What are your favorite character designs in Magic? - Doesn’t have to just be on creature cards or planeswalkers.

A few of mine.

What’s a Plane that doesn’t get enough credit for the quality of its world building? Out of all the Planes - Not just the ones below.

u/Separate-Flan-2875 — 11 days ago

If they were to put out another cycle of “Soul of (insert plans)” - what would you like to see and what colors would they be?

My picks:

Soul of Eldraine - Green

Soul of Avishkar - White

Soul of Amonkhet - Black

Soul of Tarkir - Red

Soul of Ixalan - Blue

Couldn’t think of another fitting one for colorless

Brainstorming - Sylvan Spirits

In my homebrew setting, a creature that is encountered sometimes are these small (2ft - 3ft tall) little sylvan spirits/plant elemental type creatures.

Each one is different and reflects the types of flora etc from the environment in which it lives. i:e ones encountered in a forest are going to look different from the ones encountered in a desert etc as well as have a minor trait that reflects the characteristics of the local flora. Nothing too major just something to distinguish it from the others.

For example - The desert/wasteland sylvan spirits are extra tough in order to reflect the hardiness of the plants that survive in its more harsh environment. The trait that reflects this is that they go from a AC 13 to a AC 16.

The swamp spirit has a chance to inflict poison damage with its base attacks.

From there Im looking for ideas as to what traits to give the other environment spirits.

The environments left are:

  • Cave/Mountain -

  • City/Sewer -

  • Forest/Field -

  • Coastline/Lagoon -

Do you think future Ixalan sets will incorporate the stuff - factions, characters, gods - that were introduced in Lost Caverns even if it’s not set in the inner core?

We already know Aclazotz escaped.

We know the Mycotyrant ultimately wants to go to the surface.

We know the Malamet (the Jaguar cat people) also have plans to go as well.

If Black Library were to properly get back into producing WarhammerFantasy/The Old World books - This is the kind of stuff I would like to see

Time of Legends: Age of the Three Emperors (Trilogy) series covering specifically the time period between 1359and 1375 when there were three rival claimants to the Empire. Each book would focus on one claimant as the main character and attempt to present the whole affair from their perspective allowing the readers to come to their own conclusions about who should/should not have been sole Emperor. Placeholder titles:

The Stirland Emperor story by Dan Abnett

The Nordland Emperor story by CL Werner

The Talabecland Empress story by Chris Wraight

Time of Legends: The Great Maw by Josh Reynolds. One off story about the rise of the Ogre Kingdoms, the wars with Cathay and the opening of the Great Maw. I’m aware Josh Reynolds no longer writes for Black Library, but as none of this is going to happen anyway - in my scenario - he comes back.

Ogre Mercenaries by Mike Brooks (Trilogy) Series focusing on an eccentric Ogre mercenary company as they roam the Old World fighting and feasting. **Book 1** Empire (Client) vs Empire. **Book 2** Kislev (Client) vs Skaven. **Book 3** Marienburg (Client) vs Norsca.

Children of the Dragon by Noah Van Nguyen (Trilogy) Series focusing on the affairs of the Dragon offspring of the Celestial Dragon Emperor of Cathay.

Dawi Zharr: Daemonfire by CL Werner. One off story about the Chaos Dwarves.

A thief centric book by Robert Earl. There are plenty of books about roguish characters in the Warhammer universe but few are about a proper thief. Criminal underworlds. Heists etc etc.

3rd Archaon novel by Rob Sanders

Warhammer Heroes: Soft revival/continuation of this series:

Settra the Imperishable by Josh Reynolds

Vilitch the Curseling by CL Werner

Lokhir Fellheart by Dan Abnett

Belegar Ironhammer by David Guymer

Greasus Goldtooth by Graham McNeill

Grom the Paunch by Mike Brooks

Balthazar Gelt by Chris Wraight

Malagor the Dark Omen by Robert Earl

Open author books:

Crossover novel featuring Gotrek and Felix and the Vermintide Crew

Gotrek and Felix: Knight Slayer

Gotrek and Felix: Ogre Slayer

A Warhammer Fantasy book focused on a Jade and Amber wizard who have to team up to protect a forest from a Beastmen Warherd.

Adventure series that follows a character (or group of characters) that are initially taken as slaves by the Dark Elves out on the open ocean but before the Dark Elves can return to Naggaroth, they are attacked in turn by Chaos pirates. Managing to slip away during the battle, our characters embark on a long journey to return to their homeland via Lustria, Araby and Albion

Novelizations trilogy of the Tamurkhan - The Throne of Chaos story.

