Saw a post about partner stealing meds that was deleted. Wanted to continue conversation because I had some questions.

So I saw someone asking about reporting a partner who was stealing expired non opioid meds and needles. I personally haven’t seen it done and probably would turn a blind eye on the meds depending on circumstance, but the needles seem problematic, right? Is it really as common as people said it was in the comments?
To be clear I am not turning my partner in if I catch them doing this but would probably ask them why or tell them to do it when I am not there so I can plead ignorance.

Memorial for the best boy, our cat Vader

Our cat Vader passed away unexpectedly while we were away on vacation and we were unable to get back in time. I feel guilty but I am so glad we had the world’s best pet sitter who went above and beyond to keep us informed and to comfort him in his final day. We are all in shock and I am also worried for his bonded friend, Han. Vader was a medium hair black cat who loved to sleep on my feet and would meow endlessly if he wanted cuddles.

How can the death of a cat in a bonded pair effect the living cat?

My cat Vader passed away unexpectedly at age 6 a few days ago. We have been devastated, but I am worried about our other cat Han. They were best buds and Vader would constantly groom Han. Han would constantly push his head into Vader until Vader would groom Han’s head. This is the second time Han has lost a bonded friend. The first was Obi 6 years ago and Han was very lethargic for a while until we got Vader. I am just worried and want to know if there is any science/health advice I should know.
I should note we have another cat, Sky, but while she gets along with and plays with Han and Vader she is very much an independent cat.

I feel like I can’t show emotion over my cats death because he was “just an animal”.

I love Vader so much and now he is gone and I feel like crying and sleeping but people seem to never understand the loss of a pet and think it’s silly or something

IFT BLS, do you sit next to your pt or behind them in the captain’s chair, why?

So I always sit next to my pt on the bench and make discussion if the pt wants, but a few of my partners choose to sit in the captain’s chair and not engage with the pt. Was wondering what the general consensus was.

After my first few weeks, I actually like IFT.

So I am older than most people are when they get into EMS (30). I just got my EMT-B and I was dreading going into an IFT job because of some of the things I have heard and read. That being said while it has its issues I am loving my job. Maybe it’s because I have had so many shitty jobs in my life so far but I truly look forward to going to work for the first time in my life. I feel like I am helping some of the forgotten people in our society and I have already felt as though I am making a positive impact in their lives. I also work at a rural EMS station so I have some 911 calls to compare it to and while those calls are also great experience I may stick with IFT after I get my paramedic in the fall.

I HATE stickers that say “Drive Safe or I Get to See You Naked” or anything along those lines.

I am newer to EMS and so for the past 2 years my algorithm shows me EMS related content a lot. Sometimes news stories about EMS workers SA patients come up and it really pisses me off when I see those stories. You are entrusted with someone in the back of your ambulance when they are having a bad day already and you are going to do something like that?? So going off of that I understand sometimes you have to use trauma shears but to have a sticker that says “I get to see you naked” is beyond repulsive and I would never want to work with someone who had something like that displayed anywhere. Sorry for my rant.

Does duty to act apply to IFT?

So I just started working IFT in Wisconsin and I asked my FTO about the legality surrounding if we witnessed a car accident on the highway if we are legally required to stop (if we don’t have a pt of course). They said they would stop, render aid, and call 911, but they were unsure if they were legally obligated to.

Clarification: I myself would stop to render aid, the reason I ask this question is I have worked at for profit companies before (granted they weren’t medical related). I could see a higher up trying to get someone in trouble for stopping because it hurts the bottom line. I wanted to know if there was a law that would cover me if that did happen.

Just went back into the work force after 4 1/2 years and feel like a bad parent.

So I have been a stay at home dad for almost 5 years. Monday was officially my first day working again. My son (4 1/2) started summer camp full time and loves it, but I am working 12 hour days and I drop him off at camp and my wife picks him up and by the time I get home he is already asleep in bed. I miss him so much. He told me yesterday morning that he is glad I am an “ambulance guy” (I am an EMT) but he misses me. Sorry this is kinda rambly just getting it off my chest.

Is it ok to take apart and put back together track every time you use it?

So I am super new to this and couldn’t find a straight answer when googling. I got my son the Thomas Passenger Set. Ready-to-run electric 0-gauge train set. We have no permanent place for it so it ok to take the track apart and put it away every time we are done playing with it or will it wear out the connections?

Got a volunteer position and it was suggested I might want to get emergency lights for my personal vehicle.

So I can be anywhere in town when I get an alert so it makes since but not sure where to even start.
Does anyone have experience with this? Where do I even find emergency lights? How do I install them?

Does anyone have experience with an accelerated Paramedic course?

So I was supposed to start a normal paced paramedic course that would take 4 semesters, but due to some misplaced paperwork (by the school not me). I was unable to get into that class and now the only option is an accelerated course that takes 2 semesters (5days a week 8hours a day). I would also have to work one 8 hour shift a week ift for my job to cover my tuition(they will only cover if I am working for them while in school plus 2 years after I’m done with school) Anyone have experience with this?
Clarification: The normal and accelerated class both start fall semester there is another normal pace class starting spring semester but it is 2 hours from me. The next normal pace class near me would be Fall semester 2027

Can you be held liable or get in trouble legally if off duty you say someone seems ok after a trauma, but they turn out not to be?

This is all hypothetical, I saw a post about someone saying at a neighborhood bbq a 7-10 yo was climbing a tree and fell about 20ft. One of the other neighbors was an EMT and checked the kid out and said they seemed fine. If the parents of the kid didn’t take their child to the ER because the EMT neighbor said the kid looked fine, but there was an underlying injury missed, could that EMT get in trouble legally.
I would like to say that if I was in that situation and didn’t find anything I would still recommend to go to the hospital because of how far the kid fell.

What are your thoughts on this EKG?

This was a 4-lead done on a 4yo male.

Context: I got hired at a new EMS agency and had to bring my son along to do some check offs and another EMT was playing with him while I was working and to entertain him did a 4 lead on him (which my son was excited to do) and then saw it was irregular and printed it to show me.
