4th year in a row going but… was truly underwhelmed this year. None of the IPs were stand outs. For example, I LOVE Sinners, but got 0 jump scares throughout the entire house.
I think my main thing was that no houses truly made me feel SCARED this year. The years prior, I was genuinely creeped out (noteworthy houses include Blood Moon (2023), Triplets of Terror (2024), and El Artista (2025)). However, no house this year actually made me feel unsettled.
Curious if anyone else feels similar?

As per usual, this page is swarming with bots. I think we’re getting pretty good at collectively spotting them in the comments, but less so at some of these new posts.
They’ve now been trained to be less generic- they’re giving themselves a PGY-level, a specialty, and the stories they share make sense. However, you still get that uncanny valley feeling reading the cadence of their words. Their paragraph structure screams ChatGPT, so you look at their profile- 11 days old, posting in 30 different communities.
One of the best tells I now see on all these posts is ending with 2-4 questions, asking for opinions to encourage commenting.
For example, on a recent post about an “IM PGY-3” asking how to say “I don’t know” to their juniors: “How do you model uncertainty without making the team feel directionless? Is there wording that has worked well for you, or do you agree that the lookup should happen away from learners?”
I personally don’t know any human being who asks questions with this robotic sentence structure, and thus it screams AI to me. But another clue to it being a bot- real Reddit users will reply with genuine advice, and “OP” will never reply.
Please please please keep doing your due diligence to spot these bots!! Upon checking this one’s profile- 14 day old account, commenting in multiple scattered Reddit pages in 4+ different languages.

This movie was not perfect by any means. But it was unique, fun, gory, and even had perfectly timed comedic relief. I’m usually team Dolby vs. IMAX, but this was the best use of sound I’ve seen in an IMAX presentation in YEARS. They set it up perfectly for a sequel, and I’m very worried we won’t get it if it doesn’t perform at the box office. PLEASE go see this movie, if not for any reason other than feeling the gun shots shake your IMAX seat.

Every 3-4 minutes throughout the movie, you took out your phone- on medium brightness- and sent texts, emails, etc. No interaction you had on your phone took less than 2 minutes, and again, took place with a ridiculous frequency.
As the climax was approaching, I couldn’t take it anymore. “Dude, can you put away your phone? You’ve been on it the whole f*cking movie, it’s so rude”. Thank goodness, the last 25 minutes were untainted by your glaring screen. Thought that would be the end of it, right?
At the end of the movie, you looked back at me, confrontational & angry. You asked “what was that about my phone?”
I responded “you were on your phone the entire time, it was so distracting”.
Your response? “I have a job and I’m working today, so I had to answer emails and talk to clients.
I am dumbfounded, and it blatantly shows on my face. “Maybe you shouldn’t go to a movie if you need to be working on your phone the entire time???”
“Well, obviously it wasn’t that distracting, because you were the only one who said something. You were the only one bothered by it.”
Thankfully, two other moviegoers- one sitting next to me, and one sitting next to you- chimed in that it also bothered them. You then attempted to square up with one of them, though this was curtailed by your friend.
“Well, you didn’t have to be so rude” you say to me, your ego obviously having taken a hit.
“Dude, I let you be on your phone without saying anything the entire first 2 hours of the movie”.
Your final retort? “You didn’t let me do anything, it’s my phone”.
I just… I can’t.

Went to the theater today for my 4th viewing of this perfect film (1st time at the big screen). Spent the last 20 minutes sobbing (as I have each time previously). However, when I left the theater, every other face was dry. Mine was the only one puffy, disgusting, and with f’d up mascara 🤣
Can someone reassure me I’m not the only one crying in public, please? 😭
Lots of seats open this AM for the 6 AM. I got out of the 2 AM screening around 5:15, and out of curiosity, wanted to see what was available- many seats from that point on until now. Screenshot is from 6:01.

Attended “The Wrong Girls” Q&A at Alamo last night. Wasn’t particularly a fan of the film, but the Q&A was awful. Felt like everyone had gotten stoned beforehand (on brand with the plot); the moderator was Dylan’s best friend, whose questions basically amounted to “what was it like making the movie? What was your favorite part?”
Tonight, went to the “The Rivals of Amziah King” at Angelika. The discussion was intelligent, thought-provoking, and actually gave insight into the film’s creation. As the cherry on top, they actually gave us a gift bag too 🤣
I’m no stranger to Q&As; I know their quality can vary wildly. I guess these last 2 being in such close proximity to each other really highlighted the differences.

I don’t believe I failed, but I definitely didn’t do as well as I would have liked. I feel like the questions were either way too easy or way too hard. Lots of low-yield biostats and OMM. Ahhhhh.

Have a seat at the 70 mm IMAX mid-August. However, a friend wanted to see it today- so I “settled” for Dolby. When I tell you that this was one of the BEST cinematic experiences I’ve ever had… I mean it! To be fair, I’m usually a Dolby-head at baseline, though make exceptions for LS. However, the Odyssey was INCREDIBLE, with amazing sounds and amazing colors. I’m a HUGE fan of the butt rumbles, and I’ve never seen a movie utilize them so well! (Closest would be the first Dune). I actually booked another seat for Dolby tomorrow!! HIGHLY recommend seeing it in this format! And tomorrow’s the last day!!
