Does anyone else think too many Fuji recipes are way too yellow?

Like a lot of you I got tired of recipes that look too yellow. I just put out the 11th videos in my series on YouTube where I review recipes, share examples and talk about how to use each one to the best of its ability and this one is all focused on recipes that don't look overly warm or yellow!

For each video I make these recipe cards to mimic film stock boxes and I think you'll all enjoy them! You can find an album of them below. Feel free to share them and save them. I've made over 35 in total and plan on making more in the future.

Why Is My Luna Ultra’s 3× Lens So Soft?

I’m curious if anyone else has run into this or if it’s just my unit.

Over the last couple of firmware updates, I’ve started noticing that the dedicated 3× telephoto lens on my Luna Ultra is producing much softer results than I remember when I first got the camera. Initially I thought it was something I was doing wrong, so I’ve spent the last few days trying to narrow down exactly what’s happening.

The biggest thing I’ve found is that the issue seems to be tied to shutter speed. I primarily shoot in I-Log, and when I use ND filters to keep my shutter speed around the 180° shutter rule (for example, 1/50 at 24 fps or 1/120 at 60 fps), the telephoto footage often looks much softer than I’d expect. If I remove the ND filter and let the camera raise the shutter speed well above the 180° rule, the footage becomes noticeably sharper.

I’ve also noticed what seems to be inconsistent focus performance at times, where the telephoto doesn’t always seem to lock onto subjects as reliably as it used to. The softness also appears in photos, although it’s most noticeable in video.

To rule things out, I’ve tested with both official Insta360 ND filters and third-party Telesin ND filters, cleaned both the lens and filters before every test, compared Auto ISO and fully manual exposure, tested both photo and video modes, and shot both static scenes and moving subjects over multiple days. The behavior has been very consistent.

The confusing part is that I don’t remember seeing any of these issues when I first got the camera. It seems like they’ve developed over time, and I’ve noticed them across the last two firmware updates. I’m not saying the firmware caused it—just that that’s when I first started noticing the behavior.

I’ve already reached out to Insta360, and they’re having their R&D team take a look, but I wanted to see if any other Luna Ultra owners have experienced something similar.

I’ve uploaded some sample screenshots and video clips here if anyone wants to take a look:

Has anyone else noticed this with their Luna Ultra? Specifically, does your 3× telephoto stay sharp when shooting at normal 180° shutter speeds, or have you found you need to use much faster shutter speeds to get consistently sharp footage?

I’d really appreciate hearing from other Luna Ultra owners to help figure out whether this is expected behavior or if my particular camera may have an issue. Thanks!

Why buy the Pentax 17 over a cheaper half-frame camera like the H35

I don’t shoot a ton of film, but I really liked the simple, low-pressure experience of using a cheap half-frame camera. The problem was that I wanted a sharper lens, better build quality, a little more control, and still wanted the benefit of getting around 72 shots from a roll.
That’s what led me to the Pentax 17.

I put together a first-impressions video covering why I chose it, what zone focusing has been like, the viewfinder, handling, mode dial, and whether it actually gives me that same carefree shooting experience without as many compromises.

Shot my 3rd and 4th roll on the 17 at a wedding!

Took my 17 to my cousins wedding this past weekend. It was the perfect camera for it. Let me stay in the moment where if I was shooting digital I'd be over thinking setting and making sure every shot was perfect. Shot with Fujifilm 400.

I’ve been using the Luna Ultra since launch. These are the accessories I’ve gotten the most use out of!

I’ve been using the Luna Ultra since it launched, and it’s quickly become one of my favorite cameras to carry around. Over the past few months I’ve tried quite a few accessories, but these are the ones that have genuinely become part of my setup.

I put together a quick video talking about why I like each one, but I’d also love to hear what everyone else has been using. Are there any accessories you’ve found that are worth picking up?

Couldn't find a strap I liked for the Pentax 17 so I made my own!

All in it was less than $50 and took about and 2 Couldn't find a strap I liked for the Pentax 17 so I made my own! Took around 2 hours to make. Not the best looking knots but I think it turned out great and I have plenty of material to experiment with other versions!

Some of my favorite shots from my first roll on the Pentax 17 shot Fujifilm 400!

I have a lot to learn with this camera, mainly nailing zone focus. Excited for the challenge! Any tips and trick for zone focusing or the camera in general would be great! I did have to lower the black point in a lot of these. Not sure if it was due to exposure on my end or the scans.

I got an early hands-on look at the Xtra Muse 2 Pro, and I’m not sure it feels ready yet

I went to a TikTok Shop event in NYC where Xtra had the Muse 2 Pro on display, so I finally got a chance to see the camera in person.

It was only a prototype, so I’m trying not to judge it like a final product, but I left with mixed feelings. My time using the Luna Ultra has already proven to me that the second lens on these pocket gimbal camera are super fun, so that part of the Muse 2 Pro is still really exciting. It also felt similar in size to the Luna Ultra, and the actual camera housing felt smaller in person than it looks online.

That said, the overall build, software, battery situation, and general rollout made me wonder if this thing is launching too soon. The rep there said early August which I'm not sure it feels ready enough to launch so soon. More details on that in the video linked.

Curious what other people think. Are you excited for this camera, or does the rollout feel a little rushed?

Update: I finally got the Luna Ultra activated and posted first impressions

Quick recap for anyone who missed the chaos: B&H accidentally listed the Luna Ultra before it was officially released, I bought one, picked it up in-store, and somehow ended up with a retail unit before most people could even talk about it.
The only problem was that the app hadn’t been updated yet, so the camera couldn’t be activated and was basically unusable for the first day.
I was able to activate it Tuesday night and finally start testing it.

Since then, I’ve spent the last few days shooting as much real-world footage as I could, including walking tests, zoom tests, internal audio, I-Log, tracking, the detachable screen, low-light-ish situations, and some product-style B-roll.
I put together a first impressions video with everything I’ve learned so far. It’s still not a full review yet, but it should give a much better idea of what this camera is actually like outside of the launch marketing.

A couple quick takeaways so far:

The detachable screen is genuinely useful.

The zoom lens makes this feel very different from
a Pocket 3.

The camera has a ton of potential, but there are still some quirks I want to test more.

I bought this unit myself from B&H, so this is not sponsored.

Happy to answer questions if anyone wants me to test anything specific for the full review.
