Weird sun/moon/cloud interaction in Central NJ yesterday

What is going on here? I took these pictures from a moving car at about 6:30pm. Weather was dry with light cloud cover. This cloud formation appeared - moon is visible in the “hole”. Sun was behind the cloud to the left of the hole, and as we continued to drive, the sun appeared from behind the formation (sun moved to the left), but the formation continued to persist.

I didn't realize until I got home and watched the video that there was actually three snakes, I had only noticed two.
