I think because of all the discourse surrounding Ralsei right now nobody’s talking about how Ralsei is going to potentially interact with Noelle. I know people are saying conflict is going to happen (i’m sure it will) but this means the chances Ralsei interacts with Noelle is high.
They didn’t interact in Chapter 2 and if you give Ralsei’s Noelle’s tea he says it has a soft and sweet flavor. Also Noelle and Ralsei have multiple lines about each other for people who never interacted.
It’s also interesting that Ralsei has fire magic and Noelle has ice magic.
These are my favorite characters in Deltarune so I’m excited to see this and wonder how it’ll go.
Ralsei x Noelle platonic friends agenda.
This post is gonna be all over the place and bit long. I’ve noticed some themes and word repetitions in the game text that stick out to me and it made me think of a prediction! I’ll bold all of the significant words below.
⬇️⬇️⬇️
I think ultimately Kris and Noelle are going to have a fight with Susie. In both routes Kris and Noelle will be aligned for different reasons. Now because of Ch.5 we know they feel this lack of freedom and a void/trauma surrounding the disappearance of Dess and Asriel leaving. They both are victims of abuse in some way. I also think Kris and Noelle having a crush on Susie isn’t a coincidence because they are parallels.
🗡️In the Kris and Susie Diner scene, Kris is doing something with Susie they’ve been avoiding. Their throat tightens when drinking from there. This memory of Asriel is painful and complicated for Kris. Kris wants to ✨escape ✨and we know this because they are looking up summer college vacations.
❄️ In the romantic lake scene, Noelle expresses wanting to run away from hometown to Susie. She’s being carried by Susie and not touching the lake (opposite to the weird route we’re Kris and Noelle drown in the lake). In the normal scene, when being carried Noelle tells Susie that if she can be like this with her then she doesn’t want to leave anymore. She doesn’t want to ✨escape✨
Kris has a similar text bubble that says “Seeing Susie next to you… you feel like whatever you were, for just right now, it might be ok..."
Both Noelle and Kris view Susie as this escape and comfort! Susie’s choices will have some kind of fated impact. I think Noelle and Kris will want to Escape their situations or attempt to gain Power in the weird route.
The way I interpret Kris’s jealously in Ch.5 is that I think it could be because of their crush on Susie BUT I also think it’s because they want to feel okay and simply being with Susie does that for them. Susie now having a love interest means that comfort will have to be shared. Kris is also probably jealous about the autonomy Noelle and Susie have. They can act on their feelings. Kris likely isn’t allowed to verbalize theirs. (Which is why I think Kris is shown to have multiple implied crushes and be a flirt)
But Susie is just a teen girl. Being someone’s Escape or Comfort entirely too much pressure to put on anyone.
🐉 What’s even more interesting is that Ch. 5 reveals that Susie is also trying to avoid her light world life. She is now living with the Darkners. I’ve seen people complain about this and say she’s engaging in escapism but I don’t think she views this as escaping because she says in Ch.5 “they’re real Kris they have to be” Ralsei is REAL to Susie! I think Susie being in castle town will be another thing that breaks the prophecy. Ralsei wants castletown to be an escape and feels it’s his duty is to serve Lightners. Susie subverts that and refuses to let Ralsei believe he’s only there to serve and be a comfort. I think when Susie encourages Ralsei to change she is messing everything up. Susie is unknowingly breaking the prophecy by pushing Ralsei to be more and develop his being, personality, beliefs, hobbies, presentation etc.
With all of that in mind what do we do when we feel powerless? We want to escape and find comfort. How do we find that? With power because if we have that..we have control.
But Susie’s not searching for power. In fact she’s doing the opposite. She’s learning how to heal for her friends. She’s going to the castle town. She’s showing the darkners that they can have autonomy. She’s going on a date with a girl she canonically admired. Whether shippers like that or not she’s making her own decisions. Her Interconnectedness with everyone will have a ripple effect. She’s rewriting the story.
