Will this set up work temporarily? Is it safe?

We want to place the generator at the end of our patio. It’s about 18 feet from bedroom windows.

We have a 50ft 15A 120v 12 gauge cord that we can bring into the bedroom window and then bring into our living room. We then have an extension cord with a triple tap at the end. Could we plug in power strips from the triple taps? Is this safe?!?!?

We want to power a couple lamps, a dehumidifier, a fan or two, small electronics like a phone, our router, and possibly TV/playstation.

We will not be plugging in a fridge or AC.

We have a predator 5000 inverter generator. We are in the middle of a 7+ day long outage and getting cords has been difficult so I know the amps we have isn’t ideal. However, I just want to make sure this set up is SAFE temporarily.

(We also got two new carbon monoxide detectors for sleep spaces and the room the cords will come in through the window)

Newbie help!

What kind of extension cord can I use on this generator?

Can I then plug a power strip into the cord?

We are currently going through a multi day outage and already lost the contents of our fridge. Probably just want to plug in fans, small electronics, TV and some lights for now.

Allergens and Family History

I’m getting ready to start my baby on solids and thinking about allergens. Neither my husband or I have any food allergies. Neither do our parents or siblings. However, my nephew is allergic to 4 of the 9 major food allergens.

I know that a family history can increase your risk, but is there any research that talks about the degree of relationship? Does my nephew having food allergies increase my child’s risk?

Help! Supply Issues after Hospitalization

I was hospitalized earlier this week due to a GI infection and had to be on a liquid diet. I pumped at the hospital but felt like my supply was dipping a little, though I know pumping isn’t a super good indicator. However, I also got a clogged duct while there (which has since resolved) and I’m still not able to eat 100% normally.

My baby is about to be 5 months and I really don’t want this to be the end of our journey, but she seems a bit unsatisfied and pulling at the nipple. I have milk in the freezer to supplement if I feel it’s needed, but not more than a couple weeks worth.

Do I have any hope to up my supply again if I can’t get back to my normal diet for another week or so?!

MMR

With all of the news surrounding measles, I wanted to get some clarity about my risks.

I was fully vaccinated as a child, but I work in healthcare (non-clinical) and needed to get tested as company policy when I started a new job 4 years ago. I was negative for measles titters so I needed to get the MMR again. Fast forward 2.5ish years and I was retested as part of a fertility workup. Again, negative so I re-vaccinated. I then got pregnant and was retested AGAIN and AGAIN came back negative. After giving birth this past March, I was revaccinated.

How concerned should I be about measles cases being at its highest in 35 years? Do these constant negative tests mean that I’m not immune? I’m not otherwise immunocompromised.

Most importantly, should I be worried my baby has no maternal antibodies? I was vaccinated less than 6 months before conception, but again, it didn’t “stick”.

Wake windows

I’m trying to get my 19 week old on a good schedule before sleep training. Although I’m kind of doing a loose pick up put down right now.

The last three days, we did 1.5/2/2/2/2.25

Last night my baby slept 9pm-8:30am with two wake ups totaling 1 hour.

She’s on her third nap today but so far we could only manage 1.25/1.75/1.5

Her eyes were literally closing at the end of each window. Are her wake windows too long for her? Are some days just more sleepy than others? Is it more about the average over a given week or should we be keeping her awake every day despite sleep cues?

I’m trying to set her up for a successful sleep train (likely Ferber)

False Starts without Sleep Training

Has anyone had any luck with false starts without sleep training?

My baby is 19 weeks. We just started (two days ago) a new schedule. She is up at 8am and then does 1.5/2/2/2/2.25

Naps are usually 1.5 hours-2, then 40, 30, 30

She goes down at 9pm and will fall asleep pretty easily. Maybe some shushing and gentle butt pats. However, night 1 she woke up after 40 minutes, then did a long stretch. Night two she was up after 40 minutes and then was up every hour for 3 hours until I put her in bed with us (I was exhausted). She then did a very long stretch.

