someone else using my roommate's phone number

Hello, today my roommate received this message, although she never created a WS account. Right away she talked to WS support and they confirmed there is an account associated with this number, although the name doesnt match hers. So they assume someone else had this number before and didnt update it.

Despite requesting to remove her number from that account, they kept saying they will take action, but didnt outline what they'd do, and refused to provide follow ups either. They simply gave her a email scamalert@wealthsimple.com and asked to file a complaint there too.

What should she do in this situation?

Fractional share DRIP

Recently opened a TFSA in Questrade. I mainly invest small amounts in US ETFs, with some CAD ETFs sprinkled in.

In Wealthsimple, I could easily reinvest all my dividends(even if its $0.01) into fractional shares. Does Questrade have the same feature of automatically reinvesting tiny dividends back to buy fractional shares? If so, what's the process of enabling it?

Investing in US ETFs from Canada

Hi, I am from Canada. I am a beginner investor, I invest in TFSA on US-based ETFs mostly (as long-term holds). I only invest $100-200/month, so it's a small amount.

Currently, I'm using Wealthsimple. I've also heard good things about Questrade. Thinking whether I should make the switch.

\* Between Wealthsimple and Questrade, which one is more safer and reliable?

\* Since I only invest small amounts, I don't do Norbert's Gambit, as I think it's a bit of a hassle for an amateur and not worth it for the tiny amount I invest. I've heard that the CAD-USD exchange rate on Questrade is better than Wealthsimple, and their charges are less than the 1.5% that WS takes. Is it true? As my investment is low, I want the most bang for my buck.

\* I didn't take WS USD acxount for $10/mo, as I'd rather just invest it. I heard QS gives a free USD account, what's the benefits of it, and would it be useful for me?

All in all, I just want to make the most of my little money and just trying to figure out whether I should stick with WS or switch to QS.

Portfolio advice

Hello! I'm investing for the long-term, only $100-200/month. I like ETFs for the simplicity, but I don't feel right investing in SPUS, HLAL etc considering their top holdings are MSFT, GOOGLE, NVIDIA as they are in BDS list. So I've been researching and looking and here's what I'm trying to start doing from now on:

50% MNZL

30% SPWO

15% WSHR

5% SPSK.

Now I know they still have some BDS companies, but they're more of consumer products rather than the weapons and infrastructure issues that the other ones have. MNZL ofc as the most viable SPUS alternative of the bunch, then SPWO for global exposure, WSHR for CAD exposure, then small amount of SPSK so that it slowly snowballs into dividends.

I dont invest in Gold, as I'd rather buy physical bullions.

Any advises?

Portfolio of those investing from Canada

Hi, I live in Canada, and I invest around $100/mo thru TFSA in Wealthsimple. Curious to know what everyone else's portfolio allocation is like.