Unfortunately right now Kris and Noelle are both feeling powerless. With Kris having two potential crushes get together. The only source of comfort for Kris will have to be shared with someone that may bring back traumatic memories. Because we also have to remember despite caring for her, Kris has been distant from Noelle up until the game’s events. Noelle obviously has some family issues and with her father being injured or worse, despite her happy moment with Susie, she’s going through a lot and like I said being your crush’s escape is a lot of pressure for Susie that I don’t think she can fulfill. In the weird route I think it’s safe to say they both.. aren’t doing well. Noelle describes being in a near constant state of dissociation. Kris and Noelle are lacking autonomy because of something! Especially in the weird route!
So in both routes at their core Kris and Noelle are the same characters but the difference is in the weird route they’re actively seeking power.. making things weird.
Deltarune is about the illusion of choice and how we cope with feeling powerless. Susie is the “dragon” the heroes have to overcome. I think Susie is representing the heroes overcoming their pre determined fates. She’s always been this foil to the prophecy. Whether “love finds its way to the girl” means Susie or Noelle or potentially Ralsei.. ima be honest idk :P
It could be either Susie was originally the girl of the prophecy but she unknowingly switched places with Noelle. Or Susie was never in the prophecy to begin with. Maybe Susie is the love or the love is wanting to be an escape and comfort to your friends.. to share your Power.. (maybe that’s 2 cheesy)
Or Susie helping Ralsei develop will fuck up the prophecy and Ralsei won’t follow through and will be unable to betray Susie. Forcing us to fight both of them. I really doubt Ralsei will join Susie but it would make sense since in CH.5 Ralsei is now interrupting like Susie and skipping spikes to follow Susie!
I think despite their feelings for Susie, Noelle and Kris will be aligned in both routes by trying to escape their respective traumas or feelings of powerlessness. Another line that makes me think this is when you write Noelle and Kris’s name in the ballot Noelle drops some lore and says
“I’ll put those names down, too..I still think they deserve to win”
And if you believe the theory that Dess and Asriel used to be apart of the prophecy and the added fact that they’re both siblings makes the parallels more significant to me.
So I think Susie is going to be the one to make them face things they’ve been avoiding. I’ve seen people speculate on how messy it’ll get and idk :P
This is just a post about words and themes that have stuck out to me in the games text!
Idk if we as the soul will have to fight Susie or it’ll be reverse? and we have to fight Kris and Noelle?
Regardless I just want the best for these kids.
This post is about Suselle and won’t have any spoilers for CH. 5 other than the obvious.. but I’ll still tag it as a spoiler! I wanted to push back on some arguments I see against Suselle after it becoming canon! Also most regular fans seem supportive about the whole thing but of course fans of certain ships did not have a good day and that’s okay! I think it leaves room to see a different perspective and I wanna share mine :D
1. “Noelle hasn’t done anything for Susie”
This argument doesn’t make sense. Noelle has done things for Susie: Susie literally mentions how Noelle’s kindness is why she never bullied her, and Noelle stands up to Queen for her in Chapter 2. She admires Susie, she’s nervous around Susie because she likes her despite everyone being scared of her. But more importantly: Affection isn’t a reward system. Relationships aren’t merit badges. You don’t “earn” a person by doing nice things for them or saving them. Toby Fox isn’t writing a knight wins the princess type story and Deltarune is literally a story about Kris wanting their own agency yet some people get upset when Susie has autonomy and chooses to explore her feelings with another character or are just blatantly ignoring her canon feelings about Noelle.
2. “They barely know each other” / “It’s rushed”
They’ve interacted enough that there are entire YouTube compilations of their moments. Someone tried to say the Dark World conversations “don’t count,” but they absolutely do on Susie’s end because she knows the Dark World is real. Those interactions shape how she interacts with Noelle afterwards. And even outside that: They’re teens. Having a crush on someone you’ve known of is normal, that’s how many school relationships start. Noelle has known about Susie since before the game. Susie clearly paid attention to Noelle too. They develop between Chapters 2 and 4, and pretending that didn’t happen is just ignoring the text. To add I think people paint out Susie as an oblivious character when she is actually really observant and empathetic. Susie is able to sense when Kris or Ralsei are going through something without them saying anything. It’s not far fetched to assume she realized Noelle’s obvious feelings before the festival likely between Chapter 2 and 4 and with that information she ultimately decided to act on her feelings.