We are not ready to sleep train. Any chance she will grow out of this or adjust to a schedule and stop?

I don’t know how to fix my babies sleep schedule.

My baby is 18 weeks. After a rough night, she woke up at 8am. She was then up for 1 hr 20 minutes before taking a 1 hour nap. Then she was awake for 1 hour 50 minutes and took a 53 minute nap. Next was awake 2 hours and 10 minutes with a 30 minute nap. Finally she was awake an hour and 38 minutes for a 29 minute nap.

She is currently awake. If I put her to sleep for the night after 2 hours, it’ll be 8pm. But that’s not enough total awake time.

If I do another nap, her bed time is really late. I’m ok with that, but then we are stuck in a cycle with late bed time’s. I’m not sure how to fix this. I try to push her windows longer, but she starts scream crying. Is she just not ready for them? Do we just keep going by cues for longer and embrace the later bed time? Or do I do the 8pm bedtime and fix the next day….somehow…

RAP/IBR Payment Counts

I know that RAP payments don't get counted if you later switch to IBR for forgiveness, but do IBR payments count toward RAP if you later switch to RAP?

My IBR is higher than my RAP payments, but I may be able to afford it. I am also PSLF eligible, but I have 8 more years and honestly not sure I will stay public interest that long with my career path, so I am just trying to weigh my options and see what might work best for me.

Where to buy high quality clothing?

I tried to get my husband some limited edition sneakers this morning for Father’s Day, but they sold out in 1 minute. Sad times! So now I’m looking to pivot. My husband always talks about wanting some higher quality clothing. For reference, he’s expressed interest in Filson wool jackets and likes Danner boots. On a day to day basis he wears denim and Nikes or chucks. Currently a lot of his tshirts are just from places like Target but he definitely wants to upgrade. I’m willing to spend money on quality, but have no idea where to look.

15 weeks old and omg is this sleep regression?

That’s it. That’s the post.

My baby was up 6 times last night after giving us stretches of 5-7 hours the prior two weeks.

Supply Regulation

Background: My daughter is 14 weeks old. At the beginning, she had a tongue tie and needed a nipple shield to latch. She also had slow weight gain at the start. We triple fed for about a month or so. I would say that the triple feeding created a bit of an oversupply. I always pumped 17-20 ounces on top of what she ate a day. Her tongue tie is now resolved and she latches just fine. I slowly weaned back from pimping and now she gets one bottle of pumped milk a day and I only pump to replace a feed.

About a week ago, I noticed that my supply seemed to have dipped. I assume this was my supply “regulating.” Previously I was getting about 7 ounces combined when pumping to replace a feed. Now I’m just barely getting 4oz. When we give her a bottle at night, it’s usually about 4.5 oz. The “dip” happened to occur right when she started sleeping longer stretches through the night.

I know that your supply regulates, but I just feel like I’m making SO much less than before and I’m concerned she’s not eating enough now.

She still has a normal amount of wet diapers and at least 1 dirty diaper a day. She’s gaining weight, but I would say maybe a little on the slower side? According to my home scale, she’s probably gaining about .75oz a day instead of 1oz. She’s in the 35th percentile which she’s been at since her 2 month vaccinations.

I’ve tried to do weighted feeds, but it seems like she’s getting closer to 2.5-3oz each feed, which seems low, but it’s also a $40 scale so not crazy reliable. She nurses 6-7 times a day (depending on the day) and then the bottle. In general, she seems satisfied, but she’s also super gassy so it’s hard to tell sometimes if she’s unlatching from gas or because she’s done. Between feeds, she’s generally happy.

Should I be trying to up my supply or consider combo feeding? Her next appointment isn’t for another 3 weeks and I don’t want to be under feeding her in the meantime!

Can someone help me understand my baby?

My baby girl is 14 weeks old. I know that at this point she is way too early to sleep train and by the time she is ready, she may not even need it.

I almost exclusively breastfeed, but my husband gives her a bottle of pumped milk once a night as her last feed.