Novelization of the Storm of Magic: Shadows over Albion supplement

Orc centric book set deep in the badlands.

Obscure Chapter: the Iron knights

The Iron Knights

‘First you turn your back on the Emperor, then you raise arms against the sons of Dorn. Know this; you shall not live out this day to make a third mistake.’ - Captain Abrax, Iron Knights 4th Company

“The Iron Knights wage war in the proud tradition of Rogal Dorn. One of the twelve Space Marine Chapters that attend the centennial Feast of Blades, they are the only Chapter to have won the contest on two consecutive occasions. Brycantia, the home world of the Iron Knights Chapter, is a planet of belching manufactorums, fortress walls and great bastions that pierce the skies. Every inch of the planet’s surface is sheathed in metal or hewn stone. Much of the populace toil in steam-choked foundries under the lash of overseers, and only the strongest survive. By their efforts are the Iron Knights continually supplied with a steady stream of weapons, ammunition and recruits. The Iron Knights share the harsh demeanour of their home world’s populace, knowing that hardship and sacrifice are necessary if the Chapter is to continue to win victory in the Emperor’s wars.” - Codex Space Marines 6th Ed

Obscure Chapter: The Subjugators

The Subjugators

"Brothers Garrido and Ayolas of the Subjugators stood in silence at the edge of the central table. Their armour showed signs of the intense siege, rent with deep gouges and bearing patches of flat grey ceramite where the bright green lacquer had been scorched bare. The jet fist of Dorn stood unbowed upon their pauldrons. They had made planetfall numbering ten battle-brothers, a force capable of turning the tide of any engagement. Now they stood at six. Garrido had arrived bare-headed, displaying the blunt, oversized features that came with ascension to the Space Marines, and cold eyes that offered nothing in the way of mercy or rest."- Hunting Ground by Ian St Martin

________________________________________________________________________________________________________

“The Subjugators are an Imperial Fists Successor Chapter thought to belong to the Twenty-third or Twenty-fourth Founding. The Chapter is based on the world of Xenax in Solar Segmentum, and has the honour of defending the eastern marches, guarding against enemy invasion towards Holy Terra. In addition, the Chapter has significant obligations with regards to the defence of the Cadian Gate, and so most of its duties are split between operations in these two regions and it is rarely encountered further afield.

In temperament, the Battle-Brothers of the Subjugators are known to be unrelenting in their prosecution of the enemies of Mankind, always attacking with overwhelming force and eschewing many of the more subtle arts of war.

Their methods are uncompromising, often resulting in not only the destruction of enemy forces but the total devastation of all resources and assets, ensuring that he may never return to plague the Imperium again. When called upon to deliver worlds captured by the enemy, the Subjugators have often taken such extreme methods that nothing of the worlds themselves remains to be liberated, and as such, even the most desperate of Imperial Commanders would hesitate to request their aid against an invader. On several occasions, the Subjugators have ousted an occupying force only to purge the formerly oppressed population, leaving little behind them to rebuild.

The Subjugators follow the traditions of the Imperial Fists in many regards, especially in the veneration of Rogal Dorn, but in other ways they share a lot in common with the Black Templars, They exhibit a similar zeal to hunt down and destroy utterly all potential threats to the Imperium, although their prescribed duties in Segmentums Solar and Obscurus preclude them from undertaking the full-scale crusades pursued by the Black Templars.

Despite their duties in the galactic west and northwest, the Subjugators still contribute to larger Space Marine forces committed elsewhere in the galaxy. With the Chapter's efforts focused on its main duties, it is only able to contribute small forces to larger operations, but its command council regards doing so as a matter of honour.“ - Deathwatch: Rites of Battle

What are your favorite tips/tricks/ideas that you have to enhance the thematic side of playing Salamanders on the tabletop?

It can be hard sometimes to feel like you're capturing the core fantasy of playing the Salamanders (or any non-big 5 chapter) these days - What ideas outside of the rules do you have to help enhance this aspect of the game?

Can be anything.

From themed objective markers.

Themed terrain.

Taking modeling to the next level with upgrade sprues.

All thematic units - All the time - No matter what.

Etc etc

u/Separate-Flan-2875 — 2 months ago

If GW were to package this together as its own “Salamanders starter” - would you be pleased? And what do you think the price would be?