Also If their exact level of flirting happened between an another ship, people would call it undeniable proof and great chemistry!
3. “Yuri slop”
This is just cope, and it’s weird to say about two teen girls. Not joking I saw this comment “forced lesbian ship with less chemistry than a Yuri hentai,” which is… insane. These are minors, even if they’re pixels. A lot of these comments have lesbophobic undertones, and the “cuckelle” nickname was gross from the start and even grosser now. I don’t think Toby Fox liking Yuri makes it bad writing just because it’s not your favorite ship. This also isn’t a Alphys x Undyne repetition as both pairings have entirely different personalities even if they look like the same butch x nerd trope.
4. “Krusie/Kriselle makes more sense for the prophecy/story”
This is pure speculation, head canon and theory territory. You can twist the prophecy into a hundred different theories and it would work. At one point I was on board with Transfem Ralsei and Ralsei being the girl of the prophecy and Susie not being apart of the prophecy. Anything can happen with this story.
5. “Noelle treats Kris badly”
Noelle and Kris have a distant relationship in Chapter 1, but she still offers her help. What people are actually referring to is Noelle having “tunnel vision” around Susie, which is normal teen crush behavior. God forbid a girl not be perfect? She tells Kris she likes Susie. Kris doesn’t express their feelings of feeling uncomfortable or feeling like a third wheel (or can’t). That’s not Noelle’s fault. An assumption (not fact) I have is If Kris is tagging along with Susie, Noelle probably assumes Kris is being a wing‑they‑them. Regardless of my assumption. None of this is a reason to hate Noelle. She’s a teen girl with a crush. Of course she hyperfixates on Susie when she’s in the room. It makes sense for her to want alone time with her crush without Kris. If Noelle was perfect I’m sure people would have complaints about that too.
6. “Susie didn’t seem to like Noelle in that way”
This is either cope or willful blindness.
Susie was literally in a Ken playing guitar for Barbie position with Noelle, with a blushing sprite. She compliment Noelle’s goth look. She calls Noelle top shelf. Gets embarrassed about her tail when Noelle mentions it. Literally mentions Noelle constantly when she’s not there. Most scenes with just the two of them has awkward teen flirting. Again If this were someone else’s favorite ship, they’d be screaming canon confirmation! Susie’s affection is obvious and people just don’t want to see it because it contradicts their preferred ship. I don’t know what Tobias fox could have done to make Susie’s interest more obvious? Like I think Ch.5 was about shoving it in our face so people could stop denying it.
Regardless everyone wants Susie. What a chad.
The only controversy I’ve seen her in was about her cookies being expensive but anything else is blown out of proportion from men who hate her for being a famous twitch streamer 😭
Does anyone else notice this pattern in online fandom spaces, around lesbian ships?
It feels like almost every fandom has a loud minority that reacts negatively to lesbian pairings for no real reason. One of the earliest examples I remember is Legend of Korra. At least with that one I can understand the writing critique but that show has more issues than a lesbian relationship that wasn’t allowed on a kids program in 2014 until the last minute..
still anytime time there’s a lesbian ship, there’s always some group being weird, dismissive, or outright hostile about it.
A recent example that made me think about this again was in one of the newest Absolute Wonder Woman comics. Diana has a flirty moment with Zatanna and of course the comments had a few people (probably never read the comic) acting strange about it, even after being reminded that Wonder Woman has been canonically attracted to women for decades.
Same thing in the Deltarune fandom. There’s a canonical lesbian ship, and somehow there’s still a small but vocal group that hates on it, despite the fact that Toby Fox’s previous game also had a lesbian couple.
I could list more examples, like how straight women reacted to Bridgeton and more but yeah. It feels very odd and sometimes I don’t think a creator can ever write a lesbian or gay couple perfectly cause a group of people will always hate it. While a straight couple can just look at each other and everyone’s all for it.
Her name is Thalia. She’s a wild magic sorcerer who worships Tymora (goddess of luck) I’d like to think she’s praying for good luck before a wild magic surge so it’s in her favor lol
This also works since in the lore Tymora is a prankster goddess.
I’m not sure if I want her with Gale or Astarion since I’m trying to not romance Shadowheart in every playthrough