She used to go down in the bassinet for naps just fine. As of 2-3 weeks ago, she refuses naps unless they’re contact naps or she falls asleep in the car or stroller.

At night, she will take the bassinet but she won’t take it until 10:30 pm or later after a bottle. If we try to put her down at 10? Immediately wide awake. When she does go down, she has started to give us a 5+ hour stretch and will *usually* go right back down after nursing her UNLESS it’s too late 5am+ in which case we will co-sleep with her for the last stretch (as safely as possible!)

I know babies just want to be near you. But I can’t figure out why she will take a bassinet at night but not during the day. I mean, I can KIND of get that, but the nighttime behavior? Refusing the bassinet until 11pmish? I cannot wrap my mind around that. Is she just not ready to move her bedtime up?

She’s at like 1/1.5/1.5/1.5. I’ve tried to stretch a wake window to 2 hours but she loses her mind and just will NOT stay awake.

Overnight stretch

My 13 week old is currently doing her first 4.5+ hour stretch over night and my boobs HURT. I am fine with pumping but I know the second I pull out the pump she’s going to be up demanding to latch.

How do you guys do this?!?!? I’m so tempted to wake her but that feels obviously wrong.

State Farm - Spouse's Vehicle

Did I do this right?

My husband and I had separate car insurance policies, so I decided to add his vehicle to my account and add him as an insured driver.

The car, however, is registered in his name only. It lists me as the Primary. Is this an issue? The account just lists two cars, two drivers with my name on the insurance card for both cars. Is this an issue? Or do I need to contact my agent to have him listed as the Primary on his vehicle? I made the change online so not sure if there were limitations.

Carpal Tunnel? Or something else

I woke up in the middle of the night with the thumb on my right hand tingling/feeling numb at the tip. It’s mostly on the outside of my hand but slightly in toward the palm too. No other fingers are affected. My wrist only hurts in very specific positions and barely at all. If I grab my laptop with one hand, the weight, for example will make my wrist hurt a bit. Not a ton but a bit.

Of note, I have a 12 week old baby.and I’m a new mom. I also started back up at work yesterday with a job that’s at a computer. I’m wondering if I just pinched a nerve or something or if this sounds like CT.

Independent sleep

My 11 week old will NOT sleep independently. She will sleep in the bassinet overnight just fine, but if we leave the room, she wakes up and cries. Transfers well, but within 10 minutes she’s up. The longest we have gotten without being in the room is 33 minutes. Meanwhile, if we put her in there when we are ready to sleep, absolutely no issues. She will also go down just fine in the bassinet in our living room at night too when we are hanging out in there.

Anyone else? I’m hoping we don’t cause issues down the line if we allow her to sleep in our living room bassinet until we are ready for bed ourselves. You can’t form bad habits this early right?! Ahhh. I’m losing my mind! It’s so weird.

Does breastfeeding get easier when they get older?

I am EBF my 11 week old. She’s a bit on the smaller side in the 30-40 percentile range. I breastfed in public for the first time over the weekend and it was a STRUGGLE. I didn’t have a pillow and I thought the nursing cover was awkward. It was so hard to position her correctly and hold her in position. I felt bad at it? Like I was just so uncoordinated and she was getting so frustrated with me. I don’t have excessively large boobs, but I do have 36Ds and feel like I usually have to hold my breast while she’s latched.

Is it easier from a purely logistical perspective to breastfeed once the baby is larger? Like because they can hold themselves up better or because it’s easier to bring them to boob? Or is that a pipe dream? I’m nervous about lasting if I can’t figure out how to breastfeed well when I leave the house.

How long do you let your newborn cry/fuss in bassinet/crib?

For context, I’m not trying to let her cry it out, but trying to figure out how quickly I should go to comfort or see if she will fall back asleep.

I’m in the habit of picking her up at the very first cry, but my husband will give it a minute or two and sometimes she will settle down real quick and fall asleep. It doesn’t seem to bother her but it bothers me haha. I’m trying to find a happy medium or see what others do.
