Storing eggs in heatwave (in UK)

How should one store eggs in a heatwave? Typically it’d be on the counter but with high temperatures and no AC indoors should the eggs go in the fridge?

Yellow jacket wasp

There are yellow jackets in my garage. I took a photo and identified it via chatgpt.

They go inside underneath the garage door to get inside and the nest is within the brick wall.

What can/should I do?

Ebay won’t allow me to post a baby item for sale, why is that?

I tried to post a baby play mat on ebay (UK) but after I went through the whole ordeal of filling out the post I was met with an automated error message that baby items are against their policy. But when I clicked on that policy link there is NO mention of baby items.

Neighbour is being deceitful, do i call it out?

We moved in less than two years ago. Our neighbour — retired, keen gardener who has lived there for over 20 years — asked last summer what we planned to do about a specific tree on our side of the boundary fence. We said we liked it and were keeping it. He suggested we remove it, claiming it "probably self seeded" as if that made it less ours.

Fast forward a year. He messages us again about the same tree, this time claiming concern about its proximity to his drainage run and that it could become a very large tree. When I asked for more information he sent a cropped screenshot of a Google AI overview — not showing what he'd actually searched. The guidance he shared doesn't apply to this species, which is a low growing shrub. The concerns he raised — root damage, structural risk, significant height — relate to a completely different species. Something you'd expect a seasoned gardener to know.

Critically — when I asked him directly if there were any signs of damage or urgent concerns, he confirmed there were none.

He also claimed he'd only just noticed the tree last year. This is a tree that has stood several feet above the fence line for over a decade, visible on Google Maps street historical view. He's been gardening next to and specifically mentioned it to us last summer.

When I asked him directly what he actually wanted from us, he refused to answer. Twice. He then called my questions "endless text messages" and said he needed to hear my views before deciding what he "may or may not" ask. He then pushed hard for an in person meeting.

Worth noting: last year his drainage overflowed onto our property. He took days to tell us. When he did he explained the cause himself — a new brand of thick toilet paper. Nothing to do with tree roots.

I've done my research. I’m also a keen gardener. His concerns don't apply to this species. I believe he wants the tree removed — he suggested it last summer and we declined. This feels like a second attempt with a more elaborate justification built around concerns he's already confirmed don't currently exist.

We have a young baby and limited time for this. He pushed for an in person meeting during an extreme heat wave, I said sure pop by, he treated it like a confirmed appointment. We missed him. He rang the doorbell twice, called twice, then sent a formal message asking if "nothing untoward" had occurred.

I've since sent a friendly text saying we have nothing more to add to the discussion. I haven’t called out his lies or deceit. Have only asked questions.

Is he trying his luck? How would you handle a neighbour like this long term?

Vintage fan brand in the UK?

I’m looking for a brand and model of vintage fans that will work properly in the UK.

Something that works really well and is reliable.

Any suggestions?

Best no plastic fan?

I’m looking for a fan that doesn’t have plastic in its construction and is effective and high voltage.

I can’t find anything new out there. Are there any old/vintage models and brands you’d recommend that can be sourced from the UK?

I did come across the Vornado Silver Swan Alchemy Oscillating Vintage Fan, that looks great but some reviews mention that it had a lot of plastic pieces.

A fan that can work like the Vorando is what im looking for.

What can I expect on last day with VM?

I have given notice for service to end on the last day of the contract which is July 14. The last day of contract is July 14. They've sent me an email stating "We’re sorry to hear you’re leaving us on Tue 14 Jul. As a last hurrah, we want to make sure your disconnection is as smooth as possible".

They do not tell me when exactly they are cutting off service? is it on the 14th? or the next day? what time? not clear?

I'm trying to arrange my new internet provider to start service the day my VM service ends.

Raising baby without plastic and petro chemicals

I’m finding it difficult to raise a new baby in a world filled with plastic and petrochemicals.

Sourcing products that are 100% natural is so hard. I see a lot of green washing or half attempts- for example said product will be organic cotton but the filling or insert is polyester. Or a wooden toy has a toxic finishing oil or paint. Or an “natural cream” and ingredients that are endocrine disrupters.

I spend a great deal of time trying to find these products then I spend more time asking these companies about their products and a lot of times they can’t answer the questions on the materials or processes they use- possibly because they outsource some of it or have external suppliers.

We live in a globalized world and can get anything we want at our finger tips but what’s the point if it’s poisoning us slowly and the people who make it. I don’t just want natural products because it’s safer for baby but also because I think about the impact to the environment and the impact to the people who help make it (that girl picking our non organic fruit will get cancer, or the men working in plastic factories have low sperm counts and get chronic illnesses…).

Anyone else in this boat? What’s challenging for you?

If you switch within 30 days of your contract expiring does VM charge an early termination fee?

My 24 month broadband and tv package is coming to an end. I want to switch. VM has been terrible- the service is dreadful and prices are high. They quoted me a higher price than i’m paying now to renew with them though they have the same package for half the price for new customers.

I spoke to their retention team and they said if i switch within the last 30 days there is no fee- is that true? I’ve been burned by VM before so I don’t trust them.

How to confront MIL bully?

MIL has been a bully from day one. At first husband was too lenient and didn’t confront her. Now 10years later we have a child. Live in a different country and they want to visit AND stay with us. We saw them last at an event for our child which they flew in and stayed elsewhere as my family stayed at our house. She was a bully at that event. Seriously undermined me. Husband did confront her afterwards over the phone but she denied everything and took no responsibility. She’s now performative on calls with us- being overly nice to me and giving compliments. In the past husband has confronted her on other issues, she’ll be performative for a while, then she reverts back.

Now i’m fed up. There is a child involved and it’s put me in a difficult situation. Husband wants his parents involved and wants us to visit his grandmother in his country, but i don’t feel comfortable.

They are coming to stay with us for one night soon. I think it’ll be a good time to confront her in front of everyone.

EDIT: some are suggesting that she can stay in a hotel for the night, how can this be done carefully after the fact we told her she can’t stay with us?

Crystalisation formed on tap of glass dispenser

I have white distilled vinegar in this glass jar, not more than a few months probably, and these white crystals form around the tap. What is that? And why is it happening? What can I do to prevent this build up? And how can i effectively remove it?

I feel as thought i am the only one who is tired of materials and ingredients made out of petrochemicals. I genuinely detest plastics and chemicals. I have a visceral reaction to it.

I am going out of my way to buy things that have ZERO petrochemicals in it but it is so hard.

Anyone else doing this? And what challenges are you facing? How are you making it work for you? What is the one product you’re having the hardest time sourcing?
