The right side just seems really... flat?? It's still under construction but I'm not sure I like it so far. Something looks off.
Hello, I’ve been really interested in adopting some millipedes and have been trying to find a good house for them :)
I’m from Australia and was looking into adopting two Red legged rainforest millipedes. The seller i’m looking into buying from does a package that comes with two juveniles, substrate and a 20cm x 20cm x 20cm cube enclosure.
This enclosure seems too small for when they’re fully grown, so i’ve been looking at trying to get something a bit bigger. Would it be best to get the bigger enclosure now? Or would they be fine growing up in that smaller enclosure and then moving when they start to outgrow it?
Also, what’s the best size/ brand/ model of enclosure for two individuals to live comfortably? I’m also open to DIYing an enclosure, so if i was to do that, what does it need?
She’s nearly 7 years old, purebred Golden Retriever. Can feel her ribs pretty easily.
Finally freed up my mesh cube enclosure so i treated Ollie to a new house :) What else should i add to his enclosure? I want something for him to build his cocoon on, any suggestions? He’s in pre moult currently, going into 5th instar.
Also one of his leaves is a bit yucky because he gets angry if i try and take it away
Started playing mandolin for fun as a teenager, i could play the guitar alright and wanted to give mandolin a try. I was self taught and learnt all the basic chords, simple scales and a few little tunes (mostly celtic stuff) I kept playing on and off for a while, my mandolin was a cheapy and wasn’t very nice to play. I bought a new one and enjoyed it a lot more but i never really had the time to get back into it properly. I still remember the chords and some melodies but my playing feels really sloppy now and i’m struggling to get back to where I was. I feel like i need to relearn from scratch as i kinda skipped most of the boring theory stuff as a teenager lol. What’s the best way to get back into mandolin? What should i focus on?
oh and my goals are mostly hobbyist playing, not crazy professional level, but able to play fast in small bands would be my dream.
He was being a lovely little model :) I’ve never managed to get so close before
Wanted to share my olene mendosa caterpillar. He’s a little nightmare. Started life eating my tiny cassia seedling. Refused every host i tried to offer as an alternative. Chose one. Decided he hated it the next day. Wandered off. Went missing a few times. He’s finally accepted banana leaves and he’s feeding happily. If he wasn’t so cute with his little tufts I would hate him. He looks so stupid but i love him so much. Believe he’s in 4th instar so feeding frenzy is starting lol.
I can’t get over how big they’re getting, just realised how awful the camera quality is LOL
Not sure where to post, as it’s hard finding others who keep injured butterflies, but i’m feeling really worried about Lila.
She is a 5 week old cethosia penthesilea (orange lacewing butterfly. Their typical average lifespan in the wild is 7-10 days and she has gone way past that. She emerged with a crumpled wing so i took her in to care for her. On the exact same day my mother found an injured Common crow butterfly at work, and brought her home to me. So Lila got a friend. They would always roost together, find spots to sleep, explore the enclosure, climb and come down to feed. Common Crows typically live a lot longer than Orange Lacewings (11-13 weeks), and lately i’ve seen the effects of old age hitting Lila. Her friend Queenie can still climb, but Lila’s tarsi must be worn down or maybe she’s too weak and she just can’t climb anymore. She needs help with everything now and just sits there sadly. I’m happy taking care of her, but if she can’t even climb and explore, what kind of life is that anymore? I’m even more sad, as i brought them a new buddy named Omelette who’s wings are worse than Lila’s but she’s up roosting with Queenie like Lila used to. And Lila is simply too weak to get up there.
She doesn’t seem to be suffering, but i know she’s on her last few days. Should i let her pass naturally in her enclosure or just euthanise her now?
Hello, i just planted some milkweed seeds (swamp milkweed and swan plant). I live in Australia and it’s going into Winter soon, though our winters here are nothing lol. I wanted to plant them now so they get a natural cold strat and hopefully sprout in the spring. Daytime temps are 21°-26°C and 9°-15° at night on average. What can I expect to happen with my seeds over this time and what are ways to boost germination rate? They’re growing in seedling trays with special seedling potting mix. They have good drainage and a makeshift humidity dome. Are these conditions okay, is there anything else i can do to boost germination rate? Very new to seeds, and have had great success growing cassia brewsterri and snapdragons in the summer/autumn but have never grown anything from scratch in colder months.
I’ve also got oleander, native mulberry and caper seeds planted yesterday.
Coworker found this guy lost at work. Took him with me and managed to find him a new home :) Gonna miss him as the host plant was a bit far from my house, but i’m glad he’s safe and got plenty of food :) Thought his patterns were too pretty not to share.
What’s your favourite caterpillar species?
Learning pixel art and i need some cute little models :)
